Jammu/Srinagar: National Conference President Farooq Abdullah and Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary had a narrow escape on Wednesday evening when a man with a gun entered a wedding venue in Jammu’s Greater Kailash and opened fire before being caught.Calling the attack “a major security lapse”, Chaudhary told reporters, “We are both safe but now it is the responsibility of the police to explain how this happened.” Sources have identified the arrested attacker as Kamal Singh Jamwal, resident of Jammu. He said that the police is interrogating him to find out the motive behind the attack.“It was a function where a former chief minister, a sitting deputy CM and the CM’s advisor were present and a person could enter with a gun. You can understand how much security was there,” Choudhary said.cm Omar Abdullah “There was a very close shave,” his father said. In a post onOmar’s advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, who witnessed the revelations, said the arrested attacker had clearly come with the intention of targeting Farooq. “He tried to fire at Farooq sahab with the revolver. I don’t want to draw any conclusions now. It is God’s grace that he survived. He is fine and in good spirits,” Wani told TOI.
