‘No grounds for review’: Supreme Court rejects Umar Khalid’s plea against denial of bail in Delhi riots case. india news
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday rejected a review petition filed against its earlier decision denying bail to accused student activist Umar Khalid in the 2020 Delhi riots case.“After perusing the review petition and the documents on record, we do not find any valid ground for review of the judgment dated January 1, 2026. Accordingly, the review petition is dismissed,” the court said.
In its January judgment, the top court had refused to grant bail to Khalid while granting relief to five co-accused. It observed that prolonged imprisonment cannot be considered a “trump card” or a “gateway to bail” even before the formal commencement of the trial.Umar Khalid has been booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in connection with the 2020 Delhi riots.
