ODI World Cup, WTC victory bigger than T20 World Cup: Manjrekar’s strange style goes viral

Days after India’s T20 World Cup win, former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar’s strange comment on the achievement has gone viral. Manjrekar addressed X on Tuesday, March 10 and said that, according to cricket fans, all ICC trophies are not on the same level. The former batsman believed that, according to fans, winning the ODI World Cup and WTC Championship was an even bigger achievement than winning the T20 World Cup.

Incidentally, India failed to win the 2023 edition of the ODI World Cup held in its own backyard. The team also failed to reach the final of the World Test Championship last season after bad failures against New Zealand and South Africa.

However, in this period, the Indian T20I team played some brilliant cricket and won consecutive T20 World Cups, becoming the first team to achieve this unique feat in the history of the competition.

Fans criticized Manjrekar’s opinion and criticized its timing.

“All this is true. But perhaps the worst time to say this is right after winning the T20 World Cup. No one is holding a gun to your head and asking you to tell the bitter truth. It’s like Sania Mirza celebrating becoming world No. 1 in the rankings and you replying ‘in doubles’,” comedian Abhijeet Ganguly replied to Manjrekar’s tweet.

Fans also seemed angry with the former player’s opinion.

During this time, India dominated in the T20 World Cup final To lift their second consecutive trophy in the format. India saved its crown by defeating New Zealand by a huge margin of 96 runs. Jasprit Bumrah and Sanju Samson were the stars of the show in the match held at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Manjrekar’s history of controversial comments

This is not the first time Sanjay Manjrekar has created a stir on social media With your comments. In 2024, Manjrekar had targeted India coach Gautam Gambhir over his behavior in a press conference.

Manjrekar, in a strongly worded statementCriticized Gambhir’s press conference ahead of the Ward-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, saying that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should keep him away from press duties.

Manjrekar further said that Gambhir lacked the “manner” to represent the Indian cricket team in press meets and that he should focus on his work behind the scenes.

“Just saw Gambhir at the press conference. It might be wise for @BCCI to keep him away from such duties, let him work behind the scenes. He has neither the right conduct nor words when interacting with them. Rohit and Agarkar are better people for the media,” Manjrekar had written on Twitter.

Middle East war enters 12th day as US, Israel launch ‘heaviest attacks’ on Iran while Tehran refuses ceasefire.

Middle East war enters 12th day as US, Israel launch 'heaviest attacks' on Iran while Tehran refuses ceasefire.

The war between the United States, Israel and Iran entered its 12th day on Wednesday and shows no signs of slowing down, as US and Israeli forces launched the most intense attacks yet on Iranian targets as the conflict spread across the region. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Tuesday would see the largest wave of US strikes since the war began, with more aircraft, bombers and intelligence-directed strikes deployed against Iranian military infrastructure. Iran, whose military capabilities have been hit by several days of bombing, has vowed to keep fighting. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf rejected the possibility of a ceasefire and said Tehran intended to punish Washington and Tel Aviv’s aggression. Another senior Iranian figure, Ali Larijani, issued a warning to US President Donald Trump on social media, saying that Iran is not afraid of US threats. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, meanwhile, said the broader aim of the war was to weaken Iran’s leadership to the point where popular forces could overthrow the government. “We are breaking their bones,” Netanyahu said of the ongoing campaign.

Strikes are expanding across the region

The fighting has spread beyond Iran’s borders, with new attacks reported in Lebanon and Iraq. Israeli strikes early Wednesday killed at least seven people in southern Lebanon, including five in the city of Qana, Lebanon’s health ministry said. Additional air strikes in the Tire and Bint Jbeil districts also caused casualties. Israeli forces also attacked Hezbollah-linked infrastructure in Beirut’s southern suburbs after issuing a warning to evacuate the densely populated area. Elsewhere, drones targeted military installations at Baghdad International Airport in Baghdad late Tuesday, according to Iraqi security officials. The drones landed near facilities used by US-led coalition forces, including the US-run Victoria Base, although no casualties were reported.

Heavy bombing in Tehran

Residents of Tehran reported some of the “heaviest bombardment” of the war overnight, with powerful explosions shaking neighborhoods and knocking out power in parts of the capital. Eyewitnesses said the strikes lasted for a long time around midnight, with some residents reporting that residential buildings were also affected. Many businesses in Tehran closed early amid fears of further attacks, the AP reported. Thousands of civilians have reportedly fled major cities to seek refuge in rural areas.

US targets Iranian naval assets

The US military said it has destroyed 16 Iranian mine-laying vessels near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, amid fears that Tehran may attempt to block the vital shipping lane. The waterway, through which about a fifth of the world’s oil supply passes, has become a focal point of conflict. President Trump warned that if Iran deploys naval mines in the strait, they must be immediately removed or face serious military consequences.“If Iran has placed any mines in the Strait of Hormuz, and we have had no reports of it doing so, we want them removed immediately! If mines were placed for any reason, and they are not immediately removed, the military consequences for Iran would be at a level never seen before. On the other hand, if they remove what has been put up, that would be a huge step in the right direction! Additionally, we are using the same technology and missile capabilities deployed against drug smugglers to permanently destroy any boat or ship attempting to mine in the Strait of Hormuz. They will be dealt with swiftly and violently. Be careful!” he said.

140 US service members injured

The Pentagon said about 140 US service members have been injured since the conflict began, although most injuries are minor. Eight soldiers are reported to be seriously injured, while many have already returned to duty. Civilian and military casualties have also increased across the region. In Lebanon alone, officials say hundreds of people have been killed and more than a thousand wounded since the latest round of fighting began.

Markets and global concerns

Despite the escalating conflict, financial markets showed relative stability on Tuesday after several days of volatility due to uncertainty about how long the war will last. The S&P 500 slipped slightly, while oil prices fell from nearly $120 a barrel at the start of the week to steady around $90. Global leaders are closely monitoring the economic consequences of the conflict. Leaders of the Group of Seven are expected to hold emergency talks on energy security and possible measures to stabilize oil markets. With both sides rejecting calls for talks and stepping up military operations, fears are growing that the conflict could further destabilize the Middle East and disrupt global energy supplies.

Supreme Court rejects PETA's petition on bull racing in Karnataka

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a plea by People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) against the Karnataka High Court order that Kambala and bull races in Karnataka cannot be restricted to the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi. The Appellant sought to challenge it.A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta refused to interfere with the HC order and raised questions as to why bull racing should be restricted to certain areas. “They want to showcase the culture in different parts of the state; what’s wrong in that? Let people from other parts of the state also get acquainted with the culture. Why restrict it only to a particular region?” It said.It was argued that the other venues had no traditional or cultural connection with the sport, and the events were being held solely for commercial reasons, however the petition was rejected.

Microsoft plans to compete with iPhone and Android smartphones with this new device

Microsoft plans to compete with iPhone and Android smartphones with this new device
Microsoft has discontinued the Surface Duo smartphone, but has filed a patent for a new foldable device with a single hinge system called ‘Spine Cover Plate’. The design aims to eliminate the hinge crease and reduce the thickness of the device while providing additional benefits and durability. However, its practicality remains uncertain.

Microsoft It didn’t have the success it hoped for with Android-powered Surface Duo-Series smart fone. The company has discontinued this lineup after Duo 2. But, this does not mean that the company has stopped trying.
New one patent application The file, filed at the United States Patent and Trademark Office on February 29, suggests that the company is working on another foldable or dual-display mobile device. The patent application describes the company’s take on a foldable smartphone concept with a single hinge technology called “Spine Cover Plate.”
Microsoft’s next smartphone may have a design like Galaxy Z Fold
According to the patent application, the phone may feature a “flexible display” in a bookstyle design, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold. However, the focus is on the spine cover plate mechanism which aims to protect the single-hinge system of the device by covering the structural element.
The differentiating factor between the regular hinge and Microsoft’s design is that the spine cover automatically adjusts when the phone is opened and closed to prevent any unnecessary gaps around the hinge and protect it from dust as well as water. Currently, Samsung’s design offers IPX8 rating which makes their foldable the only water resistant.
The patent further mentions that the new hinge mechanism could allow Microsoft to eliminate hinge creases that are less visible than existing options available in the market.
Additionally, Microsoft also mentioned technologies that could allow the overall thickness of a foldable smartphone to be reduced by allowing the spine cover plate to move closer to the hinge of the device when folded.
“By retracting the spine cover plate toward the central spine, such that the first display-supporting frame and the second display-supporting frame are rotated into a face-to-face orientation, the width of the folded computing device is reduced, making it easier and more comfortable to handle the device with one hand,” Microsoft said in the patent.
The idea is interesting, but practicality is questionable
The entire smartphone market is searching for a way to eliminate the foldable crease from their smartphones. Some brands have already implemented water-drop folding mechanisms to reduce this, but there’s nothing like a crease-free foldable. Additionally, the durability of foldables is also important considering all the moving parts in these phones.
That said, adding another layer or a movable part on top of the entire foldable mechanism doesn’t seem like a wise move, despite the additional benefits and durability touted by Microsoft in the patent application.

Man visits world’s highest city ‘Hell on Earth’ Gold City where ‘lawless’ mines are guarded by snipers

Man visits world's highest city 'Hell on Earth' gold town where 'lawless' mines are guarded by snipers
Italian YouTuber Zaza is accompanied by two policemen who keep an eye on him amid the chaotic streets.

More than 5,000 meters above sea level in the Peruvian Andes lies La Rinconada, a settlement widely described as the highest permanent city on Earth. About 50,000 people live there, scattered across a bleak landscape of corrugated metal houses, muddy roads and waste from gold mines that dominate the local economy. For outsiders who have traveled there, the place presents a surprising contrast: spectacular mountain views surrounding a city battling extreme altitude, pollution, crime and harsh working conditions. The accounts of visitors documenting their visits offer a rare glimpse of daily life in a settlement that many describe as one of the hardest places in the world to live.

travel in thin air

When members of Yes Theory, a Youtube channel Known for documenting unusual travel experiences, set out to visit La Rinconada, the journey was already arduous. The settlement is approximately 5,100 meters (3.2 mi) above sea level, where the air contains about half the oxygen found at sea level. Tourists reaching there often face the problem of dizziness and breathlessness within minutes.

oxygen

Thomas Bragg of the Yes Theory YouTube channel carries a portable oxygen tank with him to deal with thin air.

Italian traveler Zaza, who also documented his visit to the city different youtube videosJulia described feeling the effects almost immediately after arriving after a three-hour minibus ride from the city, “I’m feeling dizzy. We’re over 5,000 meters, and they say so.” [above] 5,000 meters is no longer suitable for human life. But more than 50,000 people live here. This is unbelievable.” The altitude creates serious long-term health problems for residents. La Rinconada is considered the global epicenter of Chronic Mountain Sickness (CMS), a condition caused by prolonged oxygen deprivation. Doctors estimate that one in four residents may suffer from it, and untreated cases can lead to heart failure. Local medical staff often recommend traditional remedies to visitors, including chewing coca leaves, which contain mild stimulant compounds that can ease altitude symptoms. Aspirin is also usually recommended.

A gold rush that transformed a mountain village

Until 2003, La Rinconada was little more than a remote Andean village. That year, the gold rush began an increase in migration as thousands of people arrived in nearby mines hoping to strike it rich. The population grew rapidly, creating a settlement that grew faster than the infrastructure or law enforcement.

Today the town is dominated by the gold industry, and its economy revolves almost entirely around mines dug in the nearby glacier. Mining here operates under a system locally known as cachorio. Workers can work without pay for 30 days, after which they get one day off in which to keep any gold they find. The reward is enough for some miners. For many others it is of little consequence.

On the streets, it is common to see people sifting through rocks and soil from the mines hoping to discover tiny gold particles that were ignored during the extraction process, a reality that was captured by Italian travel YouTuber Zaza during his visit to the city, where he also saw children cooking on the side of the road and learned that less than 30% of children attend school as many are forced to work from a very young age, some are left to wander the streets.

“The sketchiest place I’ve ever seen”

Yes Theory YouTube channel member Thomas Bragg, who visited La Rinconada, said tension was immediately felt in the city. He described it as “the sketchiest place I’ve ever seen”. He said that during his stay he witnessed regular street fights, with no one often intervening to stop them. Alone one morning, he counted three separate fights within half an hour of his hotel window.

Miners drink heavily in the streets, while fights often break out, making the town tense and chaotic.

The security guards warn them that the atmosphere of the city changes dramatically as night falls. He advised her to stay indoors after dark, explaining that things could “completely change” after the sun sets. He said that night he heard gunshots and screams in the streets outside his hotel.

Hidden crimes and gangs among the miners

Italian YouTuber Zaza visited La Rinconada with two police officers for protection, and he candidly described his first impression of the town, calling it “practically an entire, giant slum.” The officers who accompanied him said that many criminals in the city work closely with the task force.

zaza

Italian YouTuber Zaza, guided by two policemen, explores dangerous streets, watching fights and miners extracting gold.

A policeman described the situation in the video: “Everything, armed robberies, attacks. There is a territorial issue inside the mine, and that’s where they have conflicts, or disputes over control. They rob pedestrians, steal what the workers earn in the mines, then go away and hide.” He said it is difficult to identify the criminals because they dress like miners. “They can commit any criminal act and it is not easy to identify them.”

City plagued by pollution and destruction

Beyond crime and poverty, mining in La Rinconada has also caused significant damage to the environment. Locals told visitors that the mercury used in the gold extraction process had contaminated parts of the nearby glacier and water supply. The city itself is full of garbage, there is very little system for collecting garbage. The roads are often littered with garbage bags, empty bottles and debris from mining operations.

Very good

La Rinconada is buried under mountains of waste and toxic mining runoff, which contains mercury polluted water.

One visitor described seeing “mountains and mountains of garbage” throughout the settlement. Public sanitation is limited, and residents rely on scattered public toilets and makeshift systems.

life in harsh conditions

Work in the mines is physically difficult. Many miners toil 10 to 12 hours a day in freezing temperatures at high altitudes.Because the environment is so harsh and entertainment options are limited, alcohol consumption is common.Reflecting on the environment he witnessed, Zaza said:“And I see a lot of people who…abuse alcohol, I think because there’s not much entertainment here, and life is very hard…I think these are the only moments to forget a little bit about how hard it is to work here.”A local police officer said alcohol has also become part of local mining traditions.“Yes, besides, it’s the custom here. If they drink, they drink a lot.” The more they drink, the more mines they get. A bit strange, but that’s how it is.”Miners also leave offerings to a spirit locally called “Chacha”, who is represented by statues placed near mine entrances.Workers sometimes leave cigarettes or alcohol as offerings, hoping that the spirit will guide them to sleep.

Hazardous areas around mines

The mining areas themselves can be even more dangerous. Private security companies employed by mine operators often patrol the area armed with firearms, while criminal groups also carry weapons. Zaza and the officers accompanying him encountered signs warning outsiders not to enter certain areas. One sign reportedly read: “On orders to shoot to kill, do not stop.” The police told them that snipers sometimes took up positions on nearby glaciers, making the area extremely dangerous for anyone staying there for very long. One officer warned, “You can’t enter, you can’t make a mistake.”

Human stories behind the harsh environment

Despite the city’s reputation, travelers also encountered people trying to survive in difficult conditions. In one example, a man seen digging in wet soil on the roadside in search of gold pieces said he did so to buy food for his family as he had no other work available. In another encounter, a group of miners drinking together after work described their daily routine, with one telling a visitor, “You can work for free and just move on.”Many migrants arrive in La Rinconada hoping to earn enough money to eventually leave, but the reality often proves harsher than they expected.

A place of beauty and difficulty
