Man who shot at Rihanna's home pleads 'not guilty' to attempted murder charge; Asks to reduce bail

Florida woman pleads ‘not guilty’ to attempted murder Rihanna. Evanna Lisette Ortiz, of Orlando, also pleaded not guilty through her attorney to more than a dozen other felony counts in Los Angeles Superior Court.

The shooter at Rihanna’s house could be sentenced to life in prison

Ortiz is charged with 10 counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and three counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle or dwelling. If convicted on all charges, he could face life in prison. Her attorney, Deputy Public Defender Derek Ray Dillman, entered the plea on her behalf after Ortiz appeared behind glass in a detention area wearing yellow prison garb and with her blonde hair in braids. She spoke only to agree to waive her right to an expedited preliminary hearing, the next stage of the case where evidence is presented to determine whether a trial is needed.

Shooter at Rihanna’s house asked to reduce bail

His attorney requested that his bail be reduced from $1.9 million to $70,000 based on his ability to pay. Judge Theresa McGonigal denied the request and kept bail in place. The prosecutor argued against the reduction, saying she was a major danger to the community and would likely flee. Deputy District Attorney Alexander Bott said, “This case involves dangerous, intentional shootings into occupied homes.” “This is the kind of conduct that could easily result in multiple murders.”When Ortiz was arrested a few hours after the shooting, she was alone in her car with a rifle, more rounds and a wig she intended to use as a disguise, Bott said. Public records show Ortiz has been a licensed speech pathologist for more than a decade. McGonigal ruled at the request of the state attorney general that he be barred from practicing in California.

Shooter fired 20 bullets at singer’s house

Prosecutors allege that Rihanna, her partner A$AP Rocky and their three young children were among the people who attacked their home in the Beverly Hills area on March 8, when Ortiz, 35, took over the property and fired about 20 bullets from an AR-15 style rifle into a high exterior wall.Hochman did not say where any of the bullets landed, discuss a motive, or describe any relationship between Ortiz and Rihanna, saying all were under investigation. He also said his office was investigating Ortiz’s social media posts in the days before the shooting.

The shooter was charged with multiple assaults.

District Attorney Nathan Hochman said when Ortiz was charged that Rihanna and Rocky were together in an Airstream trailer at the time of the shooting, while her mother, their children and staff were in the main house. Prosecutors said there were three shooting incidents at Rihanna’s home, her trailer and a neighbor’s home. 10 attacks took place on Rihanna and her family, two employees and two people from the neighboring house.

BlackRock CEO Larry Fink has warned that oil could reach $150 due to the Iran-US war, which would lead to a ‘global recession’. world News

Amid escalating conflict involving Iran-Israel-US tensions, more than three weeks in the making now, Washington has deployed more than 4,000 marines to the region and is considering further military actions, even as talk of a ceasefire surfaces, with oil markets swinging sharply in response to both military developments and diplomatic signals.Larry Fink, one of BlackRock’s eight co-founders and now its chairman and chief executive, has warned that if Iran continues to threaten energy supply routes after the war ends, prices could rise to $150 a barrel and push the global economy into recession.

The conflict that will determine the direction of oil markets

BlackRock, the world’s largest wealth manager with approximately $14 trillion in assets, is one of the most influential financial institutions on the planet. Its immense scale and reach provides Chairman and CEO Larry Fink a unique vantage point on global events and their potential impact on the economy. But in an interview BBC’s Bigg Boss interview In a podcast published Wednesday, he said it was too early to determine the ultimate outcome of the war, but the direction of oil prices would depend on what happens next.If the conflict is resolved and Iran becomes a country that “can be accepted again by the international community,” he said, prices could fall below pre-war levels, which stood at about $70 a barrel. But that outcome depends on more than a ceasefire.

“Year above $100…Oil near $150”

Fink warned that even if the fighting stops, markets could remain under pressure if Iran continues to pose a threat to trade and regional stability, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz.“If the war ends, and yet Iran remains a threat, a threat to trade, a threat to the Strait of Hormuz, a threat to this peaceful coexistence of the GCC region, then I would argue that we could have oil from over US$100 to closer to US$150, which has a profound impact on the economy,” he said. He said such a scenario would amount to “possibly a severe and massive recession.”

Supply disruption focuses on a critical chokepoint

The warning comes as the conflict has virtually halted shipments of oil and liquefied natural gas through the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow passage that normally carries about a fifth of the world’s gas and crude supplies. The scale of the disruption has drawn concern from the International Energy Agency, which described the situation as “the largest supply disruption in the history of the global oil market”.

What to know about the Strait of Hormuz, a key route essential for global energy supplies

Brent crude prices have reached their highest level in nearly four years, at one point near $120 a barrel. However, prices fell nearly 4% to around $98 on Wednesday after reports that the United States had sent Iran a 15-point proposal aimed at ending the war, raising the possibility of a ceasefire.Iran has strongly rejected Donald Trump’s claims that talks are underway to end the ongoing conflict, with its top military command scoffing at Washington’s statements. In a video shared by Iranian media, a military spokesman rejected the suggestion and said the United States was effectively “negotiating with itself.” The spokesperson delivered a defiant message, emphasizing that Tehran had no intention of engaging in negotiations under the current circumstances.“Our first and last words… have been, are and will be: Someone like us will never compromise with someone like you. Not now, not ever,” the spokesperson said. Also, Washington has deployed more than 4,000 US Marines to the region and is considering sending a combat brigade from the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, signaling a possible surge.

Infrastructure damage and recovery delays

Even if hostilities subside, energy supplies are unlikely to improve rapidly. Fatih Birol, executive director of the International Energy Agency, said more than 40 energy assets in nine countries in the Middle East were “severely or very severely” damaged, meaning oil fields, refineries and pipelines could not be immediately restored.

This destruction will prolong the disruption to global supply chains even after the conflict ends. Speaking at the National Press Club of Australia in Canberra on Monday, Birol compared the current situation to past crises: “The impact of the current disruptions is comparable to the two major oil crises in the 1970s and the natural gas crisis of 2022 following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, taken together.” He said its impact goes beyond oil and gas. “Some important arteries of the global economy, such as petrochemicals, fertilizers, sulfur, helium, their trade is disrupted, which will have serious consequences for the global economy,” Birol said.

Impact on households and pressure towards alternative energy

Fink also warned that higher energy prices would have a direct and unequal impact on consumers, especially in import-dependent countries. “Rising energy prices is a very regressive tax. It hits the poor more than the rich,” he said. In the UK, where most of the country’s energy is imported, rising oil and gas costs are expected to hit household bills in the coming months. The pressure has already prompted some energy experts to call on governments to expand domestic oil and gas production to reduce the risk of external shocks.

Additionally, Fink said continued high prices could accelerate the shift toward alternative energy sources. “If oil prices go up to $150 you’ll have a lot of countries moving increasingly toward solar and maybe wind energy,” he said. “Use what you have unquestioningly, but also move aggressively toward alternative sources.”

No one is worried: Immigration lawyer asks companies to contact Congressman on delay in stamping H-1B visas in India

किसी को भी चिंता नहीं है: आव्रजन वकील ने कंपनियों से भारत में एच-1बी वीजा पर मुहर लगाने में देरी पर कांग्रेसियों से संपर्क करने को कहा

Immigration lawyer Emily Newman said that companies should contact their congressmen, senators and inform them about the delay in H-1B visa stamping in India which is impacting their business.

Immigration attorney Emily Newman said there is no possible solution to the current visa stamping delay situation in India because no one is concerned that thousands of H-1B visa holders are stranded in India. Companies should reach out to their congressmen and urge them to find solutions to the situation because businesses in the US are being affected, Newman said.“I don’t see anybody urging the State Department to improve the situation. Typically, we hear from members of Congress who urge the State Department to say, ‘Hey we need to open up more visa appointments because it’s hurting business, it’s hurting people’s ability to travel’ and I’m not hearing anything about that right now. There doesn’t seem to be any kind of concern, which tells me they’re not planning to improve anything.” Because it seems like no one is overly concerned about it,” Newman said. Companies should reach out to their congressmen and senators, let them know about the situation that’s affecting their business, their employees, the lawyer said. “Unless someone complains about it, the department doesn’t have an incentive to do anything,” Newman said. He said only the State Department and Secretary Marco Rubio can do anything about it. Immigration lawyer Rahul Reddy said that the Donald Trump administration cannot impose legal restrictions on H-1B and this is Donald Trump’s way of hindering H-1B visa holders. He said that the Trump administration has learned from their past mistakes and now they know that they can do more when visa holders are outside the US and not inside the US and so they advise visa holders not to travel outside the US. Currently, there is no interview date available in the four Consulates inside India, and the starting date of appointment is around March 2027. The situation stems from the department’s massive rescheduling of interview dates in December 2025 due to social media scrutiny of H-1B and H-4 visa holders. Since hundreds of Indians traveled to India during November, December and also scheduled their appointments at the embassy for new visa stamping during that time, they got stuck in India as they could not re-enter the US. Some companies allowed them to work from India but overall the situation is in limbo.

Parliament passes bill to amend transgender law; Two members of the TG Persons Council resigned in protest

New Delhi: On the day Parliament gave its seal of approval to the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill 2026 amid opposition MPs demanding that the bill be sent to a standing committee for wider consultation, two National Council for Transgender Persons members of the community sent their resignations to the social justice minister. Virendra Kumar To register our strong protest against the Bill and the lack of consultation. The bill provides a more precise definition of “transgender persons”, making it clear that it will not include persons with “diverse sexual orientations and self-perceived sexual identities”.“From the NCTP, some of us tried to reach out to you as the voice of the community and we felt that we were not heard,” Rituparna Neog, council member from the North-East region, said in her resignation letter addressed to Kumar, who is the president of the statutory body. The body is believed to have around 10 members representing the transgender community. The other member who resigned, Kalaki Subramaniam, representative of the southern region, lodged a strong protest over the lack of consultation with the community who sees the bill as “regressive” and “a step back for their fundamental rights to self-identity and dignity”. “I cannot continue to have a seat at the table where our collective voice has been silenced,” she said. The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill, which was passed in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, was passed by voice vote in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. Congress party’s Renuka Chaudhary initiated the discussion and raised a provocative question – “If no one asks us – men and women – to prove our gender before a medical board, then who are we to question the identity of trans people?”At the end of the discussion, Minister Virendra Kumar reiterated that the Bill aims to provide protection only to those who face serious social discrimination because of their biological status. He sought to counter the opposition to the removal of the clause on self-identified identification and the introduction of a Medical Board, saying that the objective was to secure the rights of TG individuals by removing the scope for any ambiguity and to enable delivery of benefits to genuine individuals through administrative clarity. BJP members also joined the voice in support. The amendment, which will now become law after the assent of the President of India, marks a significant departure from the existing law as it removes the clause that allows “self-perceived gender identity” to be the basis for approval of transgender certificate by the District Magistrate for Self-Determination and Recognition.A medical board chaired by the Chief Medical Officer has been introduced, and the District Magistrate will issue a certificate of transgender identity, after examining the recommendation of the medical board, cited as an “authority” constituted by the Central or State Governments. The Bill proposes to create specific offenses with graded penalties that reflect the seriousness of the harm, the irreversibility of the injury and the particular vulnerability of child victims.DMK’s Tiruchi Siva, who brought a private member’s bill “The Rights of Transgender Persons Bill, 2014”, reflected the struggles of the community to get their rights and sought consultation with stakeholders, legal experts, civil society, transgender community as well as a review by the select committee. Manoj Kumar Jha (RJD), Saket Gokhale (TMC), CPI (M) MP John Brittas, NCP-SCP leader Fauzia Khan, Jaya Bachchan (SP), Shiv Sena-UBT’s Priyanka Chaturvedi, Sanjay Singh And AAP’s Sandeep Pathak, IUML’s Abdul Wahab, among others, strongly opposed the bill.Even YSR Congress Party’s Gola Babu Rao and BJD’s Subhashish Khuntia joined the chorus of other opposition members and demanded that the bill be sent to a parliamentary committee for stakeholder consultation. The first sign of reaction from the community came when two NCTP members resigned soon after the bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha. Also the community members, who have been agitating through press conferences and outreach campaigns since the introduction of the Bill, are now planning to take to the streets through demonstrations in the states. In her resignation letter addressed to the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Kalki Subramaniam said, “Till February 2026, my experience of working with officials of the Ministry was one of mutual respect and a shared vision for an inclusive India. However, the recent introduction and passage of the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill 2026 has created an untenable situation for me.”“As a statutory representative, my primary duty is to advise the government on legislation that affects our lives. “The decision to pursue this bill without any formal consultation with me or other community representatives of the NCTP undermines the very purpose for which this council was established,” he said. Registering her protest over the bill passed by Parliament, Rituparna Neog in her resignation letter said, “While I understand my responsibility as an NCTP member to represent the voice of my community before the competent authority, however, in view of the present circumstances, I do not wish to continue as a member.”At a hastily called meeting by senior ministry officials on Saturday, four NCTP members Abhinaa Aher, Vidya Rajput, Raveena Bariha and Subramaniam had strongly reiterated that “self-affirmation of transgender identity, as upheld in the NALSA decision, must remain the foundation of transgender identity”.After the meeting, members highlighted the absence of Social Justice Minister Virendra Kumar, who was reported to be chairing the meeting. “We were informed that the minister is unable to attend due to ill health and alleged family emergency,” Aher said.According to Aher, at the meeting led by Joint Secretary Yogita Swarup, senior economic advisor in the ministry, government officials raised concerns about identifying “genuine” transgender persons and mentioned biological markers such as chromosomal combination (XX/XY). She added, “NCTP members clarified the concept of gender incongruence/dysphoria, mental health aspects and the impact of stigma, although they felt there was a gap in understanding of transgender issues among officials.”The TG Council members also stressed at the meeting that the definition of transgender person in the Bill is not inclusive and should clearly include transgender men and transgender women; Use respectful terminology and recognize diverse regional identities such as Nupi Manabi and Nupi Manba (Manipur). On the provision in the Bill to introduce screening by a medical board, NCTP members initially called for the removal of this provision. Aher said, “However, considering the government’s position, members proposed that any assessment should be limited to mental health support, should not involve invasive physical examinations, and should maintain dignity and be consistent with NALSA decisions.” The need for gender-neutral laws to address violence against transgender persons was also strongly raised. Now that the bill has been passed in Parliament without heeding any suggestions from NCTP member representatives, the community has announced to launch protests and demonstrations from Thursday.

Prithvi Shaw. (file photo)

New Delhi: “I like to live in the present.” this is the gist of it Prithvi ShawHis outlook deteriorated after a tumultuous period, which led to him losing his IPL place and his place in the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team. After a mental reset, Delhi Capitals batsmen are choosing clarity over noise.“Last year when I didn’t play the IPL, I enjoyed my life to the fullest. I went to a few places to refresh my mind a bit and then came back. The same routine, I practised, worked hard… Whatever I used to do, I started doing it thrice. And I think it was a good break for me. I can’t say enough about it,” Shaw told reporters ahead of Delhi Capitals’ intra-squad match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday. That I took a step back.”

Big changes in RCB before IPL: New rules, tribute and team update

For Shaw, the time away helped him reset mentally and reconnect with his personal life.“It was just a necessary break so that I could strengthen myself mentally. It was a good break and I enjoyed it a lot. I got a lot of time with the family, so I was happy with it.”Shaw, who has played 79 matches for Delhi Capitals since joining the franchise in 2018, did not find any taker in 2025. In IPL 2023 and 2024, his performance declined as he failed to cross 200 runs in both the seasons and was subsequently dropped from the team. While admitting that the last few IPL seasons have not been ideal, he remains hopeful. “In the last few years, the IPL has not been very good for me. Not really bad, not really good. But obviously, people expect a lot, especially when it comes to an opening batsman.”For Shaw, the solution lies in going back to basics, emphasizing quality over quantity.“During practice you have to give your 100%… So, overall, it comes down to practice and hard work. And there has to be quality practice… At some level, you have to have quality practice.”Having been labeled a genius from a young age, Shaw addressed external expectations and admitted to making mistakes.“Sir, I didn’t write that. That I am this, I am that. I am a human being. I will make mistakes. And obviously, whatever is written outside, they know only half of it. My family knows me. I have had as many friends as I have in my life, so they know me inside out. Whenever good things happened on social media or newspapers, or bad things happened, I was obviously very young,” said the DC batsman.“If you look at social media every time, I come. If you look in the newspaper, I come. So, I stopped looking at those things. Those were the things that kept me away from all this. And I had confidence in myself because I know where I come from and how hard I have worked. Humans make mistakes. You too have made mistakes in your life.”“I’ve made mistakes too. That’s all. It’s okay. Move on. That’s history. That’s what happened. It’s been years.” I may have made some mistakes in my life. And I think this is the time when I am mentally very happy. I like to come on the field. This is my passion and no one can take it away from me, no matter how much someone writes about me,” he said.Shaw, who has played five Tests, six ODIs and one T20I, admitted that the toughest phase came when he was dropped from the Mumbai team, a decision with which he disagreed. Last year, he was dropped from the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team due to poor fitness and lack of discipline. However, his fitness and discipline issues have grabbed more headlines than his performances in recent months, and Shaw also remained unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction. He recalled, “The reason given to me was not good to me. So even at that time I smiled and went away. I said, okay.”“I didn’t talk to the selector. I didn’t talk to the chairman. I didn’t talk to anybody.”“Maharashtra was a little closer to Mumbai and I had friends there, so I went there. And it was great,” Shaw said.Shaw performed very well for Maharashtra.
