Tamil Nadu: TVK chief Vijay booked for violating election rules the day after entering the polls

New Delhi: A case of violation of election conduct rules was registered against Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay at Pervallur police station on Tuesday.According to the complaint filed by Flying Squad officer Kumar, Vijay allegedly violated the Model Code of Conduct by using around 30 loudspeakers during a public meeting, drawing a crowd of over 5,000 people and causing inconvenience to the public.The complaint also said that the gathering caused obstruction to the public road and allegedly blocked the movement of an ambulance, raising concerns over public safety.Acting on the complaint, Pervallur police have registered a case under five sections, including charges related to public nuisance, unlawful assembly and obstructing public thoroughfares. According to ANI, along with Vijay, around 5,000 party workers are also named in this case. Vijay had recently announced that he would contest from Perambur and Trichy East constituencies.Tamil Nadu is scheduled to go to polls in a single phase on April 23 and counting of votes will take place on May 4.
