New Delhi: A professor at a medical college on the outskirts of Bengaluru has been booked for sexual harassment after he allegedly re-entered the campus despite restrictions and propositioned a female student in the classroom, an incident which later turned into a violent confrontation.Police said the episode took place on March 23 at a private medical college in Nelamangala taluk and came to light after videos of the proposal were widely circulated on social media. In one clip, the assistant professor is seen addressing a class and claiming that a student had confessed his “feelings” to him. After this he proposes to her in front of his classmates and distributes chocolates. The student immediately objected, questioning whether he had ever expressed such sentiments and asking to take the matter to the principal. The professor insists that he told her “I love you” and claims there is CCTV evidence, which she demands to be shown to him. He then walks out of the classroom saying he will talk to her the next day.According to the FIR, the professor was already facing complaints from students over alleged inappropriate behavior and sexual harassment. The college had started an investigation and barred him from entering the campus until the results came.Despite this ban, he allegedly entered the campus on March 23 in violation of the order. The complaint said he “forcibly” held the student’s hand and behaved obscenely and inappropriately, causing distress to the students and disrupting the educational environment.Tensions rose immediately after the exchange in the classroom. The video shows the student again confronting the professor, hitting him with slippers, while other students also joined in, abusing and allegedly assaulting him.Based on the college principal’s complaint, the police have registered a case against the professor under provisions related to assault, sexual harassment and criminal trespass under the Indian Justice Code. Officials said further investigation is underway.
