Mass arrests at London protests: 200 people, including musician Robert Del Naja, rounded up at Palestine Action rally

Mass arrests at London protests: 200 people, including musician Robert Del Naja, rounded up at Palestine Action rally

More than 200 people, including musician Robert Del Naja of the band Massive Attack, were arrested during a mass protest in central London against the ban on activist group Palestine Action. Hundreds of people defied police warnings and gathered at a demonstration in Trafalgar Square on Saturday. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that 212 individuals aged between 27 and 82 were detained for allegedly showing support for a banned organisation. Authorities said the protests “have the potential to be abusive rather than legitimate expression.”

Musicians are also among those detained

Del Naja, also known as 3D, was seen sitting among the protesters holding a sign that read, “I oppose genocide, I support Palestine action.” Officers later approached him, informed him of his arrest, and he was led away as fellow protesters cheered and raised their voices in support. In video clips circulated online, onlookers chanted enthusiastically as officers picked up the musician and took him away. Del Naja reportedly described his arrest as “unlawful” and had previously acknowledged concerns about possible consequences for his international touring career.

Scenes of defiance and disruption

The protest included a mix of participants, including elderly protesters sitting in camping chairs and others standing with signs. Several individuals were seen physically carried away by police, while some elderly protesters were taken away in police vans.As soon as the arrests were made, slogans of “Shame on you” started echoing. Witnesses also accused authorities of using excessive force in some cases, including dragging protesters without proper support. Some protesters wore symbolic costumes, including suffrage-style clothing and masks depicting political figures, while banners raised broader concerns about free speech and civil liberties.

Legal battle increases tension

The arrests come amid an ongoing legal dispute over the government’s decision to ban Palestine action. Earlier this year, the High Court ruled the ban illegal, forcing the police to briefly halt arrests. However, enforcement resumed after authorities launched an appeal, which is expected to take several months.Police say that despite ongoing court proceedings, expressing support for a banned organization is an offense under the Terrorism Act.

Organizers vow to continue resistance

The protest was organized by the campaign group Defend Our Juries, which described the vote as a sign that resistance to the ban remains “stronger than ever”.The group argues that the issue extends beyond a single organization and threatens broader rights of protest and free expression.Participants echoed similar sentiments, warning that a ban on one group could set a precedent to stifle dissent more widely.Former senior police officers noted the operational difficulty of handling large crowds willing to risk arrest. With hundreds of people involved, the situation posed logistical and reputational challenges to law enforcement.Observers also highlighted growing public sympathy towards the protesters, even as authorities continued to enforce the law.More than 3,000 people have been arrested since the Palestine crackdown was banned last year, according to police figures, with the majority of cases reported in London.

No forum to deal with misdeeds of arbitrators: Supreme Court judge india news

No forum to deal with misdeeds of arbitrators: Supreme Court judge

New Delhi: Supreme Court Justice BV Nagarathna on Saturday said mediation and arbitration have become an integral part of a modern and responsive justice system and should not be seen merely as an alternative to traditional litigation. However, he highlighted the absence of a forum to deal with complaints against arbitrators who, in most cases, are retired judges whom courts are reluctant to remove. “There is no forum where a complaint against an arbitrator’s misconduct is made except the court. And courts are very wary of changing arbitrators because many arbitrators are former judges, chief justices,” he said. He emphasized that for arbitration proceedings to be successful, there must be trust among the litigants and allegations of bias or misconduct can undermine confidence in the system. Speaking at the international conference on ‘Arbitration in the Age of Globalization’ organized by the Arbitration Council of India in the national capital, Justice Nagarathna said there has been a marked shift from traditional methods of dispute resolution towards alternative mechanisms such as mediation and arbitration. He said, “Disputes are not just about legal questions, but also about social, commercial and relational questions, which may require a more voluntary resolution than a court decision. Therefore, arbitration and mediation are not mere alternatives to litigation, but integral parts of a modern and responsive justice system.” Justice Nagarathna said arbitration has emerged as the most preferred method to resolve cross-border commercial disputes due to its advantages such as neutral forums, procedural flexibility, confidentiality and party autonomy.

Today’s Quote by Abraham Lincoln: “Character is like a tree, and reputation is like its shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing.” | world News

Today's Quote by Abraham Lincoln:
Today’s Quote by Abraham Lincoln

People are often evaluated based on what other people see or hear about them in their daily lives. The way people see and think about someone can affect how they are treated in society. But this view is not always a complete picture of who they really are. This is where Abraham Lincoln’s quote comes in handy. This makes it clear what is real and what is not.Abraham Lincoln was a great leader during one of the most difficult times in American history. He often spoke in a simple but important way. His words are important even today because they talk about basic human values. He uses a simple comparison to make a complex idea easier to understand. He says that character is like a tree and reputation is like its shadow. They are both related, but they are not the same. This idea is simple to understand, but it has a lot of meaning. It reminds people that what other people think is not always the whole truth. This also shows how important it is to pay more attention to your internal values than your external image. Let’s look at what this quote means and why it still matters today.

today’s thought By former US President Abraham Lincoln

“Character is like a tree, and reputation is like its shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing.”

Understanding the Meaning of Abraham Lincoln’s Quote

The quote uses a picture of nature to explain a human idea. A tree is solid, real and has depth. It grows larger over time and represents something that exists in its own right. On the other hand, shadow is just a reflection. It changes depending on lighting, angle and viewpoint.Lincoln is talking about a person’s true nature when he compares character to a tree. Honesty, integrity, and actions that reflect who a person really is are all parts of character. It grows over time and is created by doing the same thing over and over again. He says that reputation is like a shadow that reflects how other people see a person. This can change rapidly depending on what people think, hear or don’t know. It can’t always show the whole picture, just like a shadow.

Why is character more important than reputation?

People often care more about their reputation because it is easier to see. It affects how people accept you, how many job opportunities you have, and how people view you in public. But sometimes, reputations can be wrong. On the other hand, character remains the same even when no one is looking. It helps people make choices and act. Lincoln’s quote makes it clear that true value lies in character, not in what other people think of it.This idea is important because it shifts the focus from how things appear to how they really are. It encourages people to develop strong values rather than just worrying about how they look.

How is prestige built in society?

People often build their reputations based on how they behave in public, how they talk to others and how they interact with others. There are many things that can influence this, such as media, social networks, and personal relationships.Reputation can change rapidly because it is based on how people perceive things. An incident or misunderstanding can change the way people view someone. It is just like the shadow changes when the light changes.Lincoln’s comparison makes clear why reputation should not be considered the sole criterion for evaluating a person. It’s just a part, and it may not always be correct.

Role of Karmas in Character Building

Character is not built in a moment. It grows over time through regular actions. Every choice, whether big or small, affects who a person is.Being honest with the people you meet every day, being responsible at work, and treating others with respect are all parts of character. These traits may not be immediately apparent, but over time they will shape a person.Lincoln’s quote reminds us that character is what matters most. Reputation may follow, but that’s not what’s really going on.

Relevance of the quote to real life

You can use this idea in many parts of your life. At work people are often evaluated based on how well they do their job and how others view them. Reputation may help you get ahead, but character is what will help you succeed in the long run.In personal relationships, trust is built by doing the same thing over and over again. First impressions may shape people’s opinions, but over time, true character emerges.People often evaluate leaders on the basis of their reputation in public life. But history usually remembers them because of who they were and what they did.

A Simple Comparison That Explains a Complex Truth

One reason this quote is still popular is because it is simple. The picture of the tree and its shadow is easy to understand. But it does a good job of showing the difference between what is real and what we perceive to be real. The tree remains even when there is shadow. The tree remains the same, even if the shadow changes or goes away. In the same way, a person’s character is different from his reputation. This comparison helps people see that what other people think of them does not define who they really are.

Other famous quotes from Abraham Lincoln

  • “Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”
  • “Those who refuse to give freedom to others do not deserve it for themselves.”
  • “I’m a slow mover, but I never back down.”
  • “Whatever you are, be a good one.”

Why does this message still matter today?

In today’s world, where information spreads rapidly, reputations can change in an instant. Social media and other digital platforms make it easy for people to form opinions instantly. In such a situation the distinction between character and reputation becomes even more important.Lincoln’s quote reminds us that reputation may change how people see us, but it does not define who we are. The true value of a person lies in his actions, choices and honesty. This message remains important today because it speaks to a basic human need. People want to know who they really are, not just how others see them.

A conclusion from Lincoln’s perspective

The quote makes a clear point. Character is what really makes a person who he is, while reputation is what other people think of him. They are both related, but they are not the same.People can build a strong and stable identity by focusing on their character. Your character remains the same, but your reputation may change over time. It’s easy to see the difference from the words of Abraham Lincoln. They tell people to look beyond how they look and focus on what really makes them who they are.

6.5 years after partition, Jammu and Kashmir removed from Aadhaar records of Ladakh residents

Srinagar: Even after six years of bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories, people of Ladakh continue to show Jammu and Kashmir instead of Ladakh in their Aadhaar records. This has finally changed now. Residents of Ladakh can now check their identity in Aadhaar records with ‘Ladakh’ replacing ‘Jammu and Kashmir’ in the ‘State’ field. The long pending public demand was addressed after the intervention of Ladakh LG Vinay Kumar Saxena, who directed the UT administration to resolve the issue at the earliest. After this the administration took up the matter Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). The long awaited reform has now been successfully implemented.According to officials, the wrong representation in Aadhaar records was causing a lot of inconvenience to the people of Ladakh. They were facing difficulty in using Aadhaar as a valid document for identity and address while availing various services, besides facing problems related to Aadhaar linked records and progress reports. To solve the problem, the UT administration, in coordination with UIDAI, devised a mechanism to update the ‘State’ field centrally. Instead of requiring each resident to visit Aadhaar centers individually for correction, the records were updated based on pin codes specific to Ladakh. These PIN codes were verified in coordination with the Department of Posts and shared with UIDAI.Officials said residents can now easily download their updated e-Aadhaar from the UIDAI portal, and those who want to get a PVC Aadhaar card can order it online by paying a nominal fee.In a statement, LG Saxena said the development will greatly benefit the residents of Ladakh by removing procedural hurdles and enabling seamless access to services. “Ensuring that the identity of Ladakh is accurately reflected in official records is not only an administrative necessity, but also a matter of identity and convenience for our people,” he said.

Huge relief: Sanju Samson arrives in yellow as CSK beats DC to end domestic curse

Brief Scores: Chennai Super Kings (212/2 in 20 overs) beat Delhi Capitals (189-all out in 20 overs) by 23 runs at Chepauk. highlighted | Achievement:

When the wait was finally over, there was celebration in Chepauk and across Chennai. After six consecutive defeats at home, Chennai Super Kings had something to be happy about, and they did it the hard way, with a complete performance.

Sanju Samson was standing at the center of it. He looked poor at finding timing and flow in the early part of the season, but everything clicked into place on Saturday night. Opening the innings, he played with clarity and intent, remaining unbeaten on 115 off 56 balls, taking CSK to 212 for 2. This was his first century for the franchisehis fourth in IPLAnd it registered a 23-run win over Delhi Capitals, which was CSK’s first win of IPL 2026.

Samson sets the tone

Samson immediately set the tone. He took command in the powerplay and scored 45 of CSK’s 61 runs in the first six overs. Mukesh Kumar’s early boundaries inspired him to move forward, but more than the runs, it was his way of moving that was most special. His footwork was decisive, his head was steady and the bat was moving freely. There was a sense of assurance that was missing in the first season.

The Chepauk crowd responded in the same manner. When he completed his half-century in just 26 balls, more than 30,000 fans started applauding him. When he completed his century in 52 balls, the noise turned into slogans in his name. One of the standout shots was a clean strike at extra cover off Kuldeep Yadav, a shot that won him confidence on the night.

A moment of luck came when he was dropped by Pathum Nissanka off Axar Patel on 55, but Samson made sure Delhi had to pay for it. He didn’t slow down, lost form and took the innings deep, making it one of CSK’s most complete batting performances this season.

Ayush Mhatre continued to impress at the other end. The young batsman played with maturity beyond his years and scored 59 runs on 36 balls. He and Samson put on a 113-run partnership for the second wicket in a little over 11 overs, a partnership that laid the foundation for a big score. Mhatre mixed caution with aggression, choosing his moments and finding boundaries with ease in the first. Shivam Dubey is being retired to allow To play the last role.

Dubey added to the excitement with a quick cameo at the end of the innings, taking CSK past 200. Ruturaj Gaikwad, though unable to accelerate, still played a part in the opening stand of 62, largely inspired by Samson’s aggressive approach. CSK never lost momentum throughout the innings, which had cost them in the previous matches.

Capitals missed another goal

If 212 seemed strong, Delhi Capitals made it achievable with a blistering start. KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka came out with intent and reached 61 runs in just five overs. For a short while, CSK were under pressure, and memories of recent games came back fresh.

But change came quickly. Nissanka, who was already out, could not take advantage of this and was caught by Anshul Kamboj in the circle. Leading at 61 for two in 5.2 overs, Delhi still had a platform to go, but CSK tightened their grip from there.

The bowlers made clever adjustments. Jamie Overton, Khaleel Ahmed and Kamboj began to attack the red clay surface hard, providing strong bounce and forcing the batsmen to make space. The plan was clear and it worked. Sameer Rizvi and Axar Patel fell trying to hit hard shots on balls that pitched awkwardly, while Sarfaraz Khan produced a sharp full-length diving catch at point to remove Axar and take the momentum further.

Delhi still had the experience of David Miller and the form of Tristan Stubbs, but Overton’s magic broke down their resistance. His hard-length delivery which hit the top of Miller’s stumps was a crucial moment, and he returned later to remove the stumps as well. Overton took 4 for 18, his best performance in the IPL and his standout bowling performance of the season so far.

Debutant Gurjapaneet Singh followed the same approach and bowled well, while Khaleel and Kamboj kept the pressure on from the other end. CSK were quick in the field, cutting singles and supporting their bowlers throughout. Till the end of the powerplay, they remained in control and did not allow Delhi to rebuild.

Tristan Stubbs fought back with 60 off 38 balls to try and keep the target alive, but the frustration was palpable when it ended. After being dismissed, Stubbs waved his helmet as he entered the dressing room, a clear indication of how important the moment was and how disappointed he was at not being able to complete the job.

Nitish Rana, coach Hemang Badani and Karun Nair were seen discussing with the fourth umpire, clearly unhappy with how things unfolded in the closing stages. On air, Simon Doull reported that Stubbs had been refused a change of gloves at the end of the previous over.

This is where the chase started. The asking rate kept rising and wickets kept falling at the other end, leaving a lot to be desired. What once looked like a manageable target soon turned into a melee as Delhi lost their way in the middle overs and were bowled out for 189, suffering their second consecutive defeat.

For CSK, it was as complete a performance as they could have expected. The batting had authority, the bowling had purpose and the fielding matched intent. More importantly, it brought confidence back into the group after a difficult start to the season.

And fittingly, that night was Samson’s. After three quiet visits and a lot of questions, he responded in the best way he could, by running. His unbeaten 115 not only took the innings forward but also improved the atmosphere of the team and the stands.
