After 4 days of roll freeze in Bengal, tribunal will start hearing from today

Kolkata: Four days after the voter lists for the second phase of Bengal Assembly elections were frozen on Thursday, 19 appellate tribunals are set to begin hearing appeals on inclusion or exclusion of voters at the Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee National Institute of Water and Sanitation in Kolkata from Monday. Tribunal constituted and notified by the Election Commission on March 20 Supreme Court The order has so far disposed of only four appeals that were specifically mentioned before the SC. Out of 60 lakh cases under adjudication, a little more than 27 lakh names have been excluded from the supplementary list. Affected people can approach the tribunal for relief. On Sunday, a team of retired judges along with Chief Secretary Dushyant Nariyala and Calcutta HC Chief Justice Sujoy Paul visited the institute to review the arrangements. Sources said 119 computers have been installed and around 200 micro-observers will monitor the process. Each tribunal will be supported by 4-5 staff members, said an official, who underwent training on Friday on document scrutiny and procedural requirements. Many people are gathering at Joka Institute campus to raise complaints.
