Jorhat district administration allays fears of fuel shortage

Dibrugarh: To curb public anxiety and panic buying, the Jorhat district administration on Thursday clarified that there is no shortage of petrol or diesel in the district.Addressing an emergency meeting at the District Commissioner’s office, DC Jai Shivani said the fuel supply chain remains strong and fully functional, dismissing rumors of dry-out as baseless misinformation.

The high level meeting saw the participation of Additional District Commissioner (Supply), Superintendent of Supply Department and key representatives of Oil Station Association. The primary agenda was to analyze the sudden increase in panic among residents, who were flocking to petrol pumps following whispers of an impending fuel crisis on social media.Providing factual details of the situation, DC Shivani revealed that the temporary closure of some stations on Wednesday was due to internal administrative reasons rather than shortage of inventory.“Out of the 56 oil depots operating in Jorhat district, only eight were found closed on Wednesday. It is important for the public to understand that these closures were due to personal financial and transactional issues of the respective owners and not due to fuel shortage from the oil companies. Six of those eight depots have already resolved their financial constraints and are resuming operations immediately. Hopefully the rest will follow suit soon.”“We urge the citizens of Jorhat not to be misled by unverified reports or inflammatory social media posts. There is enough stock in the district to meet all regular requirements. There is no need to panic or over-stock,” the DC said.Oil Station Associations have been given strict instructions to ensure uninterrupted and regular supply to the public. The administration warned that any attempt to stockpile fuel or create an artificial crisis would face legal action.
