New Delhi: Chief Minister of West Bengal and All India Trinamool Congress Leader Mamata Banerjee accused on saturday Bharatiya Janata Party Efforts are being made to cancel his candidature from Bhabanipur assembly seat with the help of Election Commission of India He alleged that his party workers and the public had thwarted the move by filing “false cases”. Addressing an election rally in Keshiyari in West Medinipur district, Mamata said, “The BJPWith the help of the Election Commission, they tried to invalidate my candidature from Bhabanipur by trying to file false cases against me, but we foiled their game plan.
He again accused the BJP of manipulating the voter list during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. “More than 250 people died due to SIR; of the 90 lakh voters removed in Bengal, 60 lakh are Hindus, 30 lakh are Muslims,” he said, news agency PTI reported.He alleged that deletion of voters’ names was part of a broader strategy to influence the election results. “They are deleting names of voters. They are also planning to tamper with EVMs to change the results in their favour,” Banerjee claimed.Expressing concern over identity and citizenship, he said, “Since we speak Bengali, are we not Indians? Do we need to constantly prove citizenship?”The Chief Minister also criticized BJP’s promise to implement it uniform civil code (UCC) if it comes to power then in the state. He alleged that such a move would be “directed against backward communities” and aimed at curbing democratic rights.Mamata insisted that her party would oppose any attempt to impose UCC in West Bengal and reiterated her political opposition to the BJP at both the state and national levels.
