‘Their issue is different’: Rubio on whether India is uncomfortable with Pakistan’s role in US-Iran conflict india news
New Delhi: US Secretary of State marco rubio India on Monday said it did not express concern over Pakistan’s alleged role as a mediator in the ongoing US-Iran conflict, although New Delhi is concerned about terrorist groups operating from Pakistani territory.Responding to a question in Delhi on whether the Indian side has expressed concern about Pakistan playing the role of mediator in the US-Iran conflict, Rubio said, “They are always concerned about that. India is always pointing out the fact that there are armed terrorist groups operating from Pakistani territory that target India. They are always concerned about that.”“But as far as his role as a mediator and facilitator of the Iran situation is concerned, it never came to the fore. I don’t think they will complain about it. I mean their issue with Pakistan is different.Rubio’s comments come amid ongoing diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran over the conflict, with multiple reports suggesting that Pakistan has played a facilitating role in backchannel communications between the two sides.India has consistently expressed concern over cross-border terrorism and the presence of terrorist groups operating from Pakistan. However, Rubio indicated that New Delhi’s concerns focused on security and terrorism-related issues rather than Islamabad’s diplomatic involvement in the Iran crisis.
