‘No knowledge of Iran’s covert attack, Khamenei was controlling nuclear program’: Former Trump aide Joe Kent’s big claims after exit

'Israel did it, not America': Trump appeals Iran to stop attacking Gulf sites to avenge Pars gas attack

East donald trump Aide Joe Kent, who recently resigned as director of the US National Counterterrorism Center, made strong claims about Iran’s nuclear program and said Tehran is no closer to becoming a nuclear power.Kent also said that former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in the US-Israeli strikes, was “controlling his own nuclear program” and suggested that there was no justification for the war, which, according to him, Israel had involved the United States in.

‘Israel did it, not America’: Trump appeals Iran to stop attacking Gulf sites to avenge Pars gas attack

His resignation came amid the ongoing conflict in Iran, a key part of Trump’s aggressive strategy toward Tehran. Meanwhile, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has opened an investigation into Kent over alleged unauthorized disclosure of classified information.

No intelligence about major attack on Iran

In his first interview since leaving office, Kent rejected reports that Iran was planning a large-scale attack on the United States similar to the 9/11 attacks or the attack on Pearl Harbor.Kent said on the Tucker Carlson Podcast, “There was no intelligence that said, Hey, whatever day it is, on March 1, the Iranians are going to launch this big covert attack, they’re going to do some kind of attack like 9/11, Pearl Harbor, etc. They’re going to attack one of our bases. There was no such intelligence.”His comments contrast with repeated statements by Trump and the White House, which cited an “imminent threat” from Iran as justification for launching the strikes.

Khamenei ‘operated’ the nuclear program

Joe Kent further argued that Iran’s late supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in joint US-Israeli strikes last month, was controlling the country’s nuclear program.“I’m not a fan of the former supreme leader, you know, Ali Khamenei, though, he was controlling their nuclear program. He was preventing them from getting nuclear weapons,” he said, warning, “If you take them out, if you take them out aggressively, people are going to rally around that regime.”Asked by Tucker Carlson whether Iran was on the verge of acquiring nuclear weapons, Kent responded, “No, they were not,” adding that Iran’s strategy was “not to completely abandon the nuclear program.”

Israel’s role in the conflict blamed

Kent also claimed that Israel had effectively drawn the United States into the conflict and was exerting widespread influence over American policy in the Middle East.He referred to comments from Marco Rubio, who previously argued that Iran is an imminent threat because the US believes Israel is preparing to attack and that Iran would retaliate. Kent called this argument flawed, saying there was no indication that Iran would attack without provocation.“So, the imminent threat that the Secretary of State is describing is not from Iran. It’s from Israel,” Carlson asked.“Sure,” Kent replied. “And I think it speaks to the broader issue: who is in charge of our policy in the Middle East.”Resignation and FBI investigationKent, who has previously faced criticism for his alleged ties to far-right figures including white nationalists and Nazi sympathizers, focused heavily on Israel in his resignation letter. Some Republicans have accused him of promoting anti-Semitic conspiracy theories.Meanwhile, the FBI has opened an investigation into Kent over alleged unauthorized disclosure of classified information, according to a person familiar with the matter. The inquiry has been ongoing for several months and continues after Kent announced his resignation on Tuesday in protest of the US war with Iran.In his resignation letter posted on Twitter, Kent said he “cannot support sending the next generation to fight and die in a war that will provide no benefit to the American people.” He argued that Iran posed no imminent threat and accused Israel of misleading the administration into the conflict that began with US and Israeli attacks on February 28.

America’s response

Speaking in the Oval Office, US President Donald Trump rejected Kent’s assessment and said he had long disagreed with his views. Trump reiterated that Iran “was a threat” and said it was “a good thing” that Kent left office.

Is Shashi Tharoor in the race for Kerala CM? Congress MPs should reply

New Delhi: Congress leader Shashi Tharoor Dismissing speculations about his chances of becoming the next Chief Minister of Kerala, he said that he is not even in the race as he is not contesting the upcoming assembly elections. In an interview with PTI, the Thiruvananthapuram MP clarified that the Chief Minister should ideally be chosen from among the elected MLAs. “I am not a potential candidate for the post of chief minister,” he said, adding that since he is not contesting the elections, he does not need to focus on any one constituency. Instead, his role will involve campaigning “up and down the entire state” for the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF).

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor confident as Kerala elections approach, new candidates are facing shortage of time

Referring to Rahul Gandhi’s recent message to party leaders to “dance together”, Tharoor described it as a “good message”, saying unity within the alliance is now visible. He also expressed confidence about the UDF’s prospects and suggested that a strong result would result in between 85 and 100 seats in the 140-member assembly.

Using a cricket analogy, Tharoor said the UDF was throwing a “googly” to the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF), arguing that the ruling coalition was on a “sticky wicket”. While he acknowledged that modern elections revolve around projecting a chief ministerial face, he supported the traditional approach of the Congress. “The Congress has never done this,” he said, explaining that the leadership prefers to choose a leader in consultation with MLAs after victory.Tharoor also admitted that the lack of a clear face could cause harm. “You and I may have different viewpoints… having a situation where you don’t have a visible leader in the state will inevitably hurt you,” he said. However, he argued that the organizational strength of the Congress throughout Kerala allows it to campaign “around one agenda, one mission and party logo”.Tharoor also downplayed the role of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Kerala, calling it a marginal player. “It is not a triangular contest because the BJP is a party with zero seats in the assembly,” he said, adding that even a gain of “one or two or three” seats would be seen as a major success for the party. He stressed that the real contest is between the UDF and the LDF led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. While he said the polling indicated a tight contest, he added that the BJP “is also unlikely to have enough of a footprint to become the kingmaker”.Kerala will go to polls in a single phase on April 9 in a closely monitored battle to oust the current LDF government from power, with counting taking place on May 4.

Iran Israel War: Israel bombs South Pars: Why is this gas field so important to Iran and the world?

Israel bombs South Pars: Why is this gas field so important to Iran and the world?
South Pars Natural Gas Field (Agencies)

The already tense situation in the Middle East escalated sharply on Wednesday when Israel attacked an Iranian production facility in the South Pars gas field, which Iran shares with Qatar in the Gulf. The attack comes amid a broader regional crisis sparked by a joint US-Israeli military operation in late February that killed Iran’s longtime leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.South Pars, the world’s largest gas field, is a major source of domestic energy for Iran, which already suffers from frequent gas and electricity shortages.

US President Donald Trump expressed surprise at the attack, saying “the United States knew nothing about it,” and denied any involvement. However, according to AP reports, Washington was informed in advance of Israel’s plan to target the offshore gas facility, but did not take part in the operation.

“The United States knew nothing about this particular attack, and the country of Qatar was not involved in it in any way, shape, or form, nor did it have any idea that it was about to happen,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Should the international community intervene in the conflict between Israel and Iran?

Since launching a large-scale military campaign on February 28, Iran has expanded its retaliation beyond military targets to include oil and gas infrastructure across the region, raising global concerns given the Gulf’s importance to energy supplies.Watch: Iran’s missile hits Qatar’s Ras Laffan, the world’s largest LNG hubThe attack on South Parc is the first time in this conflict that a major fossil fuel production facility has been directly targeted.

What has been targeted in recent days?

On Tuesday, an Iranian drone attack led to the suspension of operations at the Shah gas field in Abu Dhabi. The site produces about 1.28 billion standard cubic feet of gas per day and supplies about 20 percent of the UAE’s gas and 5 percent of the world’s granular sulfur used in fertilizers. On Wednesday, Israel attacked Iran’s South Pars gas field. The field is the largest in the world and is the backbone of Iran’s energy system.

Why does the South Park strike matter?

The South Pars gas field, the largest known in the world, covers approximately 9,700 square kilometers in the Persian Gulf. The damage to South Pars could worsen Iran’s already severe energy shortage. The field contributes up to 70 percent of Iran’s gas production. Initial reports suggest that sections contributing about 12 per cent of total production may have been affected. The attack has also raised fears of wider tensions, with both sides now targeting critical energy infrastructure. Experts have warned that such attacks could have long-term consequences for global energy markets.Oil prices have already risen on concerns of supply disruptions following the strike. Analysts say if production facilities suffer major damage, recovery could take years.According to Guinness World Records, it is estimated to contain approximately 51 trillion cubic meters of gas.Oil prices have already surged following news of the strike, with Brent crude rising more than 5 percent to more than $110 a barrel. The field is shared by Iran and Qatar, with the Qatari side first exploring it in 1971.The attack is also the first reported attack on Iran’s main energy infrastructure.

How is the sector responding?

Iran has warned of further retaliation and listed major oil and gas sites in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar as potential targets. An explosion was later reported in Riyadh.Qatar blamed Israel for the attack, calling it a “dangerous and irresponsible” escalation that threatens global energy security. The UAE also warned that the attack threatened both regional stability and global energy supplies.

Why can’t the repairs be done quickly?

Once damage occurs, repair is never easy and the consequences can be lengthy and devastating. Despite its scale and importance, the key question still remains: can the South Pars gas field be repaired quickly?

Watch

Iran blows up ship near UAE for violating Hormuz sanctions; IRGC shuts down oil, gas facilities in three countries

Past experience suggests that recovery may take longer than expected. It fell after the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Saddam HusseinRebuilding the damaged energy infrastructure proved to be a slow and complex process. The Bush administration pledged that reconstruction would be funded through oil revenues. However, despite access to facilities and nearly $2 billion spent on oil projects, it took more than two years for production to return to pre-war levels.Recently, efforts to repair Ukraine’s electricity infrastructure following Russian attacks have also faced major delays, with equipment shortages and logistical bottlenecks slowing progress. These examples highlight that restoring large-scale energy systems after conflict is a difficult and time-consuming task, raising concerns about how quickly South Pars can recover.

Big impact beyond energy

Energy production in the Gulf is not just about economics – it plays an important role in political stability and regional relations. Countries depend on energy revenues to support their economies and maintain social balance. The South Pars region has also served as a bridge between Iran and Qatar in the past. The latest attack has raised concerns that deepening conflict could not only disrupt energy supplies but also weaken regional ties. With continued attacks and counter-attacks by both sides, the situation risks further escalating, putting critical global energy infrastructure at risk.

Yuzvendra Chahal quits alcohol before IPL 2026, eyes on winning PBKS title

To enter the upcoming IPL 2026 season with better confidence and fitness levels, Yuzvendra Chahal has made personal lifestyle changes and has decided to quit alcohol consumption. Chahal, who will be a part of the Punjab Kings team for the new season, opened up about his personal life during a podcast with AB de Villiers. Chahal, after a poor start, enjoyed good performances during his first season with PBKS in 2025.

The leg spinner took 16 wickets in 14 matches and PBKS reached the final, where they were defeated by RCB. Chahal told de Villiers that his aim is to snatch the IPL title with Punjab and he is looking forward to performing well during the tournament. The spinner also said that the decision to give up alcohol was taken due to the fact that he wanted to be a role model for the young players in the team.

Chahal said, “It has been more than six months since I stopped drinking. I am 35 now, so I want to be more active and give my 150% for my team. As a senior player, I want people to learn something from me in the IPL.”

What made Chahal focus more on health?

Chahal revealed that he was disappointed with himself during IPL 2025 as he was not able to perform well due to rib and knuckle injuries. The spinner said that in the upcoming season, he wants to put his body first and ensure that he is playing at the peak of his powers.

“I was a bit disappointed with myself. After the KKR game, I fractured my rib and later fractured my knuckle. So in the semi-finals and the final, I was not able to bowl my proper leg-spin. This year, I want to take care of my body first,” Chahal said.

Chahal will also be hoping to use IPL 2026 to get back into the race for the Indian team. Chahal last played an international match for India in 2023 and has been out of the team since then.

‘Don’t put the cart before the horse’: Delhi Court rejects plea of Lalu Yadav, Rabri Devi seeking unreliable documents in land-for-jobs case

'Don't put the cart before the horse': Delhi Court rejects plea of Lalu Yadav, Rabri Devi seeking unreliable documents in land-for-jobs case

New Delhi: A Delhi court has rejected Lalu Yadav and his wife Rabri Devi’s plea seeking over 1,600 incriminating documents to prepare their defense in the land-for-jobs case hearing, saying these were prepared to “condemn Bhulbhulaiya at the very beginning of the trial”. Special Judge Vishal Gogne underlined that providing these documents en masse would not only “put the cart before the horse” but would also “completely disrupt” the judicial process. He also rejected the applications of two other accused – Private Secretary (PS) Lalu PrasadRK Mahajan, seeking an unreliable document, and a former appointing authority, former General Manager of Railways, Maheep KapoorAccording to news agency PTI, 23 unreliable documents are being demanded. Unreliable documents are materials seized by the investigating agencies but not relied upon in the prosecution complaint. The case of land in exchange for jobs pertains to Group D appointments in the West Central region. Indian Railways According to the Central Bureau of Investigation, in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, during Lalu Prasad’s tenure as Railway Minister between 2004 and 2009, land parcels were gifted or transferred by recruits in the name of the RJD supremo’s family or associates in exchange for land parcels. On May 18, 2022, a case was registered against Lalu Prasad and others including his wife, two daughters, unidentified public officials and private individuals. In a scathing 35-page order passed on Wednesday, Justice Gogne said the court’s statutory control over the trial “cannot be usurped by the accused under the guise of cross-examination” and there appeared to be a “latent intention” by the applicants to drag out the proceedings. The court said that it needs to record the evidence in accordance with the statutory provisions to ensure the right to a fair hearing and speedy conclusion of the proceedings. The court said that the accused were asking that all or some of the incredulous documents be made available before the defense preparations could be considered, implying that the supply of incredulous documents was being offered as a condition for the commencement of cross-examination. It said, “While preparation for cross-examination certainly involves projection of the defense (by way of questions or suggestions), such an exercise cannot be postponed on the self-serving prayer of the accused that they would be hampered in their preparation for cross-examination unless they have incriminating documents.” Underlining that the pleas were “untenable”, the court said the accused “cannot be allowed to impose any condition on the continuation of the judicial proceedings.” It states that it is not mandatory to provide documents regarding the title or rights of the accused in various judicial instances. The court said that in the absence of these at the beginning of the trial, they cannot claim prejudice in their defence. The court said that the accused was first given adequate opportunity to inspect the documents, which were part of the unreliable basket of evidence. The court said it did not think the accused were “wandering in the dark” as they had been asked to prepare for cross-examination of prosecution witnesses. It said that as per law, the trial was to be conducted on the evidence first cited by the prosecution, including the documents relied upon. The court said, “If the pleas of the accused are accepted, the outline of the trial, as recognized in the Code of Criminal Procedure (now BNSS), will change from a reliable (documented) template to an unreliable (documented) scenario.”The court said, “The ulterior motive or at least the effect of mass provision of unreliable documents to the accused would not only put the cart before the horse but would also throw the trial proceedings into complete disarray.” According to news agency PTI, the court highlighted that providing unreliable documents is “an additional discretion” to be exercised by it at the appropriate stage of the proceedings and such discretion would be governed by necessity and desirability.Judge Gogné said, “The reliable documents are only 421, while the unreliable documents are 1,675. The Court feels that the prayer for making available all the unreliable documents is designed to condemn the trial at the very beginning of the trial, and that too when the accused have not even begun to raise any specific defense by way of questions, suggestions or speculative defence.” He said that if the court had to decide on the relevance, necessity or desirability of producing hundreds, if not thousands, of unreliable documents before the witnesses had made a single statement and even before a single shot had been fired at them during cross-examination, it would be “merely consisting in expressing views on the relevance of the unreliable documents to the defence.” The judge also said he could discern an “latent” or “underlying intention” by the applicants to drag the proceedings into a process where the provision of 1,675 unreliable documents would be followed by a plethora of applications seeking missing or unclear documents.“The trial court must be mindful of the ulterior motives of the applicants apart from unfair consequences,” he said. With regard to Mahajan’s plea, the judge said it was “completely selfish” for him to argue that cross-examination would be hampered due to unavailability. CBI The file, which was not even a credible document. He said, “The Court would reiterate that the statutory scheme of the trial cannot be subverted so that the proceedings turn into a trial of unreliable documents to the detriment of reliable documents.” The court also highlighted the allegations against him in its order. Lalu Prasad Yadav That he allegedly misused his official position as the then Union Railway Minister to ensure appointments of certain persons to Group D posts in the Indian Railways. The court said that in alleged quid pro quo, the appointed candidates or their family members sold or gifted their respective lands to Lalu Prasad’s family members, and co-applicant Rabri Devi was one such member. It said Mahajan, his then private secretary, allegedly misused his official position, in conspiracy with him and others, to ensure several such appointments by transmitting the list of nominees promoted by Lalu Prasad to various general managers, including Kapoor, who were appointing authorities. On January 9, the court had ordered framing of charges against RJD supremo Lalu Prasad, his family members and others. It has framed charges against 41 accused and discharged 52 others in the case. Of the 103 accused named in the chargesheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation, five have died.
