IPL 2026, Angkrish Raghuvanshi Interview: Kolkata Knight Riders batsman prioritizes development over India selection hopes
Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai keeper-batsman Angkrish Raghuvanshi has played down his chances of selection in India, insisting that his focus is on honing his skills and developing as a cricketer.
“I don’t really think about it too much. I just think about improving my game as much as I can,” he told the Press Trust of India in an interview. “It’s a very dynamic game, so I’m always working on my batting, fielding skills and wicketkeeping as well. I’m just trying to improve day by day, learn and do as well as I can,” Raghuvanshi said.
The Mumbai batsman further explained that he assesses his performance based on the team’s results as he focuses on honing his skills as a top-order batsman and wicketkeeper.
He said, “I thought I prepared as hard as I could, but I judge my performance only on the basis of whether the team wins or not.”
Competition for places in the Indian team has intensified across all formats, with specialist batsmen like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Verma also working on their bowling skills. Raghuvanshi is also facing tough competition but he is not paying attention to the competition right now.
While the 21-year-old did not get many opportunities in red-ball domestic cricket for the Mumbai cricket team, he did feature in both the white-ball tournaments, the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
He further said, “We haven’t won any white-ball tournaments, but that’s okay. There’s a lot to learn from it and I will work harder and come back a better player.” “Every season I play is equally important because I play every match as if it will be my last match. I treat every match as important as the next. I have been playing a lot of cricket this year, so I feel well prepared and hopefully I can deliver for the team and help us win.”
Will Raghuvanshi become the captain of KKR?
Raghuvanshi’s skills behind the wicket can also be useful for KKRWho, like other teams, will be challenged to find the right combination in the early stages of the Indian Premier League. The team also has Tim Seifert, Finn Allen and Tejaswi Dahiya as specialist wicketkeepers.
“My Mumbai T20 team needed me, so I said why not? It’s a new challenge and I’ve really enjoyed it. I’ve been practicing a lot and we’ll see what happens,” he said.
With his mentor and coach Abhishek Nair now taking over as KKR head coach, Raghuvanshi believes there is a lot to learn.
“It will be a great learning experience for me as well as the entire team. He has a great cricketing mind and is a great human being,” he said.
Raghuvanshi said, “I have already learned a lot from him, and this season will be no different. I will continue to learn and hopefully we will win a lot of matches and tournaments together.”
