शिकायत के आधार पर भोपा थाने में मुकदमा संख्या 78/2026 धारा 103(1), 352, 351(3), 3(5) बीएनएस के तहत दर्ज किया गया और पुलिस ने तुरंत जांच शुरू कर दी.

इसके बाद भी मृतक द्वारा कथित तौर पर उसके नाबालिग बेटे को ताने देकर परेशान किया जाता था। घटना वाले दिन खेत में चारा काटने के दौरान दोनों के बीच विवाद हो गया, जिसके बाद आरोपी ने अपने बेटे और भतीजे के साथ मिलकर अक्षय कुमार की गोली मारकर हत्या कर दी.
