New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday observed that the denial of Permanent Commission (PC) to women Short Service Commission (SSC) officers in the armed forces stems from a flawed and discriminatory evaluation system, especially the way their performance was evaluated.While delivering its verdict, a bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices Ujjal Bhuyan and N Kotiswar Singh said that the Annual Confidential Reports (ACRs) of women officers were often evaluated carelessly, thereby reducing their chances of securing PC.According to Live Law, the bench said, “The ACR of the appellants was written with the presumption that they would not make career progress. The overall merit was adversely affected.”The bench further said, “The model was rational, non-discriminatory and was implemented as a one-time measure. The failure of the respondents to disclose the evaluation criteria etc. has adversely affected the authorities.”The decision comes after a protracted legal battle in which women officers had challenged the criteria used to evaluate them, arguing that it puts them at a disadvantage compared to their male counterparts.During the last hearing, the Center had denied the allegations of bias. It also submitted that after the 2022 approval, women officers are now being inducted through the National Defense Academy, and those who complete the training will be directly awarded PCs.Earlier reserving its judgment, a bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant was informed by Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati that structural changes have already been initiated to address gender disparities in the forces.However, the court remained critical of the evaluation process. During the hearing, it raised questions as to why women and men were assessed differently despite undergoing similar training and work.“How can there be two criteria based on gender? Is there a different format for evaluation of SSC women officers and male officers? Is the format different for SSC officers and those in the Permanent Commission?” The bench had asked.Senior advocate Maneka Guruswamy, appearing for 13 women officers, argued that their ACRs were carelessly classified and, in some cases, frozen before they were eligible for PC in 2020. In contrast, male officers continued to be evaluated with PC in mind.He pointed to the service records of officers like Lt Col Vanita Padhi, Lt Col Chandni Mishra and Lt Col Geeta Sharma, who had served in UN missions, high altitude areas and counter-insurgency operations. Despite holding key operational roles, including ‘criteria appointments’ in difficult areas, their contribution was not fully recognized in their appraisal reports, unlike similar postings held by male officers.The court said that such differential treatment could violate the constitutional guarantee of equality under Articles 14 and 15, and reflect entrenched biases within the system. Guruswamy also said that many women officers were denied pension and medical benefits proportionate to their service conditions.The petitioners relied on a 2020 Supreme Court judgment that had directed the Army to grant PC to women officers and held that excluding them from command roles was unfair and hindered career progression.Since then, the court has passed several orders expanding the scope of PC for women in the Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard.The case also included arguments from serving and retired officers, as the court examined similar concerns across different branches of the armed forces.

अखिलेश यादव ने कहा कि बीजेपी लाल टोपी और लाल सिलेंडर से डरती है. उन्होंने एलपीजी की कीमतों और वजन को लेकर भी सवाल उठाए. उन्होंने बताया कि पहले बोरा चोरी हुआ, फिर 14 किलो का सिलेंडर 10 किलो का कर दिया गया. उन्होंने तंज कसते हुए कहा कि ऐसा भी हो सकता है कि सरकार लोगों से रोटी का आकार भी छोटा करने को कहे. उन्होंने इसे आम जनता के साथ अन्याय बताया.

विदेश नीति और युद्ध पर उठाए सवाल
अखिलेश यादव ने ईरान-अमेरिका तनाव को लेकर सरकार की विदेश नीति पर भी सवाल उठाए. उन्होंने कहा कि देश को ‘विश्व गुरु’ बनाने का सपना दिखाया गया था, लेकिन अगर ऐसा होता तो भारत युद्ध रोकने में सक्षम होता. उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि प्रधानमंत्री विदेश दौरे पर हैं, लेकिन हालात को देखते हुए बेहतर कूटनीतिक कदम उठाए जा सकते थे. उन्होंने कहा कि अगर भारत ने मजबूत भूमिका निभाई होती तो युद्ध टाला जा सकता था.

विपक्षियों पर कार्रवाई से नाराजगी
उन्होंने प्रधानमंत्री के उस बयान पर भी प्रतिक्रिया व्यक्त की, जिसमें उन्होंने कहा था कि युद्ध के दौरान कुछ लोग राजनीति कर रहे थे. अखिलेश यादव ने कहा कि विपक्ष को अपनी बात रखने का अधिकार है, लेकिन सरकार झूठे मुकदमों में फंसाकर विपक्ष को परेशान कर रही है. उन्होंने कहा कि अगर सरकार न्याय नहीं दे पा रही है तो विपक्ष से सवाल पूछना गलत है.

कानून-व्यवस्था समेत अन्य मुद्दों पर भी हमला
वाराणसी की एक घटना का जिक्र करते हुए अखिलेश यादव ने कहा कि जिस शहर को क्योटो बनाने की बात हो रही थी, वहां अपराध बढ़ रहा है. उन्होंने आरोप लगाया कि छात्र को दौड़ा-दौड़ा कर मारा गया है. इसके साथ ही उन्होंने कहा कि अगर सरकार कोई अच्छा फैसला लेती है तो विपक्ष उसका समर्थन करेगा, लेकिन झूठे दावे स्वीकार नहीं किये जायेंगे. उन्होंने किसानों और विदेश नीति के मुद्दे पर भी सरकार को घेरा और कहा कि देश को मजबूती से खड़ा होना होगा.

Airport spokesman Doug Yackel said the violent arrests were unrelated to Trump’s directive.“We understand that federal officers were escorting two individuals on an outbound flight when this incident occurred,” he wrote in an email to The New Republic. “We believe this is an isolated incident and there is no reason to suspect the SFO will take wider enforcement action… We were not involved in or informed about this incident in advance. Airport operations continued without disruption and there was no impact on flights or passenger processing.“Utah state senator Nate Blouin wrote on Twitter, “I flew to San Francisco last night at 10 and due to a ‘security’ issue we were stuck on the tarmac for 30 minutes. यह एक्सप्रेसवे उत्तराखंड की खूबसूरत वादियों में आने वाले पर्यटकों, व्यापारियों, उद्यमियों और पहाड़ी राज्य से व्यापार के लिए राजधानी आने वाले आम यात्रियों के लिए गेम चेंजर साबित होगा। एक्सप्रेसवे के जरिए दिल्ली से देहरादून जाने में दो से ढाई घंटे लगेंगे, जिसमें अभी छह से साढ़े छह घंटे लगते हैं।

New Delhi: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday said the Drug Controller of India is intensifying its regulatory surveillance against illegal sale and promotion of weight loss drugs (GLP-1).According to the ministry, the move is aimed at ensuring ethical pharmaceutical practices in the drug supply chain.“With the recent introduction of several generic variants of GLP-1-based weight loss drugs in the Indian market, concerns have emerged about their on-demand availability through retail pharmacies, online platforms, wholesalers and wellness clinics. These drugs, when used without proper medical supervision, may have serious adverse effects and associated health risks,” the ministry said in an official statement.“Taking cognizance of the situation, the Drug Controller of India, in collaboration with state regulators, has initiated a series of targeted actions to prevent potential malpractices in the pharmaceutical supply chain and prevent unauthorized sale and use,” it said.The Ministry reminded that on March 10, a blanket advisory was issued to all manufacturers, clearly banning surrogate advertisements and any form of indirect promotion that could mislead consumers or encourage off-label use.The statement further said that enforcement activity has increased significantly in recent weeks, with audits and inspections conducted at 49 entities across a range of sectors. These included online pharmacy warehouses, drug wholesalers, retailers, and wellness and slimming clinics.The Health Ministry said, “Misuse of weight loss drugs without medical supervision can lead to serious health complications. Citizens are advised to use such drugs only under the guidance of qualified medical practitioners.”This drug has been approved in India with the condition that it will be prescribed only by endocrinologists and internal medicine specialists and by cardiologists for certain indications.

Gallantry award winning policeman dies, family members allege negligence in Hyderabad hospital (representative image)

Hyderabad: Madhapur police is investigating the death of 60-year-old reserve sub-inspector (RSI) Thallapalli Raja Sambaiah of Siddipet commissionerate after allegations of medical negligence were raised by his family. The gallantry award-winning police officer, who hailed from Karimnagar, died on Friday after alleged poor treatment at Yashoda Hospital in Hi-Tech City.Station House Officer (SHO) of Madhapur police station, D Krishna Mohan, said, “The body has been shifted to the Osmania General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem. We are waiting for the report. Further action, including legal opinion on the allegations against the hospital, will be taken based on the findings.”RSI’s family alleged that doctors ignored warning signs, performed surgery without adequate evaluation and delayed critical care. In the FIR obtained by TOI, the family said Sambaiah was admitted under the Bhadratha scheme (a welfare scheme for Telangana police personnel) on March 7 for removal of a gluteal lump (a lump on the hip), which had been present for years without any major complications.Sambaiah’s wife Tallapalli Tirupatamma said in the complaint, “Despite the patient having high blood pressure, diabetes and prior neurological concerns, the doctors failed to conduct major pre-operative tests such as MRI or CT scan. On March 9, my husband’s blood pressure rose to critical levels, and the anesthesiologist advised to postpone the surgery as it could lead to a brain stroke or serious complications. However, the surgery was performed on March 10.”He further said that, after the operation, Sambaiah was shifted to the general ward instead of the ICU. Within a short time, severe bleeding was observed from the surgical site, necessitating another emergency surgery. He further added, “He was later shifted to the ICU, where scans revealed a massive stroke. His condition worsened, brain damage increased from 50% to 90% despite further procedures and despite 20 minutes of CPR he ultimately died of brain failure.”Demanding strict action against the hospital, the family also asked the police to investigate whether medical protocols were violated and whether the Bhadratha scheme was misused during the treatment.Based on Tirupatamma’s complaint, Madhapur police registered a case under section 194 (suspicious death) of BNSS. Meanwhile, a source at Yashoda Hospital told TOI, “There is no wrongdoing or procedural lapse on our part. If the case goes ahead it will be established in the court.”

उत्तर प्रदेश में इन दिनों मौसम लगातार बदल रहा है। कभी तेज धूप तो कभी बादल और हल्की बारिश ने लोगों को हैरान कर दिया है. मौसम विभाग के मुताबिक, कमजोर पश्चिमी विक्षोभ के कारण राज्य में बादलों की सक्रियता बढ़ गई है, जिसके कारण कई जिलों में हल्की बारिश दर्ज की गई. इसका असर तापमान पर भी पड़ा है और अधिकांश जिलों में पारा सामान्य से नीचे पहुंच गया है. खासकर पश्चिमी उत्तर प्रदेश के इलाकों में मौसम का असर ज्यादा देखने को मिला है. आने वाले दिनों में भी मौसम में बदलाव जारी रहने की उम्मीद है.

कई जिलों में हल्की बारिश, बादलों की सक्रियता बढ़ी
मौसम विभाग के मुताबिक, मेरठ, आगरा, मुरादाबाद, बरेली और हरदोई जैसे जिलों में हल्की बारिश हुई है. यह बारिश कमजोर पश्चिमी विक्षोभ के कारण हुई, जिसके कारण आसमान में बादल छाये रहे. हालांकि ज्यादा बारिश नहीं हुई लेकिन मौसम ठंडा हो गया और लोगों को गर्मी से राहत मिली.

तापमान में गिरावट, कई जगहों पर ठंड का असर
बारिश और बादलों के कारण तापमान में गिरावट दर्ज की गई है. बरेली में अधिकतम तापमान 24.4 डिग्री सेल्सियस दर्ज किया गया, जो इस बार के हिसाब से काफी कम है. वहीं अयोध्या और बुलंदशहर में न्यूनतम तापमान 14.5 डिग्री सेल्सियस तक पहुंच गया, जिससे रात में ठंड का अहसास हुआ.

आज मौसम शुष्क, आंशिक रूप से बादल छाए रहेंगे
मंगलवार को राज्य में मौसम लगभग शुष्क रहने की संभावना है. हालांकि आसमान में आंशिक रूप से बादल छाए रह सकते हैं, लेकिन बारिश की संभावना बहुत कम है. दिन में हल्की धूप भी निकल सकती है.

26 और 28 मार्च से मौसम फिर बदलेगा
मौसम विभाग ने कहा कि 26 मार्च से एक नया पश्चिमी विक्षोभ सक्रिय होगा, जिसका असर पश्चिमी जिलों में दिखेगा. इसके चलते हल्की बूंदाबांदी हो सकती है और कुछ स्थानों पर तेज हवाएं चलने की भी संभावना है. 28 मार्च से एक और विक्षोभ सक्रिय होने की उम्मीद है, जिससे पूरे उत्तर प्रदेश में बारिश के संकेत हैं.
