‘Unpublicized President’s rule’: CM Mamata on transfers. india news
Kolkata: CM Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said the massive transfer of senior IAS and IPS officers within Bengal by the Election Commission was a form of “unprofessional President’s rule”.Banerjee posted on Twitter that the Election Commission’s actions were “a deliberate conspiracy to gain control of Bengal through coercion and institutional manipulation”.
Before writing to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, he urged the Election Commission to refrain from such “arbitrary, unilateral and biased” action, saying, “What we are witnessing is nothing less than an undeclared emergency… motivated by political vendetta, not democratic principles.”The Election Commission had transferred more than 60 officials from Bengal till Wednesday.“With key administrative and police leadership taken away, the state may not be able to respond effectively,” Banerjee said, adding that the Election Commission should be held responsible for any failure to maintain law and order.Banerjee’s protest came as the Election Commission on Thursday banned some inter-state transfers of senior police officers. Bidhannagar CP Muralidhar Sharma and Siliguri CP Syed Waqar Raza were asked to go to Tamil Nadu, but were asked to wait. Later, the Tamil Nadu transfer orders of Barrackpore CP Praveen Tripathi and Howrah CP Akash Magharia and Karnataka transfer orders of outgoing Birbhum Amandeep were also stayed.
