Twisha Sharma death case: After 10 days on the run, husband reaches Jabalpur court to surrender

New Delhi: Samarth Singh, husband of Noida-based model-turned-actress Twisha Sharma, who was found dead in her matrimonial home in Bhopal, appeared in a Jabalpur court on Friday to surrender, his lawyer said.The development occurred about an hour after he withdrew his anticipatory bail plea filed before the Madhya Pradesh High Court.He withdrew the petition from the single bench of Justice Avnindra Kumar Singh. This left him no option but to surrender.The anticipatory bail plea was filed in the High Court on Thursday after his plea was rejected by the trial court last week.Singh’s mother, Giribala Singh – a retired district and sessions judge who currently heads the Bhopal consumer court – was granted anticipatory bail by a Bhopal court last week. His name is also included in the FIR registered in the case.Tvisha Sharma was found dead in her marital home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12. While her family accused her in-laws of dowry harassment and abetting her suicide, the Singh family alleged that she was a drug addict.Police registered an FIR against Samarth Singh and his mother under sections 80(2), 85 and 3(5) of the Indian Judicial Code as well as relevant provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act.The police had also announced a cash reward of Rs 30,000 for information leading to the arrest of Samarth Singh and had moved the court seeking cancellation of his passport.(With PTI inputs)
