An 80-year-old woman from Cheshire, UK, has won £333,333 in the People’s Postcode Lottery after her husband secretly registered the ticket in her name as he believed it would bring her better luck.Nancy Barclay, from Crewe, received a six-figure payout as part of a £1million shared prize for her neighbourhood.Her husband Colin Barclay, 69, said he deliberately signed up using his wife’s details because he believed she was the lucky one in the family.He said, “I told him he was lucky. Looks like I was right.”The couple are now planning to leave their rented accommodation and finally buy their own house after living a modest life for years.“We can buy the bungalow we always wanted,” Nancy said.“We’re not showy people. We don’t drink and we’re happy with the simple things.”The retired factory worker described the win as life-changing and admitted he initially thought the prize money would be very small.“I never expected this much money,” he said.“I thought £1,000… anything over that was a bonus. It’s a big blooming bonus.”Nancy also thought of her late brother David Whitby, who was attacked during the great train robbery in 1963 by one of Britain’s most notorious criminal gangs, the BBC reports.He said the family tragedy has been a part of his life for decades and he wonders if his brother is somehow keeping an eye on him.“Everyone knew the names of the robbers but now people also remember my brother David,” he said.“And maybe he’s looking down on us today.”The grandmother-of-two previously worked as a cutter at Chester Barrie, a clothing manufacturer known for making suits worn by royals, footballers and Formula One celebrities.The couple, who recently returned to Crewe after retiring from Wales, said worsening health problems had brought them closer to relatives.Nancy was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago and later suffered serious complications after treatment.He said, “There was a time when I spent an entire month with difficulty in eating or drinking anything.”“I had to be hospitalized on a drip and intravenous antibiotics.”He said his health has now improved and the family now hopes to enjoy quieter pleasures, including lunch and short trips.
