In Murshidabad, West Bengal, Bharatiya Janata Party’s Gauri Shankar Ghosh ensured his victory by securing 1,14,443 votes. Shaoni Singha Roy of All India Trinamool Congress trailed by 82,922 votes.TMC’s Shaoni Singha Roy is contesting against BJP’s Gauri Shankar Ghosh on the Murshidabad seat in the 2026 assembly elections.Murshidabad assembly constituency had a total of 2,48,269 registered voters in the electoral rolls for the 2026 assembly elections, of which 1,26,372 were male, 1,21,896 female and 1 belonged to the third gender.Voting took place on 294 seats in West Bengal in two phases on April 23 and April 29, recording a combined turnout of nearly 93 per cent – the highest since independence and one of the largest in Indian electoral history. Notably, this increase was not limited to rural strongholds, but a dramatic rise was seen in urban centres, where women voters outnumbered men for record participation.Murshidabad is one of the 294 assembly constituencies of West Bengal, located in Murshidabad district and is part of the Murshidabad Lok Sabha seat. It is a general category constituency, which has seen close elections and changes in party control in recent years.There were 268,221 registered voters in Murshidabad in the 2021 assembly elections, of which 229,231 cast valid votes. The seat was won by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Gauri Shankar Ghosh, who secured 95,967 votes. Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Shaoni Singha Roy stood second with 93,476 votes, trailing by a slim margin of 2,491 votes.In the 2016 assembly elections, the constituency had 235,052 voters, with 201,150 valid votes recorded, showing a turnout of 85.58 percent. Indian National Congress candidate Shaoni Singha Roy won the seat with 94,579 votes. TMC candidate Ashim Krishna Bhatt stood second with 69,440 votes and lost by a margin of 25,139 votes.
