New Delhi: Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Victory Canceled his scheduled election campaign in Chennai on Monday citing logistical constraints imposed by local authorities.Vijay was set to campaign in Villivakkam and T Nagar constituencies. News agency ANI quoted party sources as saying that although the police had given permission for the events, the party alleged that the time allotted for travel between the two locations was inadequate.Citing these restrictions, Vijay decided to cancel the campaign for the day, and said that TVK could approach the Election Commission on the issue. An official statement from the party is awaited.Tamil Nadu Voting will be held in a single phase on April 23, with counting taking place on May 4.The main contest is expected to be between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) – which includes the Congress, DMDK and VCK – and the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which has the BJP and the PMK as its allies.Actor-turned-politician Vijay is set to make his electoral debut with TVK and aims to establish the party as the third force in the state.Earlier on Saturday, Vijay launched a scathing attack on the established alliances during a rally in Puducherry, calling the AINRC-BJP alliance “tired” and the DMK-Congress alliance “confused”.Vijay said, “There are 2 alliances in Puducherry…DMK-Congress in Tamil Nadu is a confused alliance. Similarly, here too it remains a confused alliance. Similarly, there is NR Congress-BJP alliance. It is not a united alliance. It is a tired alliance. Why did this alliance not give statehood to Puducherry? If we come to power, we will try our best to secure statehood.”
