New Delhi: Congress Leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday hit out at the Uttar Pradesh government over the death of a journalist who had recently run a story on the liquor mafia and the police had said his death was a road accident. Police said that 42-year-old news channel reporter Sulabh Srivastava died after colliding with a pillar near a brick kiln in Sukhpal Nagar of Kotwali police station area of Pratapgarh on Sunday.
“From Aligarh to Pratapgarh, the liquor mafia has created a havoc of death in the entire state. The government is silent.” Priyanka Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi.
“Journalists expose the truth, warn the administration about the dangers. The government is sleeping,” he alleged.
Priyanka Gandhi asked, does the government that “nurturing jungle raj” have any answer to the tears of journalist Sulabh Srivastava’s family?
Srivastava had recently run a news against the liquor mafia in the area. Then on June 12 he wrote a letter to Prayagraj Security has been sought from the Additional Director General of Police.
Additional Superintendent of Police Surendra Dwivedi said Srivastava died in an accident while returning after giving information about an illegal arms manufacturing unit in Asrahi village of Lalganj police station area.
He said that after the accident, seriously injured Srivastava was taken to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
