Major update in fatal MRI incident: Case filed after man pulled into machine with metal chain
Keith McAllister’s widow files lawsuit alleging negligence in fatal MRI incident / Image: GoFundMe

A woman whose husband died after being pulled into an MRI machine has now filed a lawsuit, alleging negligence by the medical facility and others involved, marking a significant development in a case that has drawn attention to the dangers of powerful medical imaging equipment. according to newsdayAdrienne Jones-McAllister has filed a lawsuit in state Supreme Court in Nassau County over the death of her husband, Keith McAllister, 61, who died on July 16, 2025, after an incident at Nassau Open MRI in Westbury, New York. The lawsuit seeks an unspecified amount in damages and names several entities associated with the facility.

Lawsuit and allegations of negligence

Court documents filed Tuesday accuse the facility and related companies of failing to take basic safety precautions. Adrienne Jones-McAllister alleges that staff did not instruct her husband to remove his “large metal chain” before entering the MRI room and that the premises were unsafe. The lawsuit further claims that the defendants were “reckless and negligent by allowing unsafe conditions on the premises and by failing to implement or enforce safety protocols.” She says she has suffered “serious and severe personal, psychological and emotional injuries”, including effects described as “pain, disability, disfigurement and permanent effects of loss of physical function”. The filing also described the trauma of witnessing the incident, stating that she “witnessed and was fully aware through all of her senses of her husband’s injuries, suffering and eventual death.”

The suite is named Nassau Open MRI PC; East Coast Radiology PC, which had a contract allowing the Westbury facility to use its MRI machine; Sun Enterprises, which leased the site; and GM Partners Westbury LLC, which owned the property. The case is being handled by attorney Andrew Finkelstein of Jacoby & Meyers with Crump Law Offices. According to Newsday, representatives of the companies named in the lawsuit did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

What happened on 16th July 2025

The incident occurred while Adrienne Jones-McAllister was undergoing an MRI scan of her knee. According to the lawsuit, her husband accompanied her to the appointment. She previously said he asked if he could enter the room to help her off the table after the scan was complete. However, the lawsuit says she was “called” into the room by a technician while the machine was still running. At the time, Keith McAllister was wearing a heavy metal chain around his neck, which reportedly weighed about 20 pounds and was used for weight training. As soon as he entered the room, the powerful magnetic field of the MRI machine attracted him. The Nassau County Police Department said at the time: “The male victim was wearing a large metal chain around his neck, which caused him to become trapped in the machine, resulting in a medical incident.” He was trapped in the front of the machine, and according to a family fundraiser, “he remained trapped for about an hour before the chain was freed from the machine.”

His last moments and medical response

Emergency responders arrived and transported him to the hospital in critical condition. He suffered several heart attacks after the incident. Despite efforts to save him, he died the next day. His wife later recalled that he was able to “say goodbye” to her before his death.

The case has been under investigation since then, with a central question in the legal proceedings being how he was allowed to enter the room while wearing metal.

Risks of MRI Machines and Safety Protocols

MRI, or magnetic resonance imaging, machines rely on extremely strong magnetic fields to generate detailed images of the body. These fields can exert powerful forces on metal objects. According to the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering, the magnetic force is strong enough to act on “iron objects, some steels, and other magnetic objects” and “can be strong enough to blow a wheelchair across the room.” Because of this, strict security protocols are standard. Patients and anyone entering the room are usually required to remove all metal objects, including jewelery and accessories, before approaching the machine. Guidance from Columbia University Irving Medical Center similarly warns that metal objects can be pulled toward the scanner at high speed, posing a serious risk of injury.

Family history and unanswered questions

Following the incident, family accounts have pointed to possible lapses in communication. one in gofundme On a page set up to support the family, Adrienne’s daughter, Samantha Bowden, suggested that the technician “forgot to notify” Keith McAllister to remove the chain. The lawsuit also states that McAllister and the technician had previously had conversations about the series, although the details of that exchange have not been fully disclosed. It is not clear how much compensation the widow is seeking. The case is expected to proceed through the courts, where questions related to responsibility, safety protocols and the sequence of events inside the MRI room will be examined in detail.

Bhojshala controversy: Hindu organization cites ASI report to claim that there was a temple before the mosque

New Delhi: The Hindu Front for Justice on Thursday told the Madhya Pradesh High Court that Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) documents, including its scientific survey report, support its claim that a temple existed before the mosque at the disputed Bhojshala complex in Dhar district.Hindus consider the Bhojshala complex to be the temple of Vagdevi (Saraswati), while the Muslim side identifies it as the Kamal Maula Masjid. The controversy has led to several petitions and a writ appeal being filed regarding the religious character of the site, which the Indore bench is hearing on a daily basis since April 6.

Kamal Maula Masjid in MP’s Bhojshala built using parts of ancient temples: ASI

In its public interest litigation (PIL), the Hindu Front for Justice claimed that there was a temple dedicated to Goddess Saraswati at the 11th century site and after demolishing the temple, its remains were reused to build a mosque. On the fourth day of the hearing, advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain, appearing for one of the petitioners, completed his arguments before a division bench of Justice Vijay Kumar Shukla and Justice Alok Awasthi. Jain submitted that a Saraswati temple existed at the site and alleged that “Muslim rulers with a mindset opposed to idol worship” demolished the Hindu place of worship and reused its remains to construct a mosque in the complex. To support his arguments, Jain cited the ASI’s 2024 Scientific Survey Report prepared on the instructions of the High Court, its replies and affidavits, and historical documents published by the central government agency in 1902 and 1904. He claimed that the ASI material based on the actual condition of the site supports the petitioner’s case.“This does not mean that the ASI is taking sides. The ASI is merely putting the facts on record based on what is available at the site,” Jain told the court. He also told the court that the report listed numerous evidences of the temple present at the site, including remains of religious symbols, Sanskrit inscriptions and sculptures. However, when Jain began to mention parts of the scientific survey report in detail, a senior lawyer representing the Center objected and insisted that it was the job of the ASI lawyer to “display” his findings before the court. Counsel for one of the intervenors from the Muslim side also objected and argued that the petitioner is relying on the documents of the respondent (ASI) to support his case, which is not admissible under law. After considering the objections, the high court allowed Jain to highlight certain relevant parts of the ASI report, which functions under the Union Ministry of Culture. On March 11, 2024, the High Court had directed the ASI to conduct a scientific survey of the Bhojshala-Kamal Maula Masjid complex. The survey began on March 22, 2024, and the ASI submitted its report on July 15, 2024, after 98 days of the exercise. The more than 2,000-page report indicates that a large structure from the Paramara period (9th to 13th century) existed on the site before the mosque, and parts of the temples were reused in the present complex. The Muslim side has questioned the ASI survey and rejected the Hindu side’s claim that the site was originally a temple, alleging that some of the material included in the survey was “introduced through the back door.”

KKR criticized for cheating, Cameron Green strikes in his first over in IPL 2026

Cameron Green, who was bought for a huge sum by Kolkata Knight Riders in the auction, hit a four in his very first over for the franchise on Thursday, April 9. The Australian all-rounder, who was heavily criticized for not bowling in his first few matches in the Indian Premier League 2026, answered his critics by dismissing Rishabh Pant in his very first over of the tournament.

In the ninth over of the match, Green’s short ball hit the Lucknow Super Giants captain, causing a big blow to the batting order. The Australian all-rounder, who was bought for a whopping price of Rs 25.20 crore IPL KKR faced criticism in the auction for not bowling in the first two matches of the season.

KKR vs LSG: Updates | Achievement:

Former England international Kevin Pietersen had also questioned Green’s place in the playing eleven due to his lack of contribution with the ball.

Pietersen had said on Star Sports, “I won’t talk about the money (auction price), but I don’t think he is good enough to bat at No. 3. He is not bowling. Batting at No. 3 here and taking that responsibility. He is a middle-order batsman who bowls a bit and that is what he does.”

The controversy first came to light in KKR’s season opener, when captain Ajinkya Rahane was asked why Green had not bowled in the shock defeat to Mumbai Indians.

A disappointed Rahane had responded that the question was best left to Cricket Australia, suggesting that the franchise was not fully aware of Green’s bowling limitations at the time of the auction.

However, Cricket Australia clarified the situation after a few hoursHe said that KKR had already been informed that Green would not bowl during the initial phase of the tournament due to a back injury.

A CA spokesperson had said, “Cameron has a lower back injury which is being managed but he will have to stay away from bowling for a short period of time.”

“KKR has been informed and is fully aware of this information,” the statement said.

But on that day, Green pitching in the overs with the ball really helped KKR get some pressure back in the middle overs. One over from Green dismissed Rishabh Pant, while on the other hand, Sunil Narine dismissed LSG with his mystery spin.

Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram’s comeback in the middle overs after early aggression helped KKR pull the game back in their favour. When sent to bat first at Eden Gardens, KKR had scored 181 runs for the loss of 4 wickets.

‘We live on stolen land’: Indian-origin woman speaks out against racism at Frisco council meeting

'हम चोरी की जमीन पर रहते हैं': भारतीय मूल की महिला ने फ्रिस्को काउंसिल की बैठक में नस्लवाद के खिलाफ बात की

An Indian-origin woman called America a stolen land and said that those who are blaming immigrants are also immigrants or descendants of immigrants.

Ankita, an Indian-origin woman, recently spoke at a city council meeting in Frisco and addressed the anti-India narrative that arises at these meetings without any reaction. The woman said that those who are blaming immigrants for all their problems are also immigrants or descendants of immigrants from Europe, because America is stolen land and it is the country’s heritage. Introducing herself as Ankita, she said, “I am here to address those hateful and racist people who feel confident and protected enough to consistently come to the mic at multiple meetings in Frisco, Plano and Irving to disparage immigrants and repeatedly target members of the Frisco community.” He said that these racist comments made in city council meetings, which can be seen across the world, are going viral and people are seeing how such speakers are enjoying impunity as there is no intervention or any consequences for the hateful comments being made targeting Indians. Ankita said, these comments do not physically harm anyone inside these meetings, but they do harm community members outside. “Why do immigrants come to this country? Well, immigrants come to America looking for a better life but instead of welcoming them, the government crushes their hopes and dreams with oppression. Their labor is exploited, they are labeled criminals or aliens, they are forcibly removed, detained, deported… and racist people blame them for their problems,” Ankita urged everyone to think about how the government is doing healthcare for the American people. How is it spending so much money on immigration instead of care or housing? “We live on stolen land and that land was stolen from the indigenous people. This is the heritage of this country. The same people who blame immigrants for their problems are immigrants or descendants of immigrants who came here from Europe. There is no place for violence and racism in Frisco. And the violent mob outside Frisco temples and mosques needs to be charged and prosecuted,” Ankita said. Another Indian speaker, Pranavi Chhatrathi, protested at how Indian-American children were attacked as social media commentators pointed out that the Boy Scouts attending previous city council meetings were all Indian.Frisco City Council meetings have become controversial as several speakers in the past have attacked Frisco’s Indian community and called for an ‘Indian takeover’ of the city.

UK weather forecast: April heat highlights climate change in UK; Seasonal temperatures are expected to rise again with changes in weather patterns

Britain experienced unseasonably warm weather, peaking in mid-week when readings reached 26.6°C among the trees at Kew Gardens, one of the hottest early Aprils ever seen. Despite the prickles of sunshine, meteorologists say Atlantic waves are expected to bring wet skies, strong winds and a cool breeze through Saturday. The Met Office said Wednesday was hotter than any other day this year, making it the second hottest day of early April in history. Shortly before, Mona observed that the mercury had reached 24.8 degrees Celsius, which was unusually hot for April 7, breaking its own previous figure. Records show that places across the UK were hotter than places like Rome or Ibiza at the same time. That kind of heat surprised even experienced weather observers.According to Ben Rich of the Met Office, winds from southern areas of continental Europe brought unseasonal heat towards the UK, resulting in temperatures up to 10 degrees Celsius above normal in many places. While such patterns have occurred before, he said, today’s baseline warming, which is being shaped by long-term changes, is making the extremes more pronounced. Rather than isolated anomalies, current conditions reflect a broader trend where past temperature limits are being rapidly exceeded. Due to changed global systems, even simple seasonal movements now have stronger consequences than decades ago. While natural variability plays a role, underlying changes increase how cold it can get, and increase altitude even more. Weather predictions show clear changes ahead. From the Atlantic, westerly winds blow, bringing low temperatures and widespread rainfall to the British Isles. Although temperatures could reach 22°C by Thursday in parts of south-east England, the heat quickly dissipates. As cold air spreads, many areas adjust towards normal levels between 10°C and 14°C. This pattern will continue in the coming days. From the west, rain bands move forward without stopping, reaching wide areas. By Friday afternoon, heavy rain begins to fall across Northern Ireland, with winds reaching 50 to 70 mph across coastal areas there and western Scotland. Where cold air meets wet systems, the highlands of Scotland experience wintry weather, with sleet or snow possible. Despite light flows elsewhere, altitude brings changes. Conditions keep changing gradually as moisture persists. The air is coldest in northern areas and parts of the west at night, falling rapidly after dark. While the sky remains clear till Friday morning, the lower places experience severe cold. Under the empty clouds the warmth of the ground is quickly lost, making the morning seem brighter than before. Expect the weather to remain variable over the weekend, alternating between gloomy stretches and clear moments. In the northern regions, powerful winds blow from time to time, interrupting calm periods. In many places it continues to rain, often in the form of brief showers rather than steady rain. Meanwhile, southern regions see extended breaks without precipitation, with occasional sunlight filtering through. The eastern districts remain relatively free from cloud cover, although interruptions occur when systems move through the upper regions. A slow increase in temperature is expected after the coolness subsides in the beginning of the week. After this, spring-like patterns are likely to appear again. Despite a short period of unusual heat, seasonal rhythms appear to be resuming. That change reveals how local weather dances around long-term changes in Earth’s climate system.

Under police investigation for staying at the same station for more than 3 years
According to the policy, transfers are to be made every year between April 15 and June 15.

Bhubaneswar: Police officers who have overstayed at their postings in violation of the government’s transfer policy are now under investigation. Odisha Police Headquarters has directed all district superintendents of police (SP) and deputy commissioners of police (DCP) in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack to ensure that officers serving at the same station for more than three years are transferred in line with state guidelines.A senior police officer said, “We have advised the heads of police districts and establishments to start identifying such officers and transfer them immediately as per the government’s policy. They have been advised to complete the process as soon as possible.”According to a circular issued by IGP (Personnel) S Praveen Kumar on Tuesday, no officer should be posted in the same district for more than six consecutive years, and no officer should be posted at the same station for more than three consecutive years. The instructions reiterate the policy of the state government. “Generally, a government servant can be transferred after serving a period of three years at one place,” the circular said.As per the policy, transfers are to be made annually between April 15 and June 15. “District transfer boards should be convened by April 20, proposals for inter-district transfers should be submitted to range offices by April 25. Range transfer boards should meet by April 30, while proposals requiring headquarters-level approval should reach the state police headquarters by May 10,” the letter said. The instructions emphasize that SPs and DCPs should conduct a thorough review to identify those personnel who have completed their tenure and initiate transfers within or outside the district. Officials have been directed to strictly follow the guidelines without any deviation.“The policy is clear, and it aims to ensure fairness, efficiency and accountability in policing,” said a senior headquarters official. “Transfers are routine, but this time the instructions are strict and uniform across all districts,” another official said. Some former police personnel have cautioned that posting at one place for a long time could lead to corruption and nepotism. A retired officer, requesting anonymity, said, “Many officers use unfair means and political influence to get good postings and remain in the same post for years. This practice must end.”
