'India is an oasis of energy security': Government said, no shortage of fuel, warned against misinformation

New Delhi: The government on Thursday refused to ban the sale of petrol and diesel, saying there is no shortage of oil and gas and refiners are importing the excess.Calling India an “oasis of energy security”, which supplies refined fuel to over 150 countries, the government said the availability of domestic petrol and diesel is structurally assured. “All over one lakh retail fuel outlets are open and distributing fuel without any interruption,” it said. Not a single outlet has been asked to ration supplies,” it said, adding that two months’ oil supply and one month’s LPG requirements are already available.

‘India is an oasis of energy security’: Government said, no shortage of fuel, warned against misinformation

“India’s petroleum and LPG supply situation is completely safe and under control. There is no shortage of petrol, diesel or LPG anywhere in the country,” the Petroleum Ministry said. The clarification comes amid global moves to curb fuel use and speculation that India may also follow suit. Reports of shortages and rumors of a lockdown led to queues at filling stations, but the ministry said these were isolated incidents arising from “deliberate misinformation”.The government said that alternative arrangements have been made to reduce dependence on imports, especially from West Asia. India imports about 90% of crude oil, 60% of LPG and more than half of natural gas. As against the reserved capacity of 74 days, the actual availability is around 60 days.“There is approximately two months of stable supply available to every Indian citizen, irrespective of what happens globally,” the ministry said. The next two months of crude oil procurement have also been secured.” It said oil companies have increased credit to petrol pumps from one day to three days to prevent disruptions.India has diversified its crude oil supplies to 41 countries, with the bulk of crude oil being supplied from the Western Hemisphere to compensate for any disruption in the Strait of Hormuz. Domestic LPG production has been increased by 40% to 50,000 tonnes per day, meeting about 60% of demand, while 800,000 tonnes of incoming cargo is on the way. More than 50 lakh cylinders are being distributed daily. The government said switching of LPG connections to PNG is part of the strategy to move towards cheaper fuel and it had started well before the current situation.

Modi government cuts excise duty on fuel despite global oil crisis affecting neighbors like Pakistan

Revenue collection from the new duties is estimated to be around Rs 1,500 crore in a fortnight. In a parallel measure, the government has reduced special excise duty on petrol and diesel to address low realizations of oil marketing companies (OMCs). The move is aimed at providing relief to consumers, with officials indicating that retail prices of key fuels will remain unchanged. The government revised its fuel duty structure, reducing special additional excise duty on petrol to Rs 3 per liter and eliminating it completely on diesel. The move comes amid ongoing disruptions to global oil supply chains linked to the Middle East conflict, in which Iran has tightened its control over the Strait of Hormuz.“The additional excise duty on petrol was reduced to Rs 3 per liter from the earlier Rs 13 per litre. Meanwhile, the excise duty on diesel was reduced to Rs 0 from the earlier Rs 10 per litre,” according to a government order on Thursday.Meanwhile, global crude oil prices edged lower on Friday after the US indicated that talks with Iran were “going very well”, leading to a 10-day extension of the deadline with the country. The development weighed on sentiment and major benchmarks fell nearly 2 per cent in early trade.Brent crude, which had earlier risen as high as $108 a barrel, slipped 2.08 percent to $105.75 a barrel. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) fell 1.94 percent to $92.67 by 7:50am IST. The fall followed a sharp rise in the previous session, when Brent jumped 4.8 percent to $101.89 a barrel amid concerns over disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. Prices remain well above pre-conflict levels of around $70 a barrel, with WTI also up 4.6 percent in the previous session to $94.48.Domestically, Nayara Energy, India’s largest private fuel retailer, on Thursday raised petrol prices by Rs 5 per liter and diesel by Rs 3 per liter citing rising input costs linked to Middle East tensions. According to PTI sources, the company operates 6,967 of India’s 102,075 petrol pumps and has passed on part of the cost increase to consumers.Additionally, considering the overall issues arising from the Middle East, the government formed an inter-ministerial group, which will be led by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, according to ANI sources. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri will be among the members.

A roofing job in Maryland sparked widespread outrage after a homeowner allegedly reported six workers of Guatemalan origin to immigration authorities as they neared completion, with footage of the detention being widely circulated online. The incident, which was livestreamed and later removed, has drawn scrutiny not only for what is seen in the video, but also for the circumstances under which the workers were allegedly detained.

Livestream shows ICE agents detaining workers on a rooftop

The incident was captured in a livestream by co-worker Brian Polanco, identified in multiple reports as a Dominican citizen with permanent U.S. residency and part of the same roofing crew. Video, originally posted Instagram and lasting approximately 30 minutes, has since been removed but continues to circulate on social media platforms. The footage shows Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arriving at the property and directing workers on the roof to come down. A woman, believed to be the homeowner, is seen observing the situation in parts of the video.Polanco can be heard asserting his right to film peacefully while cooperating with authorities. “I have every right to record,” he tells an agent. “I’m not doing anything wrong.”He also explains the events that unfolded during the livestream. “We were opening up jobs and immigration came in,” he says. “The truth is they’re hurting working people, people who are doing good for the country.”He adds: “Instead of going after the criminals, the drug addicts on the streets, they come after the working people.”Six workers detained were reportedly aged between 18 and 40 and were said to have come from Glen Burnie for work. Polanco was not taken into custody. When the agents left with the workers, the crew’s van remained at the scene, reportedly with its doors open and thousands of dollars’ worth of equipment still inside.

It is alleged that this call was made in the middle of the project

According to Polanco, the landlord contacted immigration authorities after the work began.“We practically had a project to start today… When they started the work, the owner of the house called immigration,” he told the Spanish-language broadcaster. Univision. He also claimed that the homeowner has made his position clear regarding future work. “What she said to me, and what I said to one of the other people, is that if the immigrants come back again to complete the project, she will always call ICE.”

At the end of the livestream, Polanco pans the camera toward the house and points it at the woman outside.“She’s the same woman,” he says. “We came to fix up this woman’s house, and she invited us in. She is getting her house in order and yet she has hatred in her heart.”Some reports and online commentary have suggested that the call may have been timed closer to the completion of the work to avoid paying the alleged bill of approximately $10,000.

As clip spreads online, families speak out

Polanco later described the experience in an interview. ShopSaying that it had a deep emotional impact. He said, “Seeing it is not the same as experiencing it. I’ve seen a lot of videos, and sadly I had to experience it today, and I think it’s something that really affects you.”He said: “I am deeply saddened by the situation…Many Hispanics here in the United States feel oppressed. We leave our homes and don’t know if we will ever return.”Family members of those detained also spoke of problems. The wife of one of the workers said: “I feel very sad, desperate for my husband… We are here to move forward, not to do evil,” adding that she was five months pregnant and had two children at home.

Legal questions raised over homeowner’s actions

The incident has prompted a legal investigation. Aaron Reichlin-Melnick, a senior fellow at the American Immigration Council, said that if the allegations are true, the homeowner’s actions could fall under Maryland law, which prohibits the use of immigration threats to obtain labor or avoid payment.he cited Maryland Criminal Law Code Section 3-701, which prohibits obtaining services through threats related to immigration enforcement. If proven, such actions could amount to a serious crime.

Another said: “I would love it if they could charge him for knowingly hiring immigrant workers.” Others questioned whether they might have to face consequences for employing the workers in the first place. The roofing company involved has not commented publicly.

Mars’ rotation is accelerating at an unprecedented rate: Scientists explain why.

Mars' rotation is accelerating at an unprecedented rate: Scientists explain why

Mars is considered a quiet, or rather ‘dormant’ planet, which is cold, dusty and geologically not very active. But recent scientific findings have managed to change the way we view Mars in unexpected ways. Researchers have found that Mars is accelerating its rotation every year, causing small but significant increases in its day. Although the speed of rotation of Mars is incredibly low, its significance has managed to catch the interest of researchers all over the world. With highly accurate data collected by NASA’s InSight LanderNot only have researchers been able to confirm the motion, but they are now also able to understand the underlying causes of this phenomenon.

Rotation speed of Mars: what scientists discovered

The discovery was made possible through NASA’s InSight mission, which used a highly sophisticated instrument called Rotation and Internal Structure Experiment (RISE)To study the orbit of Mars. Through study,’Mars’ spin state and deep interior structure from InSight radio tracking,’ the team was able to determine that Mars’ spin speed is increasing by 4 milliseconds each year, which translates into a Martian day shortening by a fraction of a millisecond each year. Although this discovery may not seem very important, the level of accuracy required to make the discovery is impressive. According to Sébastien Le Maistre, the study’s lead scientist, “It takes a very long time and a lot of data to see these small changes.” It not only marks an impressive scientific discovery but also highlights the level of development in space observation technology.

Why is Mars spinning faster?

It was not immediately known what it might be. Initial theories were that perhaps a change in the mass distribution on Mars might be responsible. This can happen in many ways. Perhaps ice has accumulated on the polar caps of Mars. The ground may be slowly freezing due to previous ice layers. This could lead to changes in distribution on a large scale. This is because when this happens, Mars’ rotation speeds up. It is similar to an ice skater moving around on an ice rink. When they bring their legs inward, they move more quickly. More recent (2026) study by Advancing Earth and Space Sciences Hinted that something more complex is going on. This is because a massive clump of lighter elements rising within the Martian mantle could potentially be responsible. This is a negative mass anomaly that is accelerating Mars’ orbit. This is similar to pulling something inward while rotating.

What this means for Mars’ interior and evolution

Its implications extend far beyond the simple matter of rotation. If the mantle plume is indeed the cause of this movement, it suggests that the planet itself is not as dead as scientists had believed. It may actually be active below the surface. This activity may also extend to volcanic regions such as Tharsis, where some of the largest volcanoes in the Solar System can be found. Speaking about the significance of the discoveries made by the InSight probe, bruce bannerdt“It’s really cool to be able to get this latest measurement,” the InSight mission principal investigator said of the experience.

Why does Mars’ rotation matter for future missions?

The reason to know the rotation of Mars is not just academic; This has many implications. Knowing the rotation of Mars is important for navigation and landing missions. This is important for any future human missions to Mars.Small changes in the calculations of spacecraft and timing systems can be significant. Mars missions are becoming more and more sophisticated; Therefore, accuracy is important.

A planet more alive than we thought

Mars remains a wonder for scientists, revealing its hidden complexity. What was considered a stable world is now showing signs of subtle but significant change. The fast rotation is a small hint of a larger story of internal motion, long-lasting heat, and evolution.Mars may be a more dynamic world than anyone imagined, reminding us that even the quietest planets can hide powerful secrets within them.

India has started the process of leapfrogging from 5G to 6G: Scindia | india news

India has started the process of leapfrogging from 5G to 6G: Scindia

New Delhi: Communications Minister, India has started the process of leapfrogging from 5G to 6G Jyotiraditya Scindia Said on Thursday.“This process is being started today with respect to global standards of technology, interoperability. This is being done in the International Telecommunication Union and 3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Project), both of which are standard-setting bodies for the world. We see standards and implementation taking place only by 2030. So, we are still in a state of discussion. But the difference is that India was nowhere at the table with regard to global standard setting for telecommunications on 3G or 4G. “We made our first foray into 5G when we presented a proposal for ubiquitous connectivity around the world,” he said. This time, as far as 6G is concerned, “we are partners on that roundtable”, he said. “This is the first time in the history of independent India that the country is at the standard-setting table for the telecom technology that is being launched. We have established the India 6G alliance in 2024, implementing PM Modi’s early vision when 5G was not even fully launched post-Covid in 2023,” he said.He said that the India 6G alliance started with 14 members and now it has grown to 85 members. tnn
