WATCH: Surveillance footage shows Epstein guards failed mandatory rounds before death

A newly surfaced surveillance video from the night of Jeffrey Epstein’s death shows prison guards casually loitering at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan just feet away from the cell where he killed himself.According to video found in a repository of recently released DOJ documents, corrections officers Tovah Noel and Michael Thomas were seen relaxing in front of the officer station in the special housing unit at about 3:15 p.m., both writing on a piece of paper, pacing back and forth and talking on the phone instead of their mandatory 3 a.m. rounds.According to the prison’s layout, Epstein was in the first cell of the block, just a few feet up a short set of stairs behind the officer’s station in the ninth-floor L tier wing. The Justice Department said it is believed that Epstein killed himself between 10:30 p.m. on August 9, the last time Noel, who was working a double shift, checked on the inmates, and 6:30 a.m. on August 10, when Noel and Thomas discovered his lifeless body while serving breakfast to the inmates.DOJ documents revealed that the guards apparently ignored bright-orange warnings and reminders that the officer in charge of the special housing unit had posted on their computers. The notes reminded everyone that Epstein was away from suicide, requiring a bunkmate and regular check-ins at all times.“Mandatory [sic] According to God, rounds should be conducted on Epstein every 30 minutes!!! Read an order. The SHU boss, Lt. Roberto Grijalva, later told DOJ investigators, “I put it next to the computer. It was just something between us, saying, make sure the rounds are conducted and he has a bunkie near him at all times. It’s bright orange paper and black writing.”Grijalva said he left the instructions “hanging on the PC, right next to the screen” on August 9 at 2 a.m. shortly before he went home for the weekend. He said, “Whoever was there saw it – saw that paper. On Monday, I came in and that paper was no longer there.”Grijalva said that around 8 a.m. on August 9, he brought down Epstein and his cellmate, convicted drug dealer Efrain Reyes. Epstein had been meeting with his lawyers all day, and Reyes had all his stuff, and was presumably on his way home.“When I walked them to the door, I said, ‘You’re going to get a bunkie,'” Grijalva told him. “Epstein is like, ‘No, I’m good.'”“He seemed calm,” Grijalva said of Epstein. “He joked because he asked for a new jumper and I told him, ‘No.’ And he said, ‘Why not?’ I said, ‘This is a prison, this is what you have to do.’ Nobody else’s got a jumper, it’s not Versace,’ you know. He laughed, ‘Ha, ha, ha, ha,’ and that was it.”Grijalva said that before leaving for the weekend, he told staff several times that he would need a new cell mate when Epstein returned from a meeting with his lawyers that evening. He also told inspectors that there were several orange bedsheets in Epstein’s cell, the fabric he used to hang himself, which was because officials had failed to remove Reyes’s bedsheets when he was discharged, and that they had presumably given Epstein some extra sheets after he complained of being cold at night.“They messed up,” Grijalva said. “Sorry. It’s a big deal.”According to the Bureau of Prisons, Grijalva was still employed at the Manhattan Correctional Center and had been promoted to deputy captain. The chairman of the House Oversight Committee called Noel for an interview on March 26, after The Post reported that he had Googled Epstein and deposited mysterious cash shortly before he took his own life.Noel and Thomas were accused of falsifying records that said they checked on Epstein overnight, although investigators later learned that they failed to check on him at 3 a.m. and 5 a.m.They were fired, but criminal charges against both were dropped in 2021 by Obama-appointed U.S. District Court Judge Analisa Torres.

'Can't survive without terrorism': BJP reacts to former Pakistani envoy's remarks on attacking India
BJP national spokesperson Tuhin Sinha

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Former Pakistani diplomat said on Sunday Abdul BasitRecent comments against India have shown that Pakistan “cannot survive without terrorism.”Former Pakistani ambassador to India Basit said in an interview that in a hypothetical scenario where the US tried to destroy Pakistan’s nuclear capabilities, Islamabad would have to attack Mumbai or New Delhi.Reacting sharply to the comments, BJP national spokesperson Tuhin Sinha told IANS, “Abdul Basit’s threat that Delhi and Mumbai will be bombed by Pakistan shows that even today Pakistan is rattled by the attacks.” Operation Sindoor. He has lost his mental balance.”Terming Pakistan a “terrorist country”, Sinha said, “It is a terrorist country and now we don’t even need to say that. Last year, (Pakistan Army Chief) Asim Munir had told the US that if needed, the oil refineries in Jamnagar would be blown up. Now, the country’s former envoy has used such language. This shows that terrorism has become ingrained in their nature. Pakistan cannot survive without terrorism.”Basit had said, “Suppose there is a scenario where the US views our nuclear program negatively or tries to destroy our nuclear capability. It is unlikely, but I am talking about the worst-case scenario. Let’s imagine that the US tries to attack us. Even if the US is not within our nuclear range, what are our options?”When asked if India would get involved, he said, “India. We don’t have to do anything else. Even though we don’t have the range to target the US, we still have to attack India’s Mumbai and New Delhi without thinking. We have no other option, because the US is not in our range, so we will have no option but to attack India. Then let’s see what happens. We don’t want that to happen.”Basit’s comments come amid tensions in the Middle East over Iran’s nuclear program following the joint US-Israeli strikes on Tehran on February 28. The attacks triggered widespread conflict in the region, which has now entered its third week. Donald Trump has also warned Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face military action.

Saudi Ports announces new services to supply ships with fuel, water, food and crew support at ports in the Eastern Region/Representative Image

As maritime activity faces disruption across the region, Saudi Arabia has launched a new initiative to streamline essential services for ships, aiming to ensure operational continuity and strengthen supply chains. Mawani, the General Authority for Saudi Arabia’s Ports, has announced the launch of an initiative to provide integrated services for ships operating in the Eastern Region. The move is designed to make key supplies and operational support more accessible, allowing ships to receive services directly and without delay. This initiative covers a wide range of essential services required for maritime operations. These include supplies of fuel, water, food and medicines as well as crew change services and other operational needs. The goal is to ensure that ships can continue their operations smoothly while docked at ports in the region. Mwani said it will utilize its capabilities in the ports of the eastern region to deliver these services in a faster and more coordinated manner. As part of the rollout, the authority will provide an updated list of approved ship suppliers and fuel service providers. This will allow shipowners and operators to coordinate directly with service providers, improving efficiency and reducing delays. To support this initiative, Mawani’s Customer Service and Knowledge Center will operate round the clock. The center will handle inquiries and facilitate service requests with the aim of improving response time and overall service quality. The authority said the initiative is part of its wider efforts to support maritime activity, strengthen the reliability of supply chains and ensure that Saudi ports remain fully operational in all circumstances. The launch comes at a time of heightened regional tensions, including disruptions to navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and continued attacks affecting parts of the region. These developments have had an impact on maritime traffic and energy markets, making the need for reliable port operations more important.

New Delhi: After joining JDU, senior JDU leader KC Tyagi on Sunday pledged to carry forward the legacy of former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh. Rashtriya Lok Dalafter separation from Nitish Kumar-led party, which has been at the helm of the Bihar government under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for the last two decades. However, Tyagi’s political base lies in western Uttar Pradesh, away from JDU’s stronghold in Bihar. Meanwhile, NDA ally RLD is also in influence in Uttar Pradesh, especially in the western region, carrying forward the legacy of Chaudhary Charan Singh under the leadership of his grandson. Jayant Chaudhary.Tyagi said his move reflects continuity rather than change, stressing that there is no difference between JDU and RLD, while recalling the previous efforts of Nitish Kumar and Chaudhary Ajit Singh to come together politically.Speaking to ANI, Tyagi said, “I started my political career with Lok Dal. This is just its basic form; there is nothing new in it… We will help fulfill the dream left by Chaudhary Charan Singh… There is no difference between JDU and RLD. There was a time when Nitish Kumar and Chaudhary Ajit Singh were ready to form a party together. There is no difference between these two.”Tyagi formally joined RLD in New Delhi in the presence of party president and Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary. The veteran socialist leader, a founding member of JD(U), had resigned from the party on March 17.Earlier this week, Tyagi said he did not take part in the party’s latest membership drive, clarifying that there is no personal rift between him and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over the Rajya Sabha seat allocation.Asserting that his relations with the party remain intact, Tyagi said that “his relations with Nitish Kumar and Bihar JDU will remain the same”.“I am the founder of Janata Dal (United) along with George Fernandes, Sharad Yadav, Nitish Kumar and Digvijay Singh… I have been its member since then. However, I did not participate in this membership drive,” he said. The senior leader also addressed speculation over his parliamentary ambitions and denied that his exit was linked to any bid for a Rajya Sabha seat. Tyagi said, “There is not a single instance of me trying for a Rajya Sabha ticket. Even in 2013, Nitish Kumar had called me and offered me the ticket.”

Chhattisgarh: Pen replaced gun in Bastar, 85 surrendered Maoists gave literacy test. raipur news

Chhattisgarh: Pen replaced gun in Bastar, 85 surrendered Maoists gave literacy test.

Raipur: In a quiet classroom in Bijapur, far away from the dense forests that once defined their lives, 85 surrendered Maoists sat down to take exams this week, most of them appearing for the first time in their lives. For years, these men and women lived under the shadow of insurgency, cut off from formal education and the rhythm of normal life. However, on Friday, he took up the pen after laying down his arms and attempted the basic literacy test after completing training under ‘ULLAAS Nav Bharat Literacy Programme’.

Amit Shah described 2014-2026 as the golden age for India’s internal security, pledged to eradicate Maoism.

Bijapur SP Jitendra Yadav said, “These are people who never got a chance to go to school. Now they are learning to read, write and rebuild their lives.”Officials say this change is as much symbolic as it is real, as Bijapur has been one of the most Maoist-affected districts in the country, so it means a lot when the cause (Maoists) itself is making an example (surrendering cadres). The literacy program is part of the comprehensive surrender and rehabilitation policy of Chhattisgarh, in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Along with financial assistance and livelihood training, the state has begun to focus on education as a key tool for reintegration.SP Yadav said, “The results are beginning to be visible. Before this batch, 272 surrendered Maoist cadres had completed basic literacy training. Many of them are now leading relatively stable lives, reintegrating back into society as workers, farmers or small entrepreneurs.”Changes are visible in the training centers of Bijapur. Former cadre, some in their 20s, others much older, sit in lessons, trace letters, form words, and gradually gain confidence. Police officials say the idea is to replace the narrative of violence with one of opportunity. The SP said, “Its aim is to divert the misguided youth from the path of violence and give them a pen in their hands.”The Bijapur police are still appealing to those still in Maoist ranks to surrender, promising support through rehabilitation schemes, which have now extended beyond monetary assistance to include education and skill development. In Bastar, where stories have long been shaped by conflict, such scenes of former rebels appearing for exams are quietly scripting a different future.
