New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday expressed deep grief over the death of nine people in a massive fire that broke out in a residential building in Vivek Vihar area of Shahdara in the national capital. In a post on Instagram, the Delhi Chief Minister expressed her condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the incident. “The incident of fire in a building in Vivek Vihar is very sad. I am deeply saddened by the death of 9 people in this accident. The injured in the accident are being treated in a nearby hospital and I pray for their speedy recovery. My thoughts are with the affected families in this hour of grief.” I pray to God to give them the strength to bear this difficult time,” the Delhi Chief Minister wrote. According to Delhi Police, a fire broke out in a four-storey residential building in Vivek Vihar on Sunday morning, resulting in the death of nine people and injury to at least one person. Police said that five members of a family living on the second floor lost their lives. The deceased have been identified as Arvind (60), his wife Anita Jain (58), their son Nishant Jain (35), daughter-in-law Aanchal Jain (33) and their one-and-a-half-year-old grandson Master Akash Jain. Shikha Jain (45) from the first floor died in the accident. Another family living on the third floor also lost their lives in this tragic incident. The deceased include Nitin Jain (about 50 years), his wife Shaili Jain (about 48 years) and their son Samyak Jain (about 25 years). One injured person, identified as Naveen Jain (48), is currently undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital, officials said. Meanwhile, BJP MLA from Shahdara Sanjay Goyal also expressed grief over the incident. Short circuit is suspected to be the primary cause of the fire, which broke out in a building located in Block B of Vivek Vihar and quickly spread to all four floors, resulting in casualties, he said. Authorities are continuing to investigate the exact cause of the fire, while rescue and relief efforts are underway.
