Middle East flight chaos: Oman Air cancels services to 9 major destinations including Dubai and Doha amid Iran vs US-Israel war

ongoing geopolitical tensions in middle east Continuing to disrupt regional aviation, Oman Air has confirmed that flights to a number of international destinations will remain suspended until March 31 as airspace restrictions remain in place across the region. The Muscat-based airline said that although most of its network is operating normally, some routes are temporarily affected due to the evolving security situation and flight safety considerations.

Oman Air suspends flights to 9 destinations amid Iran vs US-Israel war

In its latest operational update, Oman Air announced that flights to and from nine cities will remain canceled until the end of March. Affected destinations include Dubai International Airport, Hamad International Airport, Amman, Bahrain, Dammam, Kuwait City, Copenhagen, Baghdad and Khasab. The airline said the decision was taken due to the closure of regional airspace, which is affecting flight routes throughout the Middle East. These restrictions have forced airlines to cancel or divert services while authorities monitor security conditions and potential security risks in the region. “Oman Air flights are operating normally with additional services on our network. However, some routes are temporarily affected due to the closure of regional airspace,” the airline said in a statement.

Oman air travelers advised to check bookings amid Iran vs US-Israel war

Passengers affected by the cancellation have been advised to manage their bookings through the airline’s digital platforms or contact customer care for re-booking and refund options. The airline also apologized to passengers for the disruption and said it appreciated passengers’ understanding and patience during the extraordinary operational situation.

Dubai, Doha routes affected: Oman Air cancels flights to 9 cities till end of March amid Iran vs US-Israel

Industry analysts say cancellations to major hubs such as Dubai and Doha could impact thousands of passengers who rely on Oman Air for regional connections to the Gulf and beyond. Oman Air’s announcement comes as airlines in the Middle East continue to adjust schedules in response to airspace restrictions and security concerns linked to the broader regional conflict. Many carriers have suspended flights, diverted planes or reduced services while officials assess the situation. The closure of airspace could significantly disrupt the aviation network as many international flight paths connecting Asia, Europe and Africa pass through the Middle East. When restrictions are imposed, airlines are often forced to take longer routes or suspend services altogether.

Aviation disruption in Gulf hubs amid Iran vs US-Israel war

The disruptions have also affected major aviation hubs in the region. Earlier in the day, operations at Dubai International Airport were temporarily suspended after a drone-related incident near the airport, forcing airlines to delay or cancel flights while authorities responded to the situation. Dubai’s flagship carrier Emirates initially halted operations and later gradually resumed flights in the morning after security checks were completed. The brief suspension highlighted how quickly security incidents can spread through global aviation networks. The Middle East plays an important role in global aviation, serving as a central transit hub connecting Europe, Asia and Africa. Airports such as Dubai, Doha and Abu Dhabi handle millions of passengers every year, making the region important for international travel and cargo logistics. When disruption occurs at these hubs, the impact is felt across airline networks around the world. Flights may be delayed, canceled or diverted, while passengers face missed connections and last-minute itinerary changes.

Travel shock: Oman Air cancels flights to 9 cities as airspace crisis deepens

Despite the disruptions, aviation authorities and airlines have stressed that passenger safety remains their top priority. Airlines are monitoring the evolving geopolitical situation and coordinating with international aviation regulators to determine when normal operations can resume. For Oman Air, the current suspension represents a precautionary measure designed to protect passengers and crew while the status of regional airspace remains uncertain. The airline said it would continue to review the situation and update its schedule accordingly. For travelers, the clear message is that flight schedules in the Middle East may remain unstable in the coming weeks as airlines react to developments in the region. Until restrictions on airspace are lifted and security conditions stabilize, disruptions on travel routes are likely to continue.

LPG situation 'worrying', government increased production by 36% in a fortnight

New Delhi: India’s domestic LPG production has surged by 36% in a fortnight to meet domestic cylinder demand, while the overall availability of cooking gas remains “worrisome”, the Petroleum Ministry said on Monday. Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, said consumers of both domestic and commercial LPG cylinders are being encouraged to switch to piped gas. He said city gas distribution companies have launched incentives to promote PNG connections, including free gas worth Rs 500 for domestic consumers by Indraprastha Gas in Delhi-NCR; Waiver of Rs 500 registration fee for domestic PNG connections and security deposit for commercial consumers by Mumbai-based Mahanagar Gas; and waiver of security deposit for all commercial connections by Bharat Petroleum. India is relatively comfortable as far as crude oil availability is concerned, with officials admitting that pressure on LPG supplies is evident due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a key chokepoint that witnesses the transit of energy supplies from West Asian countries to India. India imports about 90% of its crude oil requirements, 50% of its natural gas and 60% of its LPG requirements. More than half of India’s crude oil, about 30% of gas and 85-90% of LPG imports from West Asian countries go through the Strait of Hormuz. Unlike crude, LPG has no strategic reserves, and officials said gas was being arranged from any possible source. While India has partially mitigated the disruption in crude supply by sourcing oil from countries including Russia, gas supplies to industrial users have been reduced, and LPG availability for commercial establishments such as hotels and restaurants has been limited so that domestic consumers do not feel the pinch. While Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had earlier said India was tapping more sources such as the US, Norway, Canada and Russia for LPG, officials on Monday declined to share details on the additional cargo secured so far. Sharma said no dry-out has been reported at LPG dealerships and action is being taken against hoarding and black marketing. He said online booking has increased from 84% to 90%, and delivery authentication coverage has been increased from 53% to 72% to prevent diversion of cylinders at the distributor level.

KKR’s fast bowling problem: Winners 2024 off to a poor start to IPL campaign

Is it just bad luck or have Kolkata Knight Riders touched destiny that since the release of Mustafizur Rahman, the wrath of the fast bowling gods has been upon the franchise? Following the left-handed batsman’s forced exit from the Indian Premier League, the 2024 champions have seen injuries to two fast bowlers who were expected to anchor their bowling attack this season – almost as if the cricket gods have decided to test the depth of their team before the tournament has even started.

KKR’s hero Harshit Rana (Rs 4 crore) during the 2024 campaign and Mathisha Pathirana, bought for a whopping Rs 18 crore in the IPL auction, are not fully fit at present and are likely to miss a significant part of the upcoming season.

Rana, who required knee surgery in February 2026, Seen swinging on crutches at Naman Awards On 15 March. It is highly unlikely that he will play any role this season. Sri Lankan Pathirana, on the other hand, suffered a serious calf strain During the T20 World Cup 2026, which left him out of action midway through Sri Lanka’s campaign. As of March 16, there has been no official statement from his camp or KKR, who are yet to name a replacement.

Courtesy: Mathisha Pathirana Instagram Story

With their three key fast bowlers now effectively out of the picture – Mustafizur gone, Rana injured and Pathirana doubtful – KKR’s pace attack suddenly looks much thinner than it did on auction day.

What are KKR’s options?

The franchise will now have to rely on swing specialist Vaibhav Arora, largely unused Kartik Tyagi, out of the squad Umran Malik and red-ball specialist Akash Deep. Also standing out from the Indian quartet is the impressive Blessing Muzarabani, who was one of the main reasons for Australia’s exit from the T20 World Cup.

On paper, this is an attack that looks light on both IPL experience and proven quality. More importantly, it has deprived KKR of the diversity in which they had invested heavily. Mustafizur’s left-arm angle and Pathirana’s slingy, death-over threat were aimed at shaping the attack. Without them, the bowling unit begins to look one-dimensional – as if two key weapons are missing from the arsenal before the fight even begins.

The imbalance does not stop here.

Apart from Cameron Green, none of KKR’s top six offers any real bowling option. Finn Allen, Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi do not bowl. Rinku Singh may occasionally bowl an over, but it is unlikely that he will be asked to take up that responsibility. KKR’s best bet may be Ramandeep Singh at number seven, but if the team has to take one or two extra overs from him, then the work will continue for him too.

This leaves Rahane with uncomfortable options.

KKR can include Muzarabani as one of its main fast bowlers in place of Harshit Rana and Pathirana. But the second pace slot remains a puzzle. Will they trust Kartik Tyagi? Turn to Umran Malik and his raw pace? Or put your faith in the control of Akash Deep? For now, the answers are uncertain, and Rahane may find himself rolling the dice more often than he would like.

And the setting itself makes the challenge difficult.

Garden of Eden Trap

Eden Gardens remains one of the toughest venues for bowlers in the IPL. During the 2024 season, when the surface was a batting paradise, KKR failed to defend total score of 261 And 223 runs against Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals respectively. They also almost lost their first match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, only for Harshit Rana to pull them back into the contest with a nervy spell in the death overs.

If there is one way that gives KKR some control over their destiny, it is on the surface prepared at Eden.

Slow, entertaining pitches will bring their two trump cards – Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy – firmly into play. But that solution comes with its own dilemma. Such surfaces can blunt the power of hitters like Finn Allen, Tim Seifert and Cameron Green, who traditionally prefer speed on the ball.

And so KKR find themselves caught in a strange tactical paradox – the same conditions that can save their bowling can complicate their batting.

Therefore, life is unlikely to be straightforward for the defending champions. If KKR has to face a serious challenge, then Rahane, who has taken over the responsibility of captaincy this season, will have to make full use of his tactical skills.

For now, the signs resemble uneasy hints from an old story. The Pacers are falling one by one, replacements remain uncertain, and the season hasn’t even started. KKR will start this campaign on shaky ground, and unless the management really inspires something from the shadows of their dugout, the wrath of the fast bowling gods could continue to loom over their season.

Pakistan launches attacks on Afghanistan; Taliban says more than 400 people killed in hospital attack

Afghanistan on Tuesday accused Pakistan of carrying out an airstrike on a Kabul hospital treating drug addicts and said more than 400 people were killed in the attack.Pakistan denied the accusation, saying its strikes – also carried out in eastern Afghanistan – targeted only military and “terrorist” sites.Health Ministry spokesman Sharafat Zaman gave the death toll during a television interview with local media, the AP reported. He said all parts of the drug treatment hospital were destroyed. However, deputy government spokesman Hamdullah Fitrat said the death toll had risen to 400, while 250 were injured. Powerful explosions rocked the Afghan capital at around 9:00 pm local time, and plumes of smoke were visible from the Shahr-e-Nawa and Wazir Akbar Khan areas. Local television footage showed firefighters struggling to put out the blaze amid the ruins of the building.Taliban government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid wrote on Twitter that Pakistani forces had “once again violated Afghan territory,” calling the attacks a “crime” and “inhumane act.” He said most of those killed and injured were drug addicts and were undergoing treatment in hospital.Pakistan’s Information Ministry said the strikes “precisely targeted military installations and terrorist support infrastructure, including technical equipment storage and ammunition storage of the Afghan Taliban” and targeted Afghanistan-based Pakistani militants in Kabul and Nangarhar. It added that the locations were “being used against innocent Pakistani civilians.”The ministry said Pakistan’s targeting was “precise and careful to ensure no collateral damage.” It described Mujahid’s claim as “false and misleading” and intended to inflame sentiments and cover up “illegitimate support for cross-border terrorism”.Pakistan’s military has launched several attacks on Kabul in recent weeks as tensions have risen over allegations that Afghanistan’s Taliban government has harbored militants carrying out attacks inside Pakistan. The latest development came as deadly clashes continued along the countries’ shared border.Pakistan has repeatedly said that its army only targets Afghan posts and terrorist hideouts. Officials in Islamabad have described the situation as an “open war”, with clashes including several Pakistani air strikes on Kabul’s presidential palace. Asif Ali Zardari Said Afghanistan’s Taliban administration had crossed a “red line” by deploying drones, which left several civilians injured in Pakistan last week.In response, Pakistan’s air force attacked equipment storage sites and “technical support infrastructure” in Afghanistan’s Kandahar province over the weekend, saying the sites were being used for attacks inside Pakistan. Kabul said Pakistan attacked two locations, including an empty security site and a drug rehabilitation centre, causing minor damage. In Kabul, Afghanistan’s administrative deputy prime minister, Abdul Salam Hanafi, said it was the duty of all citizens to protect sovereignty. Speaking during a meeting with political analysts and media personalities, Hanafi expressed regret over the civilian casualties in recent Pakistani attacks and said the war was imposed on Afghanistan.
