US President Donald Trump lashed out at allies on Tuesday over rising fuel prices, mocking the United Kingdom and other countries hit by the disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, telling them to “get their own oil” amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. He criticized France as “unhelpful” in relation to the ‘butcher of Iran’ and claimed that the United States would remember.In a series of posts on Truth Social, Trump said that countries facing jet fuel shortages due to the situation in the Strait of Hormuz should rely on themselves.He said, “All those countries that can’t get jet fuel because of the Strait of Hormuz, like the United Kingdom, which refused to join in the beheading of Iran, I have a suggestion for you: No. 1, buy from America, we have plenty of it, and No. 2, gather some late courage, go to the Strait and take it.”“You have to start learning how to fight for yourself, USA. No longer there to help you, just like you weren’t there for us. Iran has been essentially destroyed. The hard part is done. Get your own oil!” He added.Trump also criticized France, accusing it of being “inept” in eliminating “the butcher of Iran”.He wrote in a separate post, “The country of France will not allow Israel-bound planes loaded with military supplies to fly over French territory. France has been very unhelpful in relation to the ‘Butcher of Iran’, which has been successfully eliminated! The United States will remember!!!”Trump’s comments came after fresh US strikes on a city at one of Iran’s key nuclear sites, causing a massive firestorm, while Tehran retaliated by attacking a fully loaded Kuwaiti oil tanker in the Persian Gulf.The conflict has killed more than 3,000 people and severely disrupted global supplies of oil and natural gas.Tensions have also increased around the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route through which about a fifth of the world’s oil passes. The narrow waterway linking the Persian Gulf to the Indian Ocean is now effectively closed, sharply reducing maritime traffic and disrupting the movement of container ships, bulk carriers and oil tankers.The disruption, along with Iranian attacks on regional energy infrastructure, has sent global oil prices soaring and spooked financial markets. International benchmark Brent crude was hovering around $106 a barrel on Tuesday, up more than 45% since the war began on February 28.Amid rising tensions, Trump warned that the United States could escalate its military offensive if the situation did not improve. He said that if a ceasefire was not reached “soon” and the Strait of Hormuz was not reopened, Washington could target key Iranian infrastructure, including the Kharag Island oil export hub and possibly desalination plants.“The United States is in serious discussions with a new and more just regime to end our military operations in Iran,” Trump posted.“But, if for whatever reason there is no agreement soon, which there probably will be, and if the Strait of Hormuz is not immediately ‘open for business’, we will end our lovely ‘stay’ in Iran by blowing up and completely destroying all of our power generation plants, oil wells, and Kharg Island (and possibly all desalination plants!) that we have not knowingly ‘touched’ yet.”The warning follows Trump’s decision last week to give Iran a 10-day cooling-off period, which he described as a response to Tehran’s “gift” when it allowed eight oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz and halted planned attacks on energy infrastructure.“He said to me very nicely through my people, ‘Can we get more time?’ Because we’re talking about tomorrow night, which is very early, and if they don’t do what they have to do, I will shut down their power plants,” Trump told Fox News.
