Inside Lanzarote: The island of 100 volcanoes, where heat still rises from the ground, and white villages glitter on black lava

Lanzarote, one of the Canary Islands, seems a little surreal as soon as you arrive. The landscape is shaped by fire, yet softens over time. Black volcanic fields stretch across the land, broken up by bright white villages that almost glow under the Atlantic sun. This contradiction is immediate and a little disorienting. Nothing here feels overly polished or rushed. Life moves slowly, almost cautiously. Tourists reportedly expect beaches and sunshine, but what they often miss is something deeper. silence. space. And a strange, raw beauty that lingers long after they’re gone. The island of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands appears simple at first, but gradually it reveals layers of history, nature and art that feel closely connected to this land.

Lanzarote in Spain: land of volcanoes where fire shaped a timeless island landscape

Lanzarote is often described as the land of volcanoes, and that description is no exaggeration. More than 100 volcanic formations shape its surface. The land looks cracked and ancient, with fields of pitch black lava covering wide areas. In some places, the soil turns red or brown, depending on how the lava cooled centuries ago.Timanfaya National Park is the most vivid example of this volcanic past. The land there feels frozen in time. Great craters rise from the earth, and the surface still holds heat beneath it. Experts suggest that the last major eruptions in the 18th century completely changed the geography of the island. That violent history is still visible in almost every direction.Still, life has adapted. Small plants move through rocky ground. Dry bushes survive where technically they shouldn’t. It seems almost impossible, yet it continues.

artistic heritage of cesar manrique in lanzarote

One of the most important figures in the modern story of Lanzarote is César Manrique. He was a painter, sculptor and architect, but his influence went beyond mere art. They appear to have shaped how the island looks and feels today.Manrique believed that the natural landscape of Lanzarote should not be affected by modern construction. Instead, buildings should blend into the environment. This idea is visible throughout the island. His work includes sites such as the Jameos del Agua, Los Verdes Cave and the Mirador del Río, a viewpoint overlooking the island of La Graciosa. These spaces don’t feel forced or artificial. It seems that they are from the ground only. Locals often say that without Manrique, Lanzarote might have developed very differently, possibly losing much of its quiet charm.

From golden coves to black sand: Lanzarote’s beaches

Lanzarote’s beaches are diverse and surprisingly quiet compared to many other tourist destinations. Papagayo beach is often described as one of the most beautiful, with soft golden sand and sheltered coves. The water here varies between dark blue and clear green depending on the sunlight.Famara Beach offers a completely different experience. It is wide, winding and open. Surfers and windsurfers are often attracted to it, but even when people are present, it doesn’t feel crowded. The space itself creates a feeling of peace. There are also beaches with black volcanic sand, shaped directly by ancient eruptions. Each coastline feels different, yet they all share a common feeling of openness. The horizon never feels closer. It stretches endlessly across the Atlantic Ocean.

Lanzarote’s volcanic heat and unique wine landscape

Timanfaya National Park is one of the most visited areas on the island. The landscape there looks almost lunar. Deep lava fields, sharp rocks and silent craters dominate the scene. In some exhibits, guides show how heat still rises from just below the surface. The ground may become warm enough to cook food naturally. There is also a restaurant called El Diablo where food is prepared using this geothermal heat. It sounds unusual, but it is real and widely known among visitors. Nearby is La Geria, a wine-growing region that seems almost impossible at first glance. Grapes are grown in small pits dug in volcanic ash, with semicircular stone walls that protect each plant from the wind. This method seems simple, even improvised, yet it produces wines as distinctive as Malvasia. Experts say the volcanic soil gives the wine a unique character.

Lanzarote Island in the Canary Islands: a peaceful escape shaped by fire and sea

Lanzarote does not suffer from noise or excess. Instead, it provides space, peace, and contrast. White villages like Teguise sit peacefully against dark volcanic landscapes. The art blends into the natural rock formations. The beaches remain open and crowd-free even during peak hours. It feels like time behaves differently here. It slows down almost without permission. Some passengers leave early, while others stay longer than planned, reportedly unable to explain why.

Assembly Election Results 2026: Today the results of 5 houses will give the overall mood of the country. india news

Today the results of 5 houses will give the overall mood of the country.

New Delhi: BJP It is trying to defeat the opposition in West Bengal, one of its few remaining strongholds, while its rivals are expected to retain their hold in eastern and southern India with the results of five assembly elections – Bengal, Tamil NaduAssam, Kerala and Puducherry – set to take a look at the broader political mood of the nation. The results in areas concentrated in India’s south and east will echo nationally as the match-up, apart from pitting the BJP against its rivals, also involves intra-opposition battles. The results could have a serious impact on the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party faction, as the Congress has courted controversy by being soft in its partnership with the DMK and persistent inconsistency with the TMC in contrast to the Mamata-positive mood of other allies like the Samajwadi Party, JMM and RJD.At stake on Monday are the fate of two regional giants – DMK (TN) and TMC (Bengal) – who are also key members of the anti-BJP alliance. The MK Stalin-led DMK was considered safe in its southern bastion TN until superstar Vijay’s newbie TVK made a late charge to make the mandate uncertain. While the DMK is confident that Vijay has largely cut into the AIADMK votes, which will make its job easier, there are doubts in some quarters about how the “silenced” women have made their choice. An increase in such demographic shift towards the new party could pose a serious test to the DMK. Without Vijay’s entry, the DMK was likely to repeat its victory in the Lok Sabha against Jayalalitha’s post-AIADMK.But the most keenly watched thing will be the result in Bengal. Led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s extended campaign, the BJP is looking to expand its national footprint by conquering a new territory which has been its long-cherished dream. At the same time, Mamata Banerjee, who had launched an aggressive campaign to counter the BJP’s allegations, will be tested for her renowned resilience and connect with the grassroots. Exit polls have created confusion about the future of Bengal elections by giving different verdicts in favor of both the parties.BJP’s victory in Bengal will be one of its most important assembly victories. The state sends the third-largest contingent of MPs to the Lok Sabha, which will be a big plus for the party ruling at the Center in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. For the Congress, Kerala could be the end of its victory drought. Exit polls have predicted a victory for the Congress over the ruling Left Front. If the Left party loses, it will be without a government for the first time since 1977. But now the Congress’s failure – its third consecutive defeat in the state, which is otherwise famous for removing the ruling party from power – will be a debilitating blow to the already weak national party.Exit polls are almost unanimous in predicting a third consecutive victory for the BJP in Assam, the only state where it has a government in this round of elections. This would be a major achievement for the BJP, which won a majority in the state against the Congress in 2016, and has since marginalized the once dominant party with its campaign of religious polarization.Nevertheless, the exciting contest for Bengal will complicate the battle for other states. The state’s cultural roots and personality have been central to the BJP’s identity, but its standing as an unbreakable ‘secular’ fortress has been a sore point for the party. Now the taste of a victory will be even sweeter, and it will attest to the continued resonance of its agenda under Modi’s leadership. On the contrary, if Mamata succeeds in thwarting the BJP challenge, she will enhance her stature as one of the few grassroots opposition leaders capable of blunting the saffron onslaught at its sharpest in an election to be held under the shadow of SIR. A fourth consecutive victory, three of which are with the BJP government at the Centre, will tarnish his credibility in the opposition camp. The Union Territory of Puducherry is another assembly in the fray and the political fallout from its outcome is likely to be limited.

World Relays: India’s disappointing campaign ends with injury and DNF

India endured a forgettable performance at the World Athletics Relays, with injuries and Did Not Finish (DNF) results derailing their campaign on the second day of the competition on Sunday.

The biggest blow came in the men’s 4x400m relay, where India’s hopes of securing direct qualification for the 2027 World Championships in Beijing were dashed. Amoj Jacob suffered cramps during the race and was forced to pull out after receiving the baton from first leg runner Dharamveer Chaudhary, resulting in a DNF for the team. Rajesh Ramesh and Vishal TK were to race in the last two stages.

After failing to qualify for the finals on Saturday, India were competing in the second qualification round on Sunday, where the top two teams from each heat were to book their spots for the World Championships. The missed opportunity means India must now rely on the World Athletics Top List route, which is a far more uncertain and longer path to qualification.

Batten Falls Men’s 4×100

The failures continued in the men’s 4×100 meters relay, where a lack of coordination proved costly. Third leg runner Ragul Kumar fell on the track while attempting to hand over the baton to Gurinderveer Singh, due to which he was disqualified. Harsh Santosh Raut and Animesh Kujur raced in the first two legs. Kumar, who seemed to be in discomfort, had to be helped off the track by volunteers.

India’s struggles were further highlighted with the baton exchange in the women’s 4x100m event. The baton fell in the clash between Tamannaah and Nitya Gande, forcing Gande to turn back and take it back after initially leading. The team ultimately finished the race with a time of 53.09 seconds, in what proved to be a chaotic race.

Amidst the disappointment, there was one small positive for the Indian contingent. The mixed 4x100m relay team of Ragul Kumar, Nithya Gandhe, Animesh Kujur and Sneha SS set a new national record of 41.35 seconds, improving on the previous mark of 42.30 seconds set earlier this year. However, he could only finish sixth in his heat.

The mixed 4x400m relay team also missed out, with Teerthesh P Shetty, Kumari Saloni, Nihal William and Rashdeep Kaur finishing fifth in their heat with a timing of 3:19.40.

India’s campaign had already suffered a setback on Saturday when all five relay teams failed to reach their respective finals, missing out on direct qualification for the 2027 World Championships. Sunday’s events added to the disappointment, as injuries and errors led to a disappointing end to their campaign.

“Accused of sleeping with him…”: Diana Russini’s career takes a shocking turn as NFL world splits after Mike Vrabel’s downfall nfl news

"Accused of sleeping with him...": Diana Russini's career takes shocking turn as NFL world divided after Mike Vrabel fallout
Diana Russini’s future has become a major talking point following her exit from The Athletic amid the Mike Vrabel controversy. While some, such as John “Stugotz” Weiner, support them with open proposals, critics question their long-term value and access to sources. Analysts are divided, with some predicting a strategic comeback. Despite the uncertainty, his next move is expected to attract significant attention across the NFL media landscape.

The spotlight has not spared Diana Russini. If anything, it has become more intense. His sudden exit from The Athletic has shifted the conversation from what happened to what happens next. In the NFL media world, opinions are forming quickly. Some believe that his next move could redefine his career. Others are not so sure. Either way, the focus is intense and steady. The controversy involving Mike Vrabel has made Russini one of the most talked-about names in sports media. She has remained silent till now. That silence has only fueled speculation. Industry voices, podcasters, and insiders are now assessing its future in real time, and the reactions are far from unanimous.

Diana Russini’s next career move is drawing strong reactions from NFL media.

Support has come from unexpected corners. Media personality John “Stugotz” Weiner made his stance clear and left no room for doubt. Stugotz said, “I said if The Athletic fired her, I would hire her. They didn’t fire her. She withdrew from The Athletic and that offer stands forever.”That public support signals confidence in Rasini’s talent and staying power. Still, not everyone is convinced her road ahead will be easy. Some analysts have expressed concern over whether she can return to the same level of influence she once had.Criticism has focused on the nature of his role. Reporting at the highest level depends largely on trust and access. Now questions are being asked whether those relationships can be rebuilt. For some observers, that uncertainty changes everything.

NFL world divided over Diana Russini’s future after Mike Vrabel scandal

Skepticism has become blunt in some corners. Outkick’s Bobby Barak didn’t hold back when discussing its earning potential and long-term outlook. Baraka wrote, “Russini made nearly $1 million a year at The Athletic.” “She wouldn’t even come close to working as an assistant for a radio show in medium-sized markets.”He went on to question how his reporting role might evolve. “The issue is that his value is tied to NFL insight. I suspect sources will be more reluctant to talk to him now, because they’ll be accused of sleeping with him. I don’t think Russini will have much success in podcasting, even if that call goes to Every Daddy. Joy Taylor is trying to do this now by talking about her sex life, and the numbers are down,” Barack said.Others see a different way. Former executive David Samson suggests patience over panic. “I think his next career move will be well worked out and very strategically planned,” he said.Veteran voice John McClane adds a broader perspective on his visibility. “Mike makes millions and millions of dollars,” McClain said. “She can keep up the guard, even she can do that, but not to the extent that he can. Once she starts breaking out she’ll be more alone, because people who may not have recognized her at first, you don’t have to be a big NFL fan to know who Diana Russini is. Diana has been there a long time, but it’s mainly for NFL people. As of now, his next move is unwritten. But one thing is clear. The league, media and spectators are all watching closely.

Quote of the Day by Mahatma Gandhi: “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by how animals are treated there.” | world News

Quote of the day by Mahatma Gandhi:
Mahatma Gandhi (Image source: Wikipedia)

Throughout history people have often evaluated societies based on how well they have performed in science, economics, and government. Others have come up with better ways to tell whether real progress has been made. One such approach is Mahatma GandhiWhose words are relevant even today. His quote, “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by how its animals are treated,” makes people think about being kind and doing the right thing. This idea has become even more important in today’s world, where people are talking more and more about living sustainably, protecting the environment, and doing the right thing. People no longer see how animals are treated as a separate issue; Instead, they see it as part of a larger system that reflects human values. How a society treats everything from pets to wild animals to farm animals often shows how aware, caring, and committed it is to humane practices. This quote makes you think about how your daily actions fit into a bigger picture of right and wrong.

Today’s Quote by Mahatma Gandhi

“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by how animals are treated there.”

Understanding the Meaning Behind Mahatma Gandhi’s Quotes

Mahatma Gandhi’s quote gives us a simple but important idea. It says that a country is not truly progressing if it can see too many things happening. It’s also about how it treats people who can’t speak for themselves. In many places, people need to keep animals safe, healthy and alive. A society that values all forms of life shows that it cares about and respects people. But being rude or ignoring someone shows that you don’t care about your responsibilities. This approach connects ethical behavior to everyday actions, making it globally and historically relevant to individuals.

Reflection of moral values in society

The treatment of animals often reflects the moral framework of a community. Laws, policies, and social attitudes all contribute to shaping the way animals are treated. Many countries have passed laws to protect animals from abuse and ensure that they receive the care they need. These rules are about shelter, food, medical care, and keeping people safe. Steps like these show that people are trying to make development more humane. The quote highlights that moral progress is not only about human welfare but also about caring for other living beings.

Animal welfare and modern awareness

Over the years people have become more aware of how animals are treated. Around the world, campaigns, educational programs and talks have made people more aware of issues such as being a good pet owner, protecting wildlife and farming in a way that is good for animals.People all over the world are trying to help animals stop being hurt, save species from extinction, and show others how to treat animals well. These actions show that more and more people are beginning to understand how important animals are to the environment.Mahatma Gandhi thought that progress meant taking care of all living things, and this change fits with that idea.

The relationship between animals and the environment

Animals are very important to maintain the ecosystem in balance. They help keep natural systems healthy by pollinating plants and keeping populations of other species in check. When animals are hurt or their homes are destroyed, the entire ecosystem is affected. This can have long-term effects, such as loss of biodiversity and damage to ecosystems.Taking care of animals is good for the environment. The quote is more meaningful because it connects moral values to being aware of the world around us.

Everyday actions that show compassion

The way people treat animals in their daily lives also affects the bigger picture. You can make a difference by doing simple things like feeding and providing water to stray animals, adopting pets responsibly, and not buying items that harm wildlife. To help children learn about these things early, schools and community groups often support these types of activities. These efforts help everyone understand the importance of being kind to animals. The message of the quote can be seen both in policies and in how people act every day.

historical context of the message

People knew Mahatma Gandhi for his strong belief in being good and not committing violence. His philosophy included not just people but all living things. He talked about how important it is not to hurt animals and to take care of them when you don’t have to. This way of thinking was based on the idea that all life is connected. The quote shows that moral progress means looking at life as a whole, which is part of this bigger idea.

Legal frameworks and global efforts

Many countries have enacted laws to protect animals from abuse. These laws say things like how to take animals, how to kill them, how to keep wildlife safe, and how to use animals in research.International groups also help raise awareness and set standards. By making deals and following rules, countries can work together to stop illegal wildlife trade and other problems. All over the world, even in America, people agree with the idea of citations because they work that way.

Challenges that still remain

Things are getting better, but there are still many problems. People still talk about animal abuse, poaching and losing their homes in different parts of the world.Urbanization and industrial activities can sometimes lead to fights between people and animals. We need to work together to fix these problems by changing policies, educating people, and getting people involved in their communities. This quote serves as a reminder that moral progress is an ongoing process that must be monitored at all times.

Other famous quotes of Mahatma Gandhi

  • “Be the change you want to see in the world.”
  • “An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind.”
  • “The future depends on what you do today.”
  • “In a gentle way, you can shake the world.”
  • “Where there is love there is life.”

Why is this quote still relevant today?

The message still rings true because it talks about something that is true for everyone. As society changes, the need to find a balance between progress and kindness becomes more important.Climate change, loss of biodiversity, and living a good life for the environment are some of the problems that have made people think about the role of animals in the world. This quote makes these difficult topics easier to understand by talking about what is right and what is wrong. It also forces people and groups to think about what they do and how it affects other living things.

A comprehensive view of progress

People often use economic indicators, technological advancements, and improved infrastructure to see how far they have come. These are important, but they do not fully reflect the ethical side of development.Mahatma Gandhi’s quote gives us a new perspective to look at things. It says that real progress means being responsible, caring about other people, and valuing life.

Bengal SIR ‘threat’ to our jobs: Professionals, government employees reach court. india news

बंगाल एसआईआर हमारी नौकरियों के लिए 'खतरा': पेशेवर, सरकारी कर्मचारी अदालत पहुंचे

From teachers to doctors, SIR deletion has taken away voting rights from people in Bengal (file photo)

KOLKATA: A senior central government official at a PSU, an assistant teacher at a government school, a medical professional preparing for the national entrance exam and an insurance agent whose license depends on his voter status – all moved the Calcutta High Court last week with their livelihoods in danger after their names were removed from Bengal’s voter list during the SIR.Justice Krishna Rao told his lawyers that the petitions would be heard at a later date, with no relief given before the elections or, in the doctor’s case, before his examination. With the removal of SIR, voting rights have been taken away from 27 lakh people in the state. The four pending petitions now highlight a dimension that goes beyond voting rights.

petitioner flag fear of citizenship in election cleaning

The petitioners argue that for employees and licensed professionals, removal of names from the voter list brings their citizenship into question, leading to departmental action, termination of service and even cancellation of license. One of them, a 40-year-old PSU assistant general manager from Bhagabangola assembly constituency in Murshidabad, has been in service for more than a decade. His name had appeared in the draft roll published on December 16 last year, but he was called for hearing on a “clerical discrepancy” in his father’s name in the 2002 records. He submitted 11 documents but could not make it to the final list. His appeal before the designated tribunal yielded no results.“The sudden removal of my name from the list has created a cloud of doubt about my citizenship, which… may jeopardize my service benefits, or become a hindrance in continued employment,” his petition said. One such petition has been filed by an assistant teacher. Their lawyer, seeking an urgent hearing, told Justice Rao on April 28, “SIR has taken away a lot from these people, their right to vote is a significant loss. Now, these people are worried about their jobs and whether this deletion will complicate things in their professional lives.”A 52-year-old insurance agent from Tehatta, Nadia, whose name was included in the 2002 list, approached the court over the possibility of his license being cancelled. His lawyer said, “His position is not only a source of livelihood but also of public trust… The arbitrary removal of his name from the voter list directly threatens the validity of his insurance license and agency appointment.”For a 32-year-old medical professional from Nadia’s Kaliganj constituency, proving that he is a “true citizen” is a prerequisite for appearing in the Joint Entrance Examination for Institutes of National Importance, conducted by AIIMS Delhi and scheduled for May 16. His parents and three brothers passed the SIR exam, but he did not.The young man, who holds house staffships at Kolkata’s Sambhunath Pandit Hospital and Chittaranjan Seva Sadan, is hopeful that the judicial intervention will “not only restore (his) legal right to vote but also protect (his) career”.

Salman Khan expressed grief over the demise of his close friend Sushil Kumar; Kalam’s emotional tribute: ‘No tears for you brother, only memories and laughter’

Salman Khan expressed grief over the demise of his close friend Sushil Kumar; Kalam's heartfelt tribute: 'No tears for you brother, only memories and laughter'

Salman Khan Condoled the death of his dear friend Sushil Kumar in a touching post on Sunday. The actor, who rarely posts tributes, shared pictures and a deeply personal tribute on his social media handle.

Salman Khan remembered ‘brother’ Sushil Kumar!

Recalling their friendship spanning over four decades, Khan wrote, “This guy has been a brother for 42 years, the best, the kindest, the most helpful, even when he was sad, always smiling, dancing and even in the worst of situations, no pain, no stress. Be it financial, emotional, physical, he used to say that everything will be fine with a new bottom.”

Salman Khan paid an emotional tribute

The actor paid tribute to Kumar’s resilience and spirit, saying, “Sushil Kumar is his name or at least that was his name till 5 minutes ago, Farewell Bhai lived like a man, fought death like a heavyweight champion.”Opting to celebrate his friend’s life rather than mourn in grief, Khan further added, “No tears for you brother, only memories and laughter.” She further revealed that Kumar passed away peacefully, writing, “My darling died with a smile on her face, way to go brother.”Reflecting on life and loss, Khan wrote, “Some first, some later, all will know, don’t know when and how so do something.”He concluded the tribute by saying, “Now enjoy the excitement of your cigarettes and whiskey brother, I think I’m going to miss you a little.”

Salman Khan shared a picture with teary eyes

Sharing another teary-eyed picture on her handle, she wrote another long note which read, “Never stop someone who has to go. The one who had to call him will definitely go. There are four reasons for calling and one is that everyone has to go eventually.”2. A good man is called early.3. Have you not paid the rent, EMI, GST of Mother Earth, then this is an opportunity to pay that also.4- The one who goes last is the dirty, corrupt, dishonest etc. etc. He goes last, we will wait for him. Earlier, the whole crowd of wrong person used to stand up in the crowd and he was cut down. When did this happen? Karma comes upon there relatives and they don’t care.”Khan continued, “Enjoy, my brother. You left this planet.
