What is ICE detainer? what happens next?
The ICE detainer is a request from the agency to notify local law enforcement that these people are in the country illegally, and that ICE will take custody after they face removal justice. Such criminals are notified to ICE before they are released. After being detained by ICE, individuals may be placed in immigration detention and face deportation proceedings.
