Guwahati, May 10 (ANI): BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma met Assam Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya at Lok Bhawan in Guwahati on Sunday to stake claim to form the new government. Union Minister JP Nadda, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Assam BJP President Dilip Saikia, AGP President Atul Bora and other leaders of the National Democratic Alliance were also present. New Delhi: Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has been formally appointed as the Chief Minister of Assam by Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya under Article 164(1) of the Constitution, paving the way for the formation of the next BJP-led government in the state.According to an official notification issued by the Parliamentary Affairs Department of Assam, Sarma will take oath as chief minister on Tuesday, May 12, at 11.40 am at the Veterinary College Field in Khanapara, Guwahati.The notification read, “In exercise of the powers conferred under clause (1) of Article 164 of the Constitution of India, the Governor of Assam is pleased to appoint Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma as the Chief Minister of Assam.”The order was issued from Dispur on May 10 and was signed by Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota.The swearing-in ceremony is expected to formally inaugurate the new government in the northeastern state following the electoral success of the BJP-led alliance.Earlier in the day, Sarma had met the Governor and staked claim to form the next government.The official notification confirming his appointment was later circulated by the Department of Parliamentary Affairs.Sarma, one of the most prominent BJP leaders in the Northeast, is set to remain the chief minister after leading the party in the state.
