Exclusive Interview: Edoardo Mortara shines for Mahindra Racing this season, says
Edoardo Mortara is second in the Formula E drivers’ standings. (Image credit: Instagram)

Edoardo Mortara has been performing tremendously since his explosive start to the season. Mahindra Racing has delivered a top-notch performance so far and currently leads the championship from the front row, just eleven points behind Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein. After finishing in the top six in the last five races and achieving two podiums in them, one in Mexico City and the other in Jeddah, his consistency on the track makes the Swiss racer dominant this season. Needless to say, Mortara is proving that he is no easy mortal among his competitors as he keeps his eyes on the prize. In an exclusive interview with TimesofIndia.com, Mortara talks about his success so far and what lies behind such grit and determination. He also talked about his other interests in life and his thoughts on retirement, which is not on his mind right now. Part:With two back-to-back poles and two podiums in just five races, you’re already on a roll this season. You are also close to leading the championship. Describe the feeling.First of all, I’m very happy that we started the season strong. It’s always good to compete at the front and be able to score good points, not only for me but also for the team.Good results encourage everyone in the team. For me personally, this is very rewarding because it proves that the entire team, including myself, is going in the right direction with the development that we have been implementing for the last three years. You missed the title twice. What’s the outlook for this season? Are we already talking a Season 12 winner? We’ve only done five races, so it’s still a very long season. As I said, we have started quite strong, but most of the race is still ahead of us. In a championship like Formula E, it is very important to keep your feet on the ground and try to make the most of each race weekend. What matters is being among the top guys at the end of the season, not after five races.Have you made significant changes to your driving style or work behind the scenes, the results of which are now evident on the track? As drivers, we are always trying to maximize the performance of the package we are driving. It is very important to adapt your driving style based on what you have available to get the most out of it. So every year, every race, every corner, I’m trying to adapt to a specific driving style rather than stick to it. To be a good racing driver, you have to be able to adapt to whatever is given to you.How is Mahindra Racing treating you as a driver? How much credit goes to the team when a driver shines on the track? In motorsport, the package has a huge impact on the results you achieve. Mahindra Racing has been treating me well, especially this season because we have been able to perform very strongly. Without a strong car and a strong team, it is impossible for a driver to shine. And often the opposite is also true: When the package isn’t the best, it becomes difficult for the driver to shine as well. You are one year younger than 40. How long do you aim to continue competing, and what do you want to do after retirement? For me, it’s not really about age, it’s about performance. I still feel like I’m competing at a very high level and I think the results reflect that. What’s important for me is to keep training the way I am and make sure my motivation remains high. If I can do those things then I am confident that I will continue to perform well.I haven’t really thought about retirement yet because I am very involved in the Mahindra Racing project, and at the moment I would be most happy to be successful with the team. What do you like to do when you’re not running? When I’m not racing, I spend a lot of time training; It’s a big part of my life outside of racing. I am also involved in some other projects. Over the past few years, I’ve been doing a little work in real estate, and I also have a background in finance, so I stay pretty busy even when I’m off the track. Also read: Antonio Felix da Costa and Mitch Evans present the Formula E Oscars, awards for Funniest Driver, Toughest Overtake and more

‘Pay attention to gays in Hormuz, not just the Strait of Hormuz’: No Kings protesters’ bizarre comments go viral world News

'Pay attention to gays in Hormuz, not just the Strait of Hormuz': No Kings protesters' bizarre comments go viral

On March 29, 2026, “No Kings” protests took place in the United States and parts of Western Europe, with thousands of people protesting President Trump’s foreign policy, particularly the rising tensions with Iran over the Strait of Hormuz. Organizers framed it as a movement for democracy, peace, and civil rights. Presumably, all these things were for someone. For street interviewer Lionel, known online as No Cap on God (@Nocapongod_), it was also an opportunity to ask some very simple questions. The replies that followed have been shared by everyone from regular Twitter users to Ted Cruz.

From ‘gays of hormuz‘Iran supports LGBT’ claims: Bizarre comments go viral

Lionel’s initial bet was superficially absurd. Approaching one protester, he asked if it was “a little bit homophobic” that global attention was focused on the Strait of Hormuz rather than the homosexuals of Hormuz. The protester immediately agreed. completely. Without any hesitation.“Yes, I agree. Yes, definitely,” she said before launching into a thoughtful explanation of how “Historically, gays have always been very discriminated against, which is wrong on many levels. Even in war.”To be clear: Homosexuals of Hormuz do not exist. The Strait of Hormuz is a real and important waterway through which about 20% of the world’s oil supply passes. It has been at the center of US-Iran tensions for months. There are no gays in Hormuz. No injustice is being done to them. They are a pun.The protesters did not appear to be considering this possibility. Instead, he called for government reform and public education to deal with the imaginary crisis, with the same conviction one might bring to a real geopolitical issue.Lionel impressively kept a straight face the entire time. Whether the same can be said for the Strait of Hormuz is less certain. If the first protester set the tone, a self-described straight male ally raised the stakes considerably.Upon learning of the plight of the homosexuals of Hormuz, again, not anecdotal, he declared himself constitutionally and morally obliged to act.“I’m a straight man. I’m an ally, man,” he said with the seriousness of a man announcing his intention to run for office. “They are heading to the Strait of Hormuz but they are not willing to protect the gays of Hormuz. This is not good.”At some point during the interview, a small group began chanting: “Free the homosexuals of Hormuz! The homosexuals will refuse to leave themselves behind!”This mantra was apparently spontaneous. It was obviously honest. And no one involved apparently thought to ask where the homosexuals of Hormuz were actually located, what they needed to be liberated from, or whether they were consulted on the matter. The aide also offered, without prompting, that the area could “definitely turn into Fire Island”, a suggestion that reflects a level of urban planning optimism rarely seen in foreign policy discussions of the Middle East.

Nockings: Free the Homosexuals of Hormuz

Iran is a feminist paradise, according to anti-war protest participants

Lionel then turned his attention to a man waving an Iranian flag and asked what he thought about America’s complicated relationship with Tehran.“I think America hates them because Iran is very feminist,” the man explained.“There’s no better place to be a woman than here in Iran,” a companion enthusiastically agreed, adding, “Here’s the United States, a country where women can drive, vote, appear in public without mandatory dress codes, and have legal recourse without the permission of a male guardian.”In contrast, Iran is currently one of the most restrictive countries on earth for women’s rights. The country has seen years of protests by Iranian women demanding basic freedoms, which are often brutally suppressed. The “Women, Life, Freedom” movement, which emerged after the death of Mahsa Amini in 2022, remains one of the most significant feminist rebellions of the modern era. It did not appear that any of this was information that the protesters had to face. The matter did not stop here. When Lionel asked about LGBT rights in Iran, a nearby protestor said that Ayatollah Khamenei was “very pro-LGBT” and there was even internal discussion about the next supreme leader being “a gay person”.For context: Homosexuality is illegal in Iran and punishable by death. The Islamic Republic has executed individuals for homosexual relations. To anyone’s knowledge, the Ayatollah has not expressed pro-LGBT sentiments. Nobody pushed back. Nobody checked the facts. Lionel simply moved on to the next question.

guillotine section (non-violent)

Perhaps the most structurally interesting part of the interview came when Lionel asked one particularly enthusiastic protester what he thought should happen to political opponents. The protestors had ideas.“Donald Trump will be the first,” he said. Stephen Miller in second place. However, the guillotine must be deliberately dulled before use, specifically so that the miller can “warm it up.” Ivanka Trump was mentioned. Eric Trump was mentioned. Melania Trump got partial, terms-unclear relief. The discussion over who would go in what order and with what blade specifications lasted a surprisingly long time, ending, without any irony, with the protester’s affirmation that he believed in nonviolence. When asked directly, he said, “Yes.”It is worth noting that calling for someone’s execution by guillotine and believing in nonviolence are, in most philosophical traditions, considered mutually exclusive positions. This demonstrator appears to have found a way to put the two together, which is either a remarkable feat of cognitive flexibility or a sign that the question was not fully processed.Lionel did not point this out. He thanked the man and moved ahead.

Venezuela, Cuba and China Fan Club

Elsewhere in the protests, a different set of conversations about the government’s preferred systems were unfolding, in particular, at an event taking place in a country that allows such conversations to take place freely in public. One protester said she admired China’s political system because its citizens receive healthcare, housing and education. When Lionel asked whether she would be willing to sacrifice some democracy for those gains, she responded by pointing to the arrests of activists as evidence that America was already not very democratic. Then she said in the same breath that she was a lesbian and would not date a capitalist. These two facts were only closely related, but together they painted a portrait of a man with very clearly defined values and a dating pool that appeared to be narrowing dramatically.Another protester defended Cuba and Venezuela, arguing that if socialism was destined to fail, the US should leave those countries alone to fail naturally. He noted without apparent self-awareness that he used to have a corporate job and had recently paid sixteen dollars for a salad at Sweetgreen. His proposed solution: The government should simply provide salads. This, depending on your economic politics, is either a radical reimagining of the welfare state or a very expensive way to think about lunch.

Venezuelan complexity

In a turn in which Lionel appeared to move with the ease of a man who has ceased to be surprised by anything, the protest also included a group of Venezuelan demonstrators who were there to protest against Maduro’s regime, a situation that put them directly at odds with the nearby Communist Party.“Those Venezuelans are traitors,” declared one protester, as real Venezuelans marched a few yards away to liberate their own country from the government this protester appeared to admire. The irony of calling people traitors for opposing an authoritarian government oppressing them, while participating in a protest to oppose authoritarianism, was not commented on by anyone present.Lionel stepped forward.

What does this really tell us?

It would be easy and obviously catchy to present this video as pure comedy. And it is, objectively, a lot of fun. The Gage of Hormuz chant alone is a piece of casual performance art that no satirist could have written. But there’s something really worth checking out underneath it all. These were not marginal figures. They were ordinary people who probably came with good intentions to protest something they felt strongly about. The problem is that “feeling strongly” and “knowing what you’re talking about” turned out to be very different things. The protesters, who could not locate the Strait of Hormuz on a map, were passionate about foreign policy. Protesters who believed Iran was a feminist utopia were marching for women’s rights. The protesters calling for the guillotine reaffirmed their belief in nonviolence.Isolation is not unique to one side of the political aisle. Interviewing people sitting in the street at any major protest of any ideological nature produces a certain percentage of people who are more committed to the energy of a movement than to its specifics. What made Lionel’s footage so shareable was the particular flavor of confident mistake on display, the complete absence of doubt, even when agreeing that torture was being done on an imaginary waterway.Ted Cruz shared the clip. Brit Hume called similar footage “priceless”. The right side had a field day.

Lionel and the Art of Saying Nothing

What makes No Cap on God’s interview style particularly effective, and particularly devastating, is what he doesn’t do.He doesn’t argue. That doesn’t heal. He does not smile perceptively or make editorial comments. He simply asks the next question with the same flat, serious delivery, creating a space in which people confidently fill the silence with what they believe to be true. It is, in its own way, a masterclass in letting a subject reveal itself fully on its own terms. The Gaze of Hormuz bit doesn’t work because Lionel set the trap, but because the trap wasn’t needed. He presented an absurdity, and his interviewers accepted it sincerely, elaborated on it, chanted about it, and pledged their allyship to it.Meanwhile, the Strait of Hormuz remains a real geopolitical flashpoint with real consequences for global oil supplies, regional stability, and the lives of real people, including LGBT individuals living under an Iranian government that many of these protesters have described as progressive.Homosexuals of Hormuz could not be reached for comment. They don’t exist.

He also urged people to defeat BJP in the elections so that they do not have to stand in queues in future.Later, addressing another rally in Burwan, the Chief Minister alleged large-scale deletion of voters’ names in several constituencies. He claimed that around 30,000 names have been removed in Dinhata and around 40,000 names in his own constituency Bhabanipur. However, Banerjee insisted that these developments would not help the BJP win the elections and asked people to consider her as its candidate in all 294 assembly constituencies.

Indian Olympic Association forms ad-hoc panel to run Indian Equestrian Federation

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has formed a four-member ad-hoc committee to run the affairs of the Equestrian Federation of India (EFI), acting on the directions of the Delhi High Court, which had called for the restoration of democratic governance in the sport.

According to the IOA office order dated March 27, the ad-hoc panel will be chaired by Yashodhara Raje Scindia, while Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) Director (Governance) Francisco Lima, advocate Vidushpat Singhania and Colonel Ashok Yadav will serve as members.

The IOA said the committee has been constituted with immediate effect to “administer and govern the EFI” and initiate a reform process to conduct free elections and establish a duly elected executive body.

This development follows the Delhi High Court’s February 18 judgment in which it had directed the IOA to form an ad-hoc committee, noting that the tenure of the EFI Executive Committee had ended in September 2023 and there is no electoral mandate to continue it now.

Elections in the EFI have been pending ever since, prompting judicial intervention.

The court had earlier allowed the reinstatement of the then Executive Committee as a stop-gap arrangement in the lead-up to the Paris 2024 Olympics to ensure continuity in athlete participation, while underlining that a permanent solution must be pursued.

As per the IOA order, the ad-hoc committee will act as a caretaker and transitional body with full administrative, financial and regulatory control, including operation of EFI’s accounts, conduct of competitions and monitoring of selection processes.

It is also tasked with aligning the EFI’s constitution with the National Sports Administration Act, 2025 and 2026 regulations, restructuring its membership structure and conducting free and fair elections.

The panel will have to finalize the constitution and bylaws within two months and notify the elections within 30 days thereafter.

The IOA clarified that the ad-hoc committee will remain in place only until the newly elected executive committee takes charge, after which it will be dissolved.

Some of the EFI EC decisions have recently come under scrutiny, such as sending rape accused Tarsem Singh Waraich on bail in a sexual assault case, after the head coach of the Indian tent pegging team for the World Cup qualifiers in Jordan in January.

Indian-American doctor reacts to Oracle layoffs, says every H-1B should be sent back home

भारतीय मूल के अमेरिकी डॉक्टर ने ओरेकल की छंटनी पर प्रतिक्रिया व्यक्त करते हुए कहा कि प्रत्येक एच-1बी को घर वापस भेजा जाना चाहिए

Internet personality Mike Cernovich questions how many H-1Bs Oracle has after the IT company announced layoffs of 30,000 employees worldwide.

IT firm Oracle announced brutal layoffs affecting 30,000 employees worldwide in an email at 6 a.m. on March 31. Informing employees that March 31 was their last working day, the email said the elimination of the role was part of a broader organizational change. The major layoffs raised the important question of ‘offshoring’ and many people on social media asked how many H-1B visa holders Oracle has. H-1B is a special visa program for hiring foreign workers with specific qualifications, but this program has emerged as the most controversial as companies have been accused of abusing the visa program to hire foreigners at low wages and lay off Americans. Indian-American doctor Pradeep J. Shankar weighed in on the Oracle layoff discussion and said he thinks the H-1B discussion on social media is biased, but he believes every single H-1B should be sent back before a company starts laying off Americans. He was responding to right-wing media personality Mike Cernovich who asked: “How many H-1Bs does Oracle have?”“I think the H1 discussion has not been completely fair or honest, but I completely agree that every single H1 should be sent back before Americans are laid off. No more H1 applications, at least for the time being, Shankar wrote. Oracle India also announced layoffs of 12,000 employees in India. Siddhartha, co-founder of the Indian American Advocacy Council, disagreed with the statement that Oracle laid off Americans because of H-1B and said that when layoffs happen across departments, it affects both Americans and visa holders. Siddharth wrote, “I understand the sentiment but this won’t work. When there is a layoff it affects both the Americans and the visa holders of that specific department. An H1B software engineer cannot be fired as American HR has been fired.” Responding to Cernovich’s question, several people said that Oracle America sponsors approximately 2000-3000 H-1B visa holders. And it cannot be solely blamed for the shootings of 30,000 people worldwide. “So an H1 director needs to be fired because they are firing an intern,” one wrote to Dr. Shankar. “Removing the H1B with Americans would send all the jobs to India, China, and other countries. There is already documented evidence: The more unreasonable barriers you put on the H1B, the more tech jobs will move out. How does this actually help the US economy or American workers?” Another wrote.

‘Who is the biggest plaintiff? ‘Cost should be imposed’: SC imposes Rs 25,000 fine on Center in CISF dismissal case | india news

'Who is the biggest plaintiff? 'Cost should be imposed': SC imposes Rs 25,000 fine on Center over CISF dismissal case

The Supreme Court on Wednesday imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the Center challenging the Punjab and Haryana High Court order which had set aside the dismissal of a CISF officer, saying the matter involved unnecessary litigation.Upholding the High Court judgment, a bench of Justices BV Nagarathna and Ujjal Bhuyan also directed that the officer be paid his outstanding salary, holding that the punishment imposed was disproportionate.Justice Nagarathna was quoted by PTI as saying, “We fail to understand why the Union of India has challenged the order of the Division Bench of the High Court. We hear the pending cases. Who is the biggest litigant? Fine should be imposed.”He said, “Why can’t there be a view that if the High Court finds it inconsistent and grants relief by setting aside all the orders, we will not go to the Supreme Court? He took medical leave but he also faced the threat of fleeing with his family.” Referring to his recent comments at a conference organized by the Supreme Court Bar Association, Justice Nagarathna said the court has taken the comments regarding the role of the government in pending cases very seriously.“It wasn’t just going to some resort and coming back. We prepared, we did the homework. We talked. Don’t forget,” he said. Two charges were filed against the CISF officer, being absent from duty for 11 days and indiscipline for allegedly leaving Mumbai with a woman, the daughter of a CISF constable, and attending her wedding with his younger brother. However, the High Court held that the 11-day absence was justified as the officer was on sanctioned medical leave during that period.Justice Nagarathna noted that during the disciplinary proceedings, the woman involved had appeared and stated that she had no complaints against the respondent-petitioner in respect of the allegation that she had eloped with his brother. The High Court said, “Otherwise it is not in dispute that the brother of the respondent-petitioner was married to the woman in question. Therefore, it is found that there was in fact no misconduct on the part of the respondent for which he could be removed from service.”
