IPL 2026: R Ashwin reveals his RCB playing XI, Padikal, Iyer left out
Royal Challengers Bangalore (PTI Photo/Shailendra Bhojak)

Ravichandran Ashwin There has been strong early support for Royal Challengers Bangalore’s title defence, insisting the franchise has assembled a squad capable of adding another team. IPL crown in the next few seasons. Having ended their 17-year title drought in 2025, RCB are entering IPL 2026 with the weight of expectations and the pressure that comes with being the defending champions.RCB only retained in 2025 mega auction Virat KohliRajat Patidar, and Yash Dayal before rebuilding their roster. The overhaul included the addition of key players like Phil Salt, Jitesh Sharma, Josh Hazlewood, Tim David and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, giving the team a more balanced composition that led to the franchise’s long-awaited first IPL trophy.

Title winning depth in RCB team

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin praised the balance and depth of the team, and said it is no longer dependent on just one or two stars. “RCB can add another title in the next two years with this team. It is not easy to win the IPL, but they have the building blocks, they have the replacements as they go,” he said.Ashwin highlighted how RCB have overcome past shortcomings in their combination. “The way they have addressed the shortcomings in the combination. It’s a good package to be in the top two,” he said. For years, RCB has been criticized for relying too much on star power. The post-auction reconstruction has changed that perception. Batting is now more flexible, pace resources are stronger, and each player has a clear role in the team.

Foreign strength and Hazlewood’s absence

Ashwin described RCB’s overseas contingent as one of the best in the tournament. He said, “In Phil Salt, Jacob Bethel, Tim David and Romario Shepherd, this is probably the best four foreign players, and it is one of the best in the tournament.”Despite Josh Hazlewood’s availability being uncertain for the start of IPL 2026 due to his injury, Ashwin believes it could work in RCB’s favour. He said, “Honestly, it is a blessing in disguise for RCB. If they do not have Hazlewood and they are worried about Salt’s form, he can play both Salt and Bethel. And when Hazlewood comes back, you will have a clear picture about his form and based on that you can make changes.”Ashwin also noted the flexibility of the bowling attack. “If the bowling is leaking too much, they can drop Mangesh Yadav and bring in Jacob Duffy or Hazlewood if fit. They have a team that can conquer home conditions and handle the ups and downs with bat and ball,” he said.

Ahwin’s RCB probable XI (considering Hazlewood unavailable):

Virat Kohli – Phil Salt – Jacob Bethel – Rajat Patidar – Jitesh Sharma – Tim David – Romario Shepherd – Krunal Pandya – Bhuvneshwar Kumar – Mangesh Yadav – Yash Dayal – Suyyash Sharma (Impact Sub)With this mix of experience and overseas firepower, Ashwin believes that RCB are well-equipped to defend their title and be at the forefront of IPL 2026.

'Moral cowardice': Congress criticizes Center as Middle East war enters third week, asks 4 questions to PM Modi

New Delhi: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Saturday slammed the Center and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of ‘moral cowardice and political betrayal’ as the US-Israel conflict with Iran entered its third week.In a post on X, Ramesh highlighted that it has been more than three weeks since the air strikes on Iran began and 23 days since the Prime Minister’s visit to Israel. He alleged that the government is silent and has failed to take any concrete diplomatic initiative to reduce tensions.“It has been exactly 21 days or three weeks since the US and Israeli air strikes on Iran began. It has also been 23 days since the Prime Minister returned from his much-publicized visit to Israel. Has the Modi government condemned or condoned the massive air strikes on Iran by the US and Israel, which has now caused severe economic dislocation everywhere including India? The answer is no,” Ramesh wrote on X. The Congress leader asked four-point questions:

  1. Has the Modi government condemned or condemned the ongoing targeted killings of top Iranian leaders by the US and Israel?
  2. Has the Modi government condemned or condemned the brutal efforts by the US and Israel to force regime change and state collapse, which could lead to civil war in Iran?
  3. Has the Modi government made serious diplomatic efforts and initiatives to immediately stop the bombing of Iran and its attacks on energy and other essential infrastructure in the Gulf countries?
  4. Has the Prime Minister used his much-vaunted friendship with the US President and the Israeli Prime Minister to broker a ceasefire?

Answering all four questions with a big ‘No’, he further wrote in his post, “These 4 NOs reflect moral cowardice and political betrayal towards India’s civilizational values.”His comments have come when America has intensified its military campaign against Iran. On Friday, US President Donald Trump indicated that Washington is close to its objectives and may soon wind down its operations. Meanwhile, US Central Command reported significant damage to Iranian military assets under ‘Operation Epic Fury’, including attacks on drone production facilities and naval infrastructure. Pentagon officials said thousands of targets have been hit in recent operations, indicating the intensity of US military actions in the region.

Andhra Pradesh High Court rules against DNA testing of children in marital disputes.

Can a husband conduct a DNA test on his children to prove infidelity? What did the Andhra Pradesh High Court say?

Andhra Pradesh The recent judgment of the High Court that DNA testing of children should not be ordered in a mechanical manner in matrimonial disputes highlights the importance of protecting the rights of children. The High Court said that children should not be used as pawns to settle disputes between parents and a man cannot undergo DNA test of his children to prove his wife’s infidelity. Background of the case The case arose out of a long pending matrimonial dispute between a husband and wife from Vizianagaram district. The husband filed HMOP No. 45 of 2019 before the Senior Civil Judge, Vizianagaram, seeking divorce on the grounds of desertion under Section 13(1)(ib) of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955. During the pendency of the divorce petition, the husband moved IA No. 553 of 2022 under Section 45 of the Indian Evidence Act, seeking DNA testing of his two children. He claimed that testing was necessary to establish that he was not the biological father, alleging that the children were born out of his wife’s adulterous relationship. The trial court rejected the DNA testing application and reached a settlement on July 10, 2024, citing potential social stigma. Supreme Court Legislation discouraging the mechanical use of DNA tests involving children. Challenging this denial, the husband approached the Andhra Pradesh High Court through a civil revision petition under Article 227 of the Constitution. Appellant’s arguments The husband argued that the trial court erred in rejecting his application for DNA testing. His lawyer Krishna S argued that the DNA test would help reveal the truth about the paternity of the children. Denying such scientific evidence would deprive the petitioner of an important opportunity to prove its allegations.Krishna argued that the petitioner’s right to fair trial and justice cannot be denied by considering the right to privacy of his wife and children. He argued that his right to privacy is not absolute. According to him, ordering the DNA test would not cause any prejudice to his wife or children as it would only reveal the truth in the marital dispute where infidelity was alleged. defendant’s answer The wife opposed the petition, arguing that the divorce petition was only on the grounds of desertion, but not on the grounds of adultery. Their lawyer A Sai Naveen said that conducting DNA tests on children would be a violation of their privacy and dignity. He said that when children are not parties to the dispute between parents, DNA test of children should not be ordered. Naveen relied on recent Supreme Court judgments in which the top court had warned courts below against allowing DNA tests, which could have harmful social and psychological consequences for children, including the risk of their validity being questioned.High Court analysis Considering the arguments of both the parties, the High Court judge, Justice Taralada Rajasekhar Rao, upheld the arguments of the respondent (wife) and held that the divorce petition was filed on the grounds of desertion, but not on the grounds of adultery. Additionally, the children were not parties to the suit, nor were they claiming maintenance or any legal benefits. The High Court also cited several Supreme Court decisions including Gautam Kundu Vs. State of West Bengal, Aparna Ajinkya Firodia vs. Ajinkya Arun Firodia, and R. In Rajendran v. Qamar Nisha the court reiterated that there is a strong presumption of legitimacy under Section 112 of the Evidence Act for children born during a valid marriage. Justice Rao said DNA testing should not be ordered routinely or only to support allegations of infidelity. He said the child’s interests, identity, privacy and social standing should be given priority over parental disputes. The High Court also rejected the argument that refusal to undergo DNA testing violates the husband’s right to a fair trial, holding that a party’s right to a fair trial cannot override the fundamental rights and best interests of a third party, especially a child.legal significance This decision of the AP High Court reinforces the legal principles that DNA testing of children is an exception, not the rule, especially in matrimonial disputes. It also emphasizes that courts should adopt a child-centric approach, not a parent-centric one. Allegations of incest must be proven through independent evidence, not by subjecting children to intrusive scientific tests. It also reiterates the continued relevance of section 112 of the Evidence Act in protecting the legitimacy of children. last order The Andhra Pradesh High Court dismissed the civil revision petition, upholding the trial court’s refusal to order DNA testing. It also imposed a fine of Rs 3000 on the petitioner, payable to the District Legal Services Authority within three weeks and directed recovery of the amount including taking coercive steps if necessary.Highlights from the decision

  • DNA testing cannot be adopted as a shortcut to prove marital misconduct.
  • Children cannot be used as “evidence” in disputes between parents.
  • The right to a fair trial does not violate a child’s right to privacy and identity.
  • The grounds given in a divorce petition strictly determine the scope of evidence.

Why does it matter? This judgment is significant as it strengthens judicial safeguards around the rights of children in family court litigation. As DNA testing becomes more accessible, there is an increasing need for courts to create strict limits on its use.The judgment sends a clear message that the pursuit of truth in matrimonial disputes cannot be done at the expense of the dignity, legitimacy and social welfare of the child, and that parental disputes must be resolved without causing irreversible harm to children.

Billion-stream ‘ghost artist’ revealed: North Carolina man pleads guilty in first AI music fraud case, forfeits $8.1 million world News

Billion-stream 'ghost artist' revealed: North Carolina man pleads guilty in first AI music fraud case, forfeits $8.1 million

It’s a feat most GRAMMY winners never achieve: billions of streams on the world’s biggest platforms. But for North Carolina resident Michael Smith, 54, the “fans” didn’t exist. They were lines of code, and the music was “AI Slop”.Smith has officially pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, marking the first criminal conviction for AI-assisted music streaming fraud in US history. As part of his plea, Smith has agreed to forfeit $8.1 million in ill-gotten gains, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.

the man behind the tunes

Before becoming a federal criminal, Smith lived the quintessential suburban life in a spacious home in Charlotte with his wife and six children. He made money steadily by owning several medical clinics, judging a reality show ‘One Shot’ and even wrote a self-help book. His next agenda in life was to become famous and he started the venture. In 2013, he booked a “20-hour” music training session with Jonathan Hay, a publicist who provides PR consulting to aspiring musicians. However, beneath the surface of his burgeoning music career was a vast digital architecture designed to siphon money from the industry’s royalty pools.

Anatomy of an $8 Million Heist

Michael Smith and Jonathan Hay

The scheme was a perfect combination of high-tech automation and “instant music”. According to his friend and music godfather Hey, Smith hooked up with Alex Mitchell, CEO of AI song generator startup Boomi. It allowed people to “make” music by choosing or customizing cues about the tune. Around 2018, the “chief executive of an AI music company” provided Smith with “thousands of songs each week”. The songs were named “Zygophyceae” and “Zygopteraceae”, crediting the fake artists, “Calm Force” and “Calorie Event”. But he didn’t wait for listeners to discover his tunes or promote them online, he built a personal audience.According to the indictment, on October 20, 2017, Smith emailed himself a financial statement showing he had 52 cloud service accounts, each containing 20 bot accounts on the streaming platform, for a total of 1,040 bot accounts. At his peak, Smith generated approximately 661,440 streams per day, resulting in his annual royalties exceeding $1.2 million. In 2018, Hay and Smith released an album titled ‘Jazz’, which hit the Billboard charts and immediately reached No. 1. But the next week it disappeared from the rankings. Hay began receiving notices from distributors that his music be flagged for streaming fraud and removed. This was the beginning of the revelation of gambling.Meanwhile, he was also investigating a lawsuit from employees of his medical offices who claimed that his clinics engaged in Medicaid and Medicare fraud and alleged that he was transferring money from the clinics to his record label with Hey, SMH Records. The case was settled in 2020 with Smith and his co-defendants reaching a settlement that would have required them to pay $900,000. However, by 2022, Smith was back on track, even producing a song with Snoop Dogg and Billy Ray Cyrus. He also had other projects in the works including a horror film with RZA and an animated series in which a cartoon Smith would travel to the afterlife. Sadly, all the fanfare died down by the following year. The film flopped and Smith stepped away from social media. “Spigot” was eventually shut down in 2023 when the Mechanical Licensing Collective, a non-profit that collects and distributes royalties to streaming services, had informed Smith of his fraud and was now withholding payments. By September 2024, the FBI arrived at his door and alleged that he had used artificial intelligence music generators to create massive amounts of songs. “Smith’s brazen scheme is over, as he has been convicted of a federal crime for committing AI-assisted fraud,” the US said. attorney Jay Clayton said in a statement Thursday. He now faces a maximum of five years in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced on July 29.

video Killed the Radio Star?

Users stream music through Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube Music, and other platforms. Every time a song is played through these platforms, songwriters, singers and others who own the rights are entitled to small royalty payments. However, due to streaming fraud, these funds shift from talented artists to fraudsters. Streaming fraud has become a massive problem in the music industry over the past few years with the increase in the use of AI and technology. Fraudsters have used codes and websites to create thousands of songs and flood popular streaming services including Spotify and Apple Music. Earlier, Deezer, a French music streaming service, reported that it uploaded 60,000 AI songs to its platform daily, further adding that about 85% of the streams on those tracks were fraudulent. Morgan Hayduk, co-CEO of streaming-fraud detection startup BeatDap, shared with WIRED that they had monitored an entire network of actors extorting money from streamers. “Conservatively, this is a billion-dollar-a-year problem,” Hayduk said. “The Michael Smith case is the tip of the iceberg.”A 2021 study by France’s National Music Center found that about 1 to 3 percent of all streams were fraudulent. According to Bestdap, this number is around 10 percent. Smith is not the first person to commit streaming fraud. Whether he is seen as a high-tech thief or a “Robin Hood” who circumvents an exploitative system, one thing is certain: the era of the “audience-less superstar” has got its first legal reckoning.
