Naman Awards 2026: BCCI awards Cricketer of the Year award to Shubman Gill and Smriti Mandhana
Shubman Gill and Smriti Mandhana were awarded the top individual honors at the Naman Awards 2026 in New Delhi. On Sunday, March 15, Gill received the prestigious Polly Umrigar Award for the Best International Cricketer in men’s cricket, while Mandhana was named the BCCI’s Best International Cricketer in women’s cricket.
For Gill, it was his second Cricketer of the Year award after winning it for the first time in 2023 following his stellar performances with the bat for India. As an opening batsman at that time, he scored 1,584 runs in 29 ODIs at an average of 63.36 and a strike rate of 105.45, including five centuries.
For Mandhana, this was the fifth time she won the award after 2018, 2020-21, 2021-22, 2023-24 and 2024-25.
Gill emerged for India
Gill has had a stellar 2025 for India, especially in the longer formats, and has established himself as one of the team’s most reliable batsmen. On the England tour, he led from the front in the five-Test series. Became India’s highest run scorer with 754 runs in 10 innings. At an average of 75.40, which included four centuries and a top score of 269.
At one point, he had scored 585 runs in the first two Test matches alone, his first Test series as captain after replacing Rohit Sharma.
Gill also played a key role in India’s victorious Champions Trophy 2025 campaign. He entered the tournament as the world No. 1 ranked ODI batsman and made an immediate impact by scoring an unbeaten 101 against Bangladesh in India’s opening match. He finished the tournament with 188 runs, making him India’s third-highest run-scorer, cementing his position at the top while winning the title.
However, after being left out of India’s squad for the T20 World Cup as the selectors opted for a different combination at the top, Gill has not enjoyed the best start to 2026. Nevertheless, the BCCI made sure to honor his contribution at the Naman Awards last year, a fitting recognition of his impact in India’s Test and ODI setup.
