wrong question india news

wrong question

Every fall, a familiar ritual is celebrated in living rooms around the world. Parents hover over their teens’ shoulders, keeping an eye on application portals with the vigilance of air traffic controllers. The question in the minds of these families is where will you go? -It is considered to be the most important outcome of a young person’s life. According to a growing crowd of teachers and admissions experts, this is also wrong. As Matt Symonds, who has spent decades studying global university admissions, often emphasizes, the process is less about any one outcome and far more about understanding the person behind the application. The college admissions industrial complex has, over several decades, accomplished something remarkable: It has convinced millions of families that a child’s value can be clearly expressed in the form of acceptance rates. In this narrative, a seventeen-year-old is essentially a portfolio of conditioned signals – grades, test scores, extra curriculars carefully crafted to suggest both breadth and depth, essays crafted to the point of translucency. The goal is to be readable to the admissions officers of the handful of schools whose rankings have acquired the cultural authority of theology. But rankings lie, or at least mislead. The experts who create them will tell you this much: There is no universally best university, only the university that is best for a specific student with specific needs, specific passions, and a specific temperament. A kid who thrives at a large research institution may wither at a small liberal arts college, and vice versa. Prestige is a signal designed for other people. Fit is a truth about you.The more devastating consequence of admission-mania is what it does in the years before application. A student who begins to strategize in ninth grade—who chooses activities not out of curiosity but for calculable gain—is learning something disturbing about how the world works. They’re learning that identity is a pitch, passion is a positioning tool, and authenticity is valuable primarily so long as it reads as authentic to a committee of strangers.Admissions officers, for their part, claim they can spot the difference. What they say they want – and there’s no reason to completely distrust them – is evidence of real commitment. No national championships in tennis, but true love for the game. There are not ten clubs listed on a resume, but two or three commitments pursued with sufficient depth to reveal something true about a person. They will tell you that the story behind the activity matters more than the activity itself. What does this mean for parents? This means, somewhat counter-intuitively, that the most strategic thing they can do is to stop being strategic. Encourage strange hobbies. Tolerate failed experiments. Let failure be educational rather than destructive. A teen who knows they can fall short and still be loved is a teen who has the courage to try something real – which, as it happens, is exactly what universities claim they’re looking for.Increasingly, forward-looking teachers and platforms like Sparkle are reinforcing this approach, where deeply personal attention to academics and SAT preparation quietly shapes a more confident and authentic student journey. The better question, the one that survives the admissions process and the four years that follow, is not where you are going, but who you are becoming. This is a question that actually has a meaningful answer.

UAE petrol prices April 2026: UAE announces petrol and diesel prices in April 2026 as rates rise by Dh2 per litre. world News

UAE announces petrol and diesel prices in April 2026 as rates rise by Dh2 per liter
Fuel prices in the UAE rose sharply in April 2026 as petrol rose above Dh3/image due to global oil volatility; file

The United Arab Emirates has officially announced petrol and diesel prices for April 2026, leaving motorists facing a massive increase of almost Dh2 per litre, one of the sharpest monthly hikes in recent years. The new rates were approved by the UAE Fuel Prices Committee and confirmed on March 31, 2026, in line with the country’s monthly fuel price revision mechanism. The surge reflects rising global crude oil prices amid ongoing geopolitical tensions and supply disruptions.

UAE fuel prices in April 2026

Driven by the global crude oil benchmark hitting multi-year highs, these changes represent one of the largest month-on-month increases in recent history. The official details of the new prices effective from April 1, 2026 are given below:

fuel grade March 2026 price (per litre) April 2026 price (per litre) price rise
super 98 Dh2.59 Dh3.39 +Dh0.80
special 95 Dh2.48 Dh3.28 +Dh0.80
E-Plus 91 Dh2.40 Dh3.20 +Dh0.80
diesel Dh2.72 Dh4.69 +Dh1.97

UAE rates rise due to global oil boom

The UAE’s fuel prices are directly linked to global oil markets, and the April increase reflects a sudden spike in crude oil prices around the world. In recent weeks, oil prices have hovered near $115-$120 per barrel due to rising geopolitical tensions. middle east and concerns over supply disruptions, particularly around major shipping routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.Market volatility has intensified due to ongoing regional conflict, which has pushed up refining and transportation costs globally. The price of diesel in particular has seen a sharp increase across the world, which is reflected in the latest UAE price.

UAE Monthly Review System

Since deregulation of fuel prices in 2015, the UAE has followed a market-linked pricing system. The UAE Fuel Price Committee reviews and announces updated rates at the end of each month based on the average global price of oil and refined fuel products. This mechanism ensures that local fuel prices reflect international market conditions with minimal delay. As a result, any sudden increase in global crude oil prices is immediately passed on to consumers, as seen in the April revision.

fuel price trends

Fuel prices in the UAE remained relatively stable for most of 2025 and early 2026, even falling during some months due to soft global oil demand. However, an upward trend began in March 2026, with petrol prices still below Dh2.60 per litre. Therefore, the April increase represents a sharp turnaround, taking petrol prices well above Dh3 per liter in the same revision cycle.

Scientists discover ‘hidden world’ 100 kilometers beneath Antarctica that could change climate predictions World News

Scientists discover 'hidden world' 100 kilometers beneath Antarctica that could change climate predictions

Scientists from the British Antarctic Survey have made a breakthrough in solving a decades-old geological mystery by identifying a large granite mass buried beneath the West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS). The team discovered the mystery after noticing some exotic (pink) stones located at the top of a black volcano within the Hudson Mountains. Next, they conducted state-of-the-art aerial gravity surveys and modern radiometric dating to establish how these ‘irregular’ boulders were tied to the huge, magmatic Jurassic-aged granite body (the ‘hidden giant’), which measured 100 kilometers across and covered a surface area almost half the size of Wales, extending to 7 kilometers depth beneath Pine Island Glacier. The incredible hardness of the hidden giant will also greatly influence the flow rate of sea ice, providing a new factor in the knowledge base used to predict global sea level rise due to the rate of ice melting around the world.

Origin of 175 million year old rocks found in Antarctica

It all started with a geological anomaly in the Hudson Mountains of West Antarctica, where exotic pink granite boulders were found on top of deep volcanic peaks. The pink granite boulders (‘irregular’) did not resemble the surrounding volcanic rock in any way and after much debate, scientists concluded that these boulders were ‘uprooted’ from the valley floor by a fairly thick ancient ice sheet and then deposited on top of the volcanic peaks when the ice receded. According to research published in Nature, using U-Pb zircon geochronology (radioactive dating), scientists determined that these rocks were about 175 million years old, dating back to the Jurassic period, when the supercontinent Gondwana began to break up.

How scientists discovered a 100-km-long granite mass beneath Antarctic ice

Because the source of the pink rocks was buried under miles of ice, the British Antarctic Survey used aerial geophysical surveys by flying Twin Otter aircraft equipped with geophysical instruments to conduct both gravity and magnetic surveys on Pine Island Glacier to define the density of the materials beneath. Ultimately, they discovered a giant granite body, or ‘pluton’, approximately 100 kilometers wide and 7 kilometers thick; The approximate area of the granite body is half that of Wales. This large block of granite is significantly harder and more stable than the surrounding sedimentary basins.

Why is the West Antarctic Granite Body important to climate models?

The discovery is important not only because of its geological significance, but also because it will impact climate science. Pine Island Glacier, one of the fastest melting glaciers in Antarctica, is one of the largest contributors to global sea level rise. The ‘hidden giant’, or the world’s largest granite formation, provides the bedrock support or structural skeleton for the ice sheet. Since granite is an exceptionally dense and hard bedrock, this would be a high-friction site where the glacier would grip the ground more tightly or create ‘sticky’ points in some places, slowing the movement of the glacier into the sea. The exact size and position of this granite structure will be a key variable in computer models that predict how much sea level rise will occur in the year 2100.

Granite bodies are a ‘missing link’ in Earth’s history

Furthermore, this granite body provides a glimpse of the history of Gondwana. According to a research paper published on USGS, the chemical composition of the granite boulders indicates that they were formed during a time of intense tectonic activity and rifting, thus providing geologists a more complete record of the ‘missing link’ in the West Antarctic Rift System. This confirms that this location was once an area of large amounts of magma that was injected into the Earth’s crust and cooled beneath the surface before being covered by the West Antarctic Ice Sheet millions of years ago.

IPL 2026: KKR increasing pressure on Cameron Green? Australia’s head coach expressed concern about the price tag

Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Cameron Green finds himself under scrutiny in IPL 2026, with questions being raised over his role and impact after the defeat to Mumbai Indians. However, Australia head coach Andrew McDonald has backed the 26-year-old, highlighting the weight of expectations that comes with being a high-priced all-rounder.

Green was bought by KKR for Rs 25.2 crore. Did not bowl in the opening match of the season at Wankhede, Where the KKR attack struggled to defend 220 runs. His absence as a bowling option was glaring as MI chased the target comfortably, exposing the lack of depth in KKR’s attack.

MI vs KKR, IPL 2026: Update | Achievement:

However, Andrew McDonald suggested that expectations from Green may be too high, while supporting the 26-year-old to find his balance soon.

Speaking on SEN Radio, McDonald said, “There are huge expectations within the IPL, and there are huge expectations from any all-rounder who shapes up the Australian team. It’s not unreasonable, but there is an expectation from all-rounders to contribute in a certain way.”

He said, “It’s almost as if they want his average to be below 45 with the bat and 30 with the ball. And there are very few who do that. I’m sure his career will go upwards… We know he is very good. He just has to balance all those expectations, and especially, play in all three formats, which is a significant challenge for any cricketer.”

Why is Cameron Green not bowling for KKR?

Questions raised over Green’s absence with the ball in the openerEspecially after KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane showed signs of improvement in the team combination after starting the bowling.

It was later clarified by Cricket Australia that Green is currently suffering from a back problem, which will keep him away from bowling for approximately 10 to 12 days. The KKR management is fully aware of the situation and their workload is being managed carefully.

This ban significantly affected KKR’s balance against MI, especially as the team is already missing key bowling options like Harshit Rana and Akash Deep, while Mathisha Pathirana is unavailable.

Without Green’s extra overs, KKR bowlers came under immense pressure. Varun Chakravarthy remained wicketless while Vaibhav Arora and Blessing Muzarabani were dismissed by the MI openers.

Green also performed well with the bat and scored 18 runs in 10 balls before being dismissed by Shardul Thakur.

Despite the underwhelming start, McDonald’s endorsement underscores the belief that Green’s long-term value goes beyond immediate returns. For KKR, his return as a complete all-round option could be crucial in restoring balance in the coming games.
