Unfazed by rare disorder, Jai Hind student scores good marks in arts, now plans to pursue career in animation

Mumbai: “I never see him worried,” Sunil Jain says of his son Vihaan. That might sound reassuring to most fathers. For Sunil, it reflects something much deeper.Jai Hind College student Vihaan Jain, who suffers from Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a genetic disorder, scored 73.33% in the Arts stream this year – a result that has made his entire family proud.“He has a rare progressive disease,” says his father, adding that Vihaan stopped walking at the age of 15. His son’s calm approach towards life however has become a source of strength for the family. “As parents, we were worried during the exams, but he never got worried,” says Jain.Meanwhile, Vihaan credits his inspiration to the determination of his parents, who ensured that he continued his education despite physical challenges.Looking ahead, he hopes to pursue a career in graphics and animation, a field where he can channel his creativity.His father has no doubt about his ability. “He has a very sharp mind, he understands things very quickly,” he says.Beyond academics, Vihaan is an avid reader of fiction and a keen writer. “He keeps writing stories on his mobile phone, but never shows it to us,” says Jain.
