चमोली जिले में बद्रीनाथ, कर्णप्रयाग और थराली विधानसभा क्षेत्र शामिल हैं। बद्रीनाथ सीट से कांग्रेस के लखपत बुटोला विधायक हैं जबकि कर्णप्रयाग और थराली से बीजेपी विधायक अनिल नौटियाल और भूपाल राम तमता विधायक हैं. बद्रीनाथ से विधायक राजेंद्र भंडारी 2012 से 2017 तक कृषि मंत्री रहे। तब से जिले को राज्य में कोई प्रतिनिधित्व नहीं मिला है। इससे जनता में निराशा है.

मोली जिले ने उत्तर प्रदेश और उत्तराखंड को कद्दावर नेता दिये

कांग्रेस जिलाध्यक्ष सुरेश कुमार डिमरी का कहना है कि धामी सरकार चमोली जिले के प्रति संवेदनशील नहीं है। सरकार यहां के लोगों को सिर्फ वोट बैंक के तौर पर देखती है. प्रधान संगठन के ब्लॉक अध्यक्ष मोहन बजवाल का कहना है कि सीमांत चमोली जिले को भी प्रतिनिधित्व मिलना चाहिए था। पिछले दस वर्षों से जिला नेतृत्व विहीन है। राजनीतिक विश्लेषकों का मानना ​​है कि क्षेत्रीय संतुलन बनाए रखने के लिए चमोली को कैबिनेट में जगह दी जानी चाहिए थी.

जिले में दो विधायक होने के बावजूद उन्हें कैबिनेट में जगह नहीं मिल सकी. राजनीतिक विशेषज्ञों का कहना है कि चाहे उत्तर प्रदेश हो या उत्तराखंड, चमोली जिले ने पहले भी कद्दावर नेता दिए हैं। चमोली की कर्णप्रयाग सीट से स्व. डॉ. शिवानंद नौटियाल यूपी में मंत्री थे तो डॉ. रमेश पोखरियाल निशंक यूपी समेत उत्तराखंड में मंत्री थे।

इतना ही नहीं पूर्व कांग्रेस विधायक स्व. एपी मैखुरी विधानसभा में उपाध्यक्ष थे जबकि बद्रीनाथ से विधायक रहे स्व. केदार सिंह फोनिया यूपी में मंत्री थे. इसके अलावा राजेंद्र भंडारी बीजेपी और कांग्रेस सरकार में भी मंत्री रहे. लेकिन 2017 और 2022 में बनी भाजपा सरकार में जिले को प्रतिनिधित्व नहीं मिल सका है।
