Uttar Pradesh electricity bill will increase by 10% due to fuel adjustment fee in June. india news
Electricity consumers in Uttar Pradesh will face an increase of about 10 per cent in their electricity bills from June after Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) imposed additional fuel surcharge under the fuel adjustment fee mechanism.According to the order issued by the power utility on May 29, the surcharge will be recovered in the upcoming billing cycle and will be reflected in the electricity bills issued from June. Consumers will have to pay additional charges in the form of fuel surcharge in addition to their regular electricity charges.Officials said the surcharge is being imposed by power distribution companies to compensate for increased fuel and power purchase costs. The fuel adjustment fee mechanism allows electric utilities to recover from consumers fluctuations in fuel expenses and power purchase costs. The decision comes at a time when many parts of Uttar Pradesh are witnessing complaints of power cuts and shortage of supply, especially during the peak summer season when power demand is high. The hike in electricity bills amid reports of power cuts is likely to be criticized by consumers and opposition parties.Under the revised billing structure, households, commercial establishments and other categories of consumers will see an increase in monthly electricity expenditure. The exact impact will vary depending on consumption levels and the applicable tariff category.Consumer groups have expressed concern over the additional burden, arguing that people are already struggling with rising costs of living. Many consumers have also questioned the timing of the increase, citing frequent complaints of disruption in power supply in several districts.Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation has defended the decision, saying the surcharge is being imposed as per regulatory provisions and is aimed at ensuring financial sustainability of power distribution operations.
