New Delhi: A blast outside the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Punjab unit headquarters in Chandigarh on Wednesday evening spread panic in the area, with police confirming that it appeared a crude explosive device was thrown at the site. There is no information about any casualty.The blast took place outside the party office in Sector 37 at around 5 pm. According to police officials, initial findings suggest that a small, improvised device was thrown towards the campus. Visuals broadcast from the scene showed a suspect throwing a blue, grenade-like object before running away, with an explosion heard moments later.Senior Superintendent of Police Kanwardeep Kaur said officers received information about an “explosion-like sound” near the BJP office soon after the incident. “Prima facie, it appears that a small crude-type device was thrown,” he told reporters. He said that several teams have been deployed for investigation.Immediately after the blast, local crime branch and operation cell personnel reached the spot. A team from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory was also called in to investigate the site, while National Investigation Agency (NIA) officials joined the investigation.A scooter parked outside the building was damaged by the blast, although no injuries were reported. BJP state media cell chief Vineet Joshi said that this incident is extremely worrying. “We can see some signs on the border wall. Only the police can give details,” he said.
