Vijay’s much-awaited film ‘Jana Nayakan’ has reportedly suffered a major financial setback. It is being told that after the leak the film has suffered a loss of around Rs 70 crore.
OTT deal for ‘Jana Nayakan’ fails
Before the leak, the film had bagged a lucrative digital deal. According to Track Tollywood report, Prime Video had acquired the OTT rights for Rs 120 crore.
After the leaks surfaced, the platform reportedly terminated the agreement. This decision has affected the revenue recovery of the film.
The cancellation was not solely due to leaks. Reports suggest that release delays related to pending censor clearance also contributed to the move.
There has been a huge decline in new OTT offers for Vijay’s film
Reports say that KVN Productions has approached other digital platforms to secure a new deal.
However, the offer received was quite low. The new OTT platform reportedly bid Rs 50 crore for the film. This marks a steep decline from the earlier Rs 120 crore deal.
The film was leaked online on 9 April. Soon after, the producers initiated legal action against those responsible. The legal team representing KVN Productions LLP issued a public warning. It cautioned against sharing any leaked content, including clips, images or the full version of the film.
This leak caused a sharp reaction in the entire film industry. Chiranjeevi wrote, “The unfortunate leak of #Jannanayagan is something that concerns me deeply. Cinema is built on faith, effort and the collective dreams of many people. Such incidents impact all of us in the industry and remind us how important it is to protect our creative works. My thoughts and support are with the film team. Let us all take the responsibility to respect and protect cinema. Kill piracy. Save cinema.”
Sivakarthikeyan said, “Each film is made with the passion, blood and sweat of hundreds of people – please avoid piracy. Please wait for the theatrical release and watch it in theatres. GV Prakash Kumar posted, “Don’t support piracy. Respect talent and hard work. Film making takes a lot of blood and sweat. Painful.”
Karthik Subbaraj reacted, “Shocked by the leaking of footage from #Jannanayagan. Piracy is a crime…Please stop it before it completely destroys cinema and its people.”
Release plan of ‘Jana Nayakan’
Despite the challenges, the film is preparing for theatrical release. ‘Jana Nayakan’ has faced several delays in recent months.
The political action drama is now reportedly targeting a May 8 release. According to the report of Pinkvilla, this film can be released worldwide on 8 May 2026.
Official confirmation is still awaited from the manufacturers.
