Iran executed a man convicted of Mossad ties on Wednesday, the judiciary said, the latest string of executions against the backdrop of war with Israel and the United States, AFP reports.The judiciary’s Mizan Online identified the man as Mehdi Farid and said he was executed after being found guilty of “intelligence cooperation and espionage for the Zionist regime” under the grand crime of “corruption on earth.”“After the case was investigated and the final verdict approved, Mehdi Farid… was hanged this morning for his extensive cooperation with the terrorist spy service Mossad,” Mizan Online said.According to the report, Farid held a position in the civil defense unit within a sensitive organization and used his access to gather information and pass it on to the Mossad. His death sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court and he was hanged after the legal procedures were completed.It was not immediately clear when he was arrested or when he stood trial.Iran has executed several people in recent weeks, including those linked to the January protests, which Tehran alleges were instigated by Israel, the United States and opposition groups including the banned People’s Mujahideen. The ceasefire between Iran, Israel and the United States has been in place since April 8 and was extended by US President Donald Trump on Wednesday.
