Trump says US, Qatar not involved in attack on Iran’s gas field

JERUSALEM/WASHINGTON: Israel’s attack on an Iranian gas field on Wednesday was coordinated with the US but was unlikely to be repeated, three Israeli officials said Wednesday, despite President Donald Trump saying he did not know about it in advance. The attack on Iran’s South Pars gas field followed Iranian air strikes on energy infrastructure in Qatar and across the Middle East, marking the largest escalation in the US-Israeli war on Iran.On Wednesday night, Trump said in a social media post that Washington “knew nothing about this particular attack”. Three Israeli officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss private discussions, said Thursday that Israel was not surprised by Trump’s comments. He described the situation as similar to what happened several weeks ago after Israel attacked a fuel depot in Iran. After those attacks, Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth said that “in that particular case they were not our attacks”.Trump said on Thursday that he has asked his ally, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, not to further attack gas fields in Iran. “I told him, don’t do it, and he won’t do it,” Trump told reporters at the White House. “We have a very good relationship. It’s coordinated, but sometimes he does things that the United States opposes,” Trump said.In a social media post on Wednesday, Trump said Israel had “violently attacked,” attacking a “relatively small portion” of the territory. Qatar also accused Israel of attacking South Pars. “The United States knew nothing about this particular attack, and the country of Qatar was not involved in any way, shape, or form, nor did it have any idea that it was about to occur,” Trump wrote. He accused Iran of retaliating “unfairly and wrongly” against Qatar’s liquefied natural gas facilities. Iran uses most of its natural gas domestically, but Qatar is the world’s third-largest exporter of liquefied natural gas. The South Pars is part of a larger reservoir that is shared between Qatar and Iran.In his post, Trump vowed that there would be “no further attacks by Israel” on South Pars unless Iran attacks Qatar’s energy facilities. If that happened, he said, the US would “massively blow up” the oil field. Trump said, “I do not want to authorize this level of violence and destruction because it will have a long-term impact on Iran’s future, but if Qatar’s LNG is attacked again, I would not hesitate to do so.”Since the Israeli attack on South Pars, Iranian attacks have caused extensive damage to the world’s largest gas plant in Qatar, targeted a refinery in Saudi Arabia and forced the United Arab Emirates to close gas facilities.Following Iran’s attacks, Gulf Arab countries sought clarification from the Trump administration, with one country contacting US Central Command, a regional source familiar with the matter said. The Pentagon’s Middle East (West Asia) command told the country it was not informed in advance about the Israeli attack, the source said. The person spoke on condition of anonymity and declined to name the country involved. That country then contacted Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, who said that although the attack was not a joint US-Israeli operation, Washington was informed about it ahead of time, the source said. Israel has not publicly accepted responsibility for the attack. The US and Israel have repeatedly tried to highlight their close coordination in their joint air strikes on Iran, but officials from both sides have acknowledged that their objectives were not the same. On Thursday, US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said at a House Intelligence Committee hearing that while Israel has focused on “disabling the Iranian leadership”, the United States has focused on destroying Iran’s ballistic missile program and its navy. agencies

Need for indigenous drone production ecosystem for strategic autonomy: Rajnath india news

Need for indigenous drone production ecosystem for strategic autonomy: Rajnath

New Delhi: Defense Minister -Rajnath Singh Thursday stressed the urgent need to create a drone production ecosystem in the country to ensure strategic autonomy, enhance defense preparedness and make the country self-reliant in the field in view of the current geopolitical uncertainties.“India must work in mission mode to emerge as a global hub of indigenous drone manufacturing in the next few years,” Rajnath said during the inaugural session of the National Defense Industry Conclave here.He said the ongoing conflicts ranging from Russia-Ukraine to tensions between Iran and Israel are proof that drone and counter-drone technologies will play an important role in future warfare and ‘self-reliance’ in drone manufacturing is essential not only at the product level, but also at the component level.“From the drone mold to its software, engines and batteries, everything must be manufactured in India. This is no easy task. In most countries where drones are manufactured, a significant number of critical components are currently imported from China,” he said.Rajnath said building the defense industrial ecosystem of any country depends on the contribution of large industries, MSMEs, startups and innovators, but it is also driven by a clear policy of the government to meet the specific defense needs of the country. While he called for active contribution from the private sector, he extended full support to the government to transform India into a global hub for indigenous drone manufacturing. The Minister described iDEX (Innovation for Defense Excellence) and ADITI (Accelerating Development of Innovative Technologies with iDEX) as game-changer initiatives through which start-ups, innovators and MSMEs are provided the opportunity to develop novel solutions to meet the specific requirements of the Defense Forces. He said that “As of February 2026, 676 startups, MSMEs and individual innovators have joined the defense innovation ecosystem since the inception of iDEX in 2018. Overall, 548 contracts have been signed; and 566 challenges have been launched.” Of these, 58 prototypes have been approved for procurement, worth approximately Rs 3,853 crore, he said.Rajnath said, “Additionally, 45 procurement contracts worth approximately Rs 2,326 crore have already been signed. These figures demonstrate that innovation is gradually translating into tangible products and technologies, and the role played by our startups and MSMEs in this transformation is becoming increasingly strong.”

Asked to work on Eid Ul Fitr 2026? Get 50% extra payment; Know your rights and compensation as per UAE law

Asked to work on Eid Ul Fitr 2026? Get 50% extra payment; Know your rights and compensation as per UAE law
Working on Eid Al Fitr 2026 in UAE? Know your legal rights and compensation in the Emirates

As Eid As Ul Fitr is around the corner and millions of people in the UAE are preparing for the celebration, there is an urgent question floating around among workers: Can your employer ask you to work in a public place Holiday And if so, what are your rights? The short answer is yes, you may be asked to do work but not without compensation. This year, Eid Al Fitr will be celebrated across the UAE on March 20. With increased economic activity during Eid, retail rush, demand for hospitality and essential services running at full capacity, thousands of workers may find themselves at work, but under UAE labor law, this comes with strict protections and clear rights.

The UAE rule is simple: compensation for work must be paid on Eid al Fitr 2026

Under UAE labor law, public holidays such as Eid Al Fitr are fully paid days off for employees. However, if an employer expects an employee to work on such a day, the law provides two clear options:

  • A substitute day off (compensatory leave)
  • Or extra pay, your regular salary plus at least 50% of your basic Salary for that day

This means that it is not illegal to work on Eid but it is illegal to work without compensation.

What the extra payment for Eid al Fitr 2026 actually looks like in the UAE

The compensation structure is straightforward but often misunderstood. If you work on Eid, you are entitled to:

  • Your full normal pay for the day, plus
  • Additional 50% of your basic daily wage

Alternatively, your employer may offer a day off in lieu, which must be paid in at a later date. This dual-option system allows businesses to operate during peak periods and ensures that employees are fairly rewarded.

Can your employer force you to work on Eid al Fitr 2026 in UAE?

This is where many employees get confused. Employers may require employees to work on public holidays, especially in areas such as:

  • Health care
  • retail
  • hospitality
  • transportation

However, this is only valid if the compensation rules are followed. In simple words, you may not be able to directly refuse work but your employer cannot refuse you work. legal rights. You cannot be asked to work without fair compensation.

What if you are not compensated for your work for Eid Al Fitr 2026 in UAE?

This is where legal protection becomes important. If an employee works on Eid and does not receive additional pay or a compensatory day off, they have the right to take action. Recommended steps include:

  • Raise the issue internally with your employer
  • If not resolved, file a complaint with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE).
  • Officials can mediate disputes and ensure compliance with labor laws.

Can your boss make you work remotely on Eid al-Fitr 2026? UAE law explained

This legal backing is what makes UAE labor protections relatively strong in the region. Eid is not just a religious festival, it is also a peak economic period. Across the UAE, malls are packed, restaurants are experiencing record footfalls, travel and transportation are up and delivery services are on the rise. This means that businesses often require full operational capacity, even during public holidays. As a result, many employees, especially in customer-facing roles, are more likely to be asked to work during Eid than at other times of the year.

Gap between law and awareness on Eid Al Fitr 2026 in UAE

Despite clear legal provisions, many workers are unaware of their rights. Common misconceptions include:

  • Thinking that overtime rules apply automatically (they don’t, public holiday rules are different)
  • Believing Extra Pay Is Optional (It’s Not)
  • The belief that refusing to work is always permitted (depending on job requirements)

It is this gap between law and awareness that such interpreters are trending every Eid-ul-Fitr season. Eid work regulations fall under the UAE’s Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, which regulates private sector employment. Key provisions include:

  • Public holidays are paid holidays
  • Working these days requires compensation
  • Employers must apply the rules fairly and consistently

This law is designed to balance business continuity, employee welfare and economic productivity. To understand how this works, consider some common situations in which a retail employee working on Eid al Fitr 2026 should receive either extra pay or a day off afterward. Office workers asked to work remotely on public holidays still count as working. Not paying any compensation to the employee is a violation and is grounds for a complaint.Eid ul Fitr is around the corner and employees want clarity now. Extra pay can significantly increase earnings, especially for low-income workers. Many workers are only now learning about their rights. Discussions about “working on Eid” have increased on social media, which has further aggravated the issue.

Working on Eid Ul Fitr 2026? Here’s what you are legally entitled to in the UAE

Eid al Fitr is one of the most important festivals in the Islamic calendar, it is a time of prayer, family and celebration but for many workers, especially migrants, it is also a working day. The law recognizes this reality by ensuring that those working during Eid are fairly compensated while preserving both economic activity and worker dignity.

What should UAE workers do now?

With clarity in the rules, employees are advised to:

  1. Check their work schedule in advance
  2. Confirm compensation terms with employers
  3. Keep records of hours worked
  4. Speak up if your rights are not met.

Being informed is the first step toward ensuring fair treatment. Working during Eid is legal in the UAE but only under strict conditions. Public holidays are paid, compensation for work is required and employees have legal recourse. At its core, the law sends a clear message that celebrating Eid al Fitr may be optional for some workers but fair compensation is not.

Meet Ganesh Karthik Shankar: Indian-origin professional who interviewed at Meta, Amazon, Apple and Netflix before joining Google

Meet Ganesh Karthik Shankar: Indian-origin professional who interviewed at Meta, Amazon, Apple and Netflix before joining Google

An Indian-origin UX designer based in Seattle explains why he left a promising role at Amazon and joined Google after interviewing at all five major tech companies in the United States.Ganesh Karthik Shankar, 29, said he continued interviewing with other big tech companies even after starting at Amazon because he wanted to understand how different employers evaluate candidates and find the best fit for his skills. According to Business Insider, his experience includes interviews with Meta, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, and Google, which are often referred to as MAANG companies by job seekers. Shankar worked as a product designer at Amazon since April 2025. He was initially “really excited” about the role, as it offered the chance to work on larger-scale projects and a significant increase in compensation. Despite this, he continued with other interview processes even after starting the job.His decision to leave Google came after the company offered him a UX designer position in February 2026. The new role was strongly linked to their experience and included better compensation. He started his position at Google earlier this month.

How his job search unfolded

Shankar’s job search began in late 2024 when he was a senior UX designer at Qualcomm in San Diego. He said he wants to work with broader impact, especially on projects that impact millions of users. He also expected to get better salary. To prepare, they focused their resume and portfolio on their strengths in complex enterprise software design and technical developer tools. Shankar said that by limiting his applications to roles that matched the region, he received a large number of interview callbacks.Their work on refining their application content and target roles was an important part of their strategy. He focused on opportunities that were relevant to his experience and avoided generic applications.

Role of networking and referrals

Shankar used both referrals and cold outreach to secure interviews. He remains active in the design community, joining organizations, attending events, and staying connected to alumni networks. He also participated in specialized groups such as the Special Interest Group on Computer-Human Interaction, where he made many professional connections.Referrals helped him secure interviews at Amazon, Google, and Meta. At Amazon, he was seconded to the role of product designer in their enterprise customer service division. The process involved an online assessment followed by a conversation with the recruiter and interviews with the hiring managers. At Google, she similarly received a referral for a UX designer role, which began with an online assessment and progressed through recruiter and portfolio discussions. He also received an interview at Meta based on referral. He understood that Meta placed an emphasis on visual design in its hiring process.

Cold Application and Direct Outreach

Not all of his interviews came through referrals. At Apple, he had no referrals and applied directly. A recruiter subsequently contacted via email, beginning the full interview process. He also lacked referrals for Netflix. After applying through LinkedIn, he emailed a hiring manager, who helped him secure an interview.Shankar said contacting hiring managers directly can be successful when done strategically, focusing on roles that are relevant to someone’s experience rather than sending mass messages.

Why did they choose Google over Amazon?

Even after starting at Amazon, Shankar continued interviewing with other companies so he could compare opportunities and evaluate what different employers value. He pointed out that both Amazon and Google are more open to candidates with relevant but imprecise backgrounds than some others. At Apple and Netflix, he said, employers look for candidates whose experience closely matches the role.Eventually, Google’s proposal came out. This matched his specific domain expertise and came with a meaningful increase in compensation, leading him to make the move.Shankar said it was more important to be intentional about the roles they targeted than relying solely on referrals. He also encouraged job seekers to consider cold outreach when appropriate, especially when it’s geared toward hiring managers in areas where the candidate has strong expertise.
