‘Historic state visit’: King Charles III to visit US from April 27-30 for first time as monarch, Trump confirms

'ऐतिहासिक राजकीय यात्रा': किंग चार्ल्स III सम्राट के रूप में पहली बार 27-30 अप्रैल तक अमेरिका का दौरा करेंगे, ट्रम्प ने पुष्टि कीThe visit, which will also be attended by Queen Camilla, is being framed by the palace as an effort to strengthen bilateral relations at a moment of tension between London and Washington. The visit coincides with America’s 250th anniversary of independence and will be followed by a separate visit to the British Overseas Territory of Bermuda. It comes as tensions between the nations’ so-called “special relationship” have risen in recent weeks, with Donald Trump publicly criticizing Prime Minister Keir Starmer over Britain’s stance on the US-Israeli military campaign against Iran. Trump has accused Starmer of failing to provide adequate support, especially after London initially refused to allow US aircraft to operate from UK bases for strikes on Iran.Domestic opposition has also emerged in Britain. Senior Labor MP Emily Thornberry has suggested postponing the visit, citing the risk of diplomatic awkwardness during an active conflict, while Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey has questioned the prospects of going ahead.Still, the British monarchy’s diplomatic role, often described as “soft power,” is seen by officials as a stable channel in relations with Trump, who has consistently expressed admiration for the royal family.“Melania and I are pleased to announce that Their Majesties, the King and Queen of the United Kingdom, will visit the United States for an historic state visit from April 27-30, which will include a gala dinner at the White House on the evening of April 28,” Trump said in a statement announcing the visit at the Truth Social.“This momentous occasion will be even more special this year as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of our great nation. I look forward to spending time with the King, whom I greatly respect,” he said. The upcoming visit will be the first state visit to the US by a British monarch since Elizabeth II visited in 2007. It also follows Trump’s own high-profile state visits to the UK, including a visit hosted by the late queen in 2019 and another hosted by Charles last year.

'Let the singer rest in peace': Assam CM Himanta attacks Congress over mention of Zubeen Garg in election manifesto
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma

New Delhi: Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma On Tuesday accused Congress of indulging in “disgusting politics” by involving the singer’s issue. Zubeen GargIt said in its election manifesto on the death of the late singer that the party had committed “an unpardonable crime” by invoking the late singer’s name for votes.Speaking on the sidelines of the BJP’s manifesto release event here, Sarma said Zubeen Garg was very much loved by the people of Assam and using his name in the election campaign was “unfortunate and sad”.He said, “The Congress has committed an unpardonable crime by including Zubeen’s name and his death in its election manifesto. If the Congress wants to pay a true tribute to Zubeen, they can appoint a lawyer… They can bring in Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who can argue the case for free in the fast-track court.”The comments come after Congress in its manifesto released by party president Mallikarjun Kharge promised to give justice to the singer within 100 days of coming to power.Sarma said the issue was already being heard in the court and claimed that the Congress was unaware that a fast-track court had been constituted and daily hearings had already begun. He said, “No one has done such disgusting politics by bringing up Zubeen’s name to seek votes…people will punish the party severely in the elections.”The Chief Minister said the government cannot decide the outcome of the case and can only facilitate the legal process by setting up courts and appointing prosecution lawyers. He said, “I want justice to be given in less than three months, maybe within a month. I believe that the way the proceedings are going on, it will not take even 100 days to give justice and I hope that within a month we will get good news.”The Gauhati High Court had appointed a special fast-track sessions court on March 16, and the state government later provided logistical support for its functioning.Zubeen Garg, 52, died on September 19 last year while swimming in the sea in Singapore, where he had gone to attend the fourth North East India Festival (NEIF).After his death, the Assam government formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the CID wing of Assam Police to investigate the case. The SIT later filed a charge sheet before a local court in Guwahati, naming seven accused, all of whom have been arrested and are currently in judicial custody.Sarma also attacked the Congress leadership and alleged that Kharge had insulted both Bhupen Hazarika and Zubin Garg, also referring to comments allegedly made by Kharge’s son.“Kharge’s son has insulted the youth of Assam by saying that there are no talented people to work in the semiconductor industry in the state… Will people believe that they can give justice to Zubeen Garg? Sarma said. The Chief Minister further alleged that a video circulated on social media showed people from a consultancy firm appointed by the Congress discussing how the issue of Zubeen Garg’s death should be raised at various levels to secure votes.“If I become chief minister again, I will ensure that all the members of this company are arrested for their involvement in such dirty politics and conspiracy. I will not spare anyone doing politics in the name of Zubeen.Sarma said he did not want to politicize the singer’s name and would visit his memorial again only after taking oath as the chief minister.“Zubeen himself had said ‘rajneeti nokoriba, bandhu’ (don’t get involved in politics, friends), but that’s all Congress is doing…let the singer rest in peace,” he said.He also questioned why Congress leaders visit the singer’s memorial with cameras.

Green card, US citizenship update: USCIS says pre-investigation was inadequate, immigration ban is under continuous review

ग्रीन कार्ड, अमेरिकी नागरिकता अपडेट: यूएससीआईएस का कहना है कि पूर्व जांच अपर्याप्त थी, आव्रजन प्रतिबंध की लगातार समीक्षा की जा रही है

USCIS provides update on immigration ban

US Citizenship and Immigration Services announced what they found after the Donald Trump administration halted all immigration from certain countries, while the agency was tasked with checking whether all checks were in place and whether they were adequate. The administration is known for its anti-immigration sentiment, but the DC shooting in November 2025, where the shooter was an Afghan refugee, prompted unprecedented restrictions on multiple countries. The administration announced that it would not allow any immigration requests for high-risk countries. The agency provided an update on what it found on March 30. The update came after several organizations reported that the US administration has committed a major immigration fraud by stopping immigration to more than 50 countries because they charged application fees but there was no update on the decision of the cases. USCIS said it found that the screening and testing measures that were in place were grossly inadequate. Many applications for naturalization and lawful permanent residence were not adequately investigated. Applications were approved and individuals were naturalized who should not have been.

Asylum > Green Card > Naturalization

The target of this review process was asylum seekers in the US who eventually become US citizens eligible for all federal benefits. Asylum seekers may be from any country where they fear persecution or their country is facing some crisis, disaster etc. Once granted asylum, they can live and work in the US. After living as a refugee for a year, they can apply for a green card. Once they have a green card, they can apply for citizenship through naturalization.

What did USCIS review?

  • USCIS has reviewed and updated screening and investigation practices, including: Shortening the validity period of certain employment authorization documents to require more frequent security checks.
  • Updating photograph reuse policies to strengthen identity verification, including biometric identity verification, when reusing fingerprints.
  • Increase in social media and financial investigations and community interviews.
  • Launching Operation Paris to conduct additional background checks, re-interviews, and eligibility reviews of refugee claims led by the USCIS Vetting Center.
  • Developing system connectivity for biometric matching and automatic notifications of new criminal information.
  • A final arrest encounter review and State Department consular consolidated database check is required before a final decision is made.

USCIS said it has established an internal process for lifting holds on individual or group cases, which requires extensive review by multiple offices. The ban on aliens vetted through Operation Paris, certain petitions filed by U.S. citizens, intercountry adoption forms, certain rescheduled swearing-in ceremonies, issuance of statutory and regulatory adjudications, refugee registrations for South African nationals/nationals, certain special immigrant visa petitions, certain employment authorization documents, and asylum applications from non-high-risk countries has been lifted. USCIS has compiled information about each country listed in the travel ban proclamations and is working with the State Department to identify risk factors, including indicators of fraud, public safety or national security risks. The agency is also developing a layered vetting plan, which includes access to classified and unclassified information, as well as expanded criminal history checks, identity verification and ad-hoc security checks to close security gaps.

‘Get your own oil’: Trump mocks Britain, other countries amid Iran pressure on Hormuz; France criticized for being ‘unhelpful’

'Get your own oil': Trump mocks Britain, other countries amid Iran pressure on Hormuz; France criticized for being 'unhelpful'

US President Donald Trump lashed out at allies on Tuesday over rising fuel prices, mocking the United Kingdom and other countries hit by the disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, telling them to “get their own oil” amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. He criticized France as “unhelpful” in relation to the ‘butcher of Iran’ and claimed that the United States would remember. In a series of posts on Truth Social, Trump said that countries facing jet fuel shortages due to the situation in the Strait of Hormuz should rely on themselves. He said, “All those countries that can’t get jet fuel because of the Strait of Hormuz, like the United Kingdom, which refused to join in the beheading of Iran, I have a suggestion for you: No. 1, buy from America, we have plenty of it, and No. 2, gather some late courage, go to the Strait and take it.”“You have to start learning how to fight for yourself, USA. No longer there to help you, just like you weren’t there for us. Iran has been essentially destroyed. The hard part is done. Get your own oil!” He added.Trump also criticized France, accusing it of being “inept” in eliminating “the butcher of Iran”.He wrote in a separate post, “The country of France will not allow Israel-bound planes loaded with military supplies to fly over French territory. France has been very unhelpful in relation to the ‘Butcher of Iran’, which has been successfully eliminated! The United States will remember!!!”Trump’s comments came after fresh US strikes on a city at one of Iran’s key nuclear sites, causing a massive firestorm, while Tehran retaliated by attacking a fully loaded Kuwaiti oil tanker in the Persian Gulf. The conflict has killed more than 3,000 people and severely disrupted global supplies of oil and natural gas.Tensions have also increased around the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route through which about a fifth of the world’s oil passes. The narrow waterway linking the Persian Gulf to the Indian Ocean is now effectively closed, sharply reducing maritime traffic and disrupting the movement of container ships, bulk carriers and oil tankers. The disruption, along with Iranian attacks on regional energy infrastructure, has sent global oil prices soaring and spooked financial markets. International benchmark Brent crude was hovering around $106 a barrel on Tuesday, up more than 45% since the war began on February 28.Amid rising tensions, Trump warned that the United States could escalate its military offensive if the situation did not improve. He said that if a ceasefire was not reached “soon” and the Strait of Hormuz was not reopened, Washington could target key Iranian infrastructure, including the Kharag Island oil export hub and possibly desalination plants.“The United States is in serious discussions with a new and more just regime to end our military operations in Iran,” Trump posted.“But, if for whatever reason there is no agreement soon, which there probably will be, and if the Strait of Hormuz is not immediately ‘open for business’, we will end our lovely ‘stay’ in Iran by blowing up and completely destroying all of our power generation plants, oil wells, and Kharg Island (and possibly all desalination plants!) that we have not knowingly ‘touched’ yet.”The warning follows Trump’s decision last week to give Iran a 10-day cooling-off period, which he described as a response to Tehran’s “gift” when it allowed eight oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz and halted planned attacks on energy infrastructure.“He said to me very nicely through my people, ‘Can we get more time?’ Because we’re talking about tomorrow night, which is very early, and if they don’t do what they have to do, I will shut down their power plants,” Trump told Fox News.

Iran claims to have shot down two US MQ-9 drones – shared video

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed its air defense systems shot down a US-made MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial vehicle over the central city of Isfahan on Tuesday. In a statement, the IRGC said the long-range drone was “intercepted and destroyed” by an advanced system that forms part of Iran’s integrated air defense network. Iranian local media shared a video claiming the attack, saying, “The moment of impact and explosion of two MQ-9 drones in the airspace of Isfahan last night.”Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, Iran also claimed earlier this week that it had destroyed a US E-3 Sentry surveillance aircraft during a missile and drone attack on Prince Sultan Air Base near Riyadh on March 27. The base, a major hub for US military operations, reportedly suffered significant damage, with at least 12 US service members injured. Images circulated on social media reportedly showed the plane burned, although the claim has not been independently confirmed.Reports identified the aircraft as serial number 81-0005, which was parked on a taxiway at the time of the attack. While it is unclear whether it was directly attacked, according to military website War Zone, defense experts say it could also have been destroyed by a nearby explosion due to shrapnel impact and high risk of fire.
