New Delhi: Informal Group of Ministers (IGOM) chaired by Defense Minister. -Rajnath Singh On Wednesday directed all departments to focus on preparedness, coordination and resilience building to be ready to deal with any situation due to conflict in West Asia.In a post on Twitter, Rajnath said the government is ensuring continuous availability of LPG, petrol and diesel, fertilizers to farmers and facilitating the supply of essential commodities in the country. The IGOM was informed that India has ensured the evacuation of the highest number of ships from the Strait of Hormuz in the last 40 days compared to any other country. Eight LPG ships carrying approximately 340TM, equivalent to about 11 days of India’s import requirement, have successfully transited the strait, strengthening the country’s energy security and supply stability.Ministers and top government officials were apprised of the steps taken to address the issues, including doubling the supply of 5 kg free trade LPG cylinders beyond the earmarked 20% allocation for priority sectors to support vulnerable communities, including migrant labourers.“Oil PSU retail pump outlets continue to dispense auto LPG to support public transport requirements. However, private operators are facing some supply constraints due to their procurement challenges, leading to increased footfall at PSU outlets,” an official statement said. The IGOM was also briefed on the softening of energy prices in the wake of the ceasefire. The Ministers were informed that key regional parameters will be closely monitored and appropriate measures will be taken.
