It is alleged that there was a scuffle between the two in March, after which an FIR was lodged at Lodhi Colony police station in Delhi on March 11. Vandana alleges that on the day of the incident, Amit brought Jyoti to a hotel in Rudrapur on some pretext where she was made to consume beer and cigarettes. After this he died under suspicious circumstances. Family members say that Amit also tried to destroy evidence from the room after the murder.

A panel of three doctors did the post-mortem.
