Madhya Pradesh extends summer holidays of teachers amid summer; Schools will reopen on June 16
The Madhya Pradesh government has extended the summer vacation for teachers by seven days as many districts are facing scorching heat. Schools across the state will reopen as per schedule on June 16, but teachers will now report for duty from June 7 instead of June 1. This decision was announced by the School Education Department of Madhya Pradesh. The department said the extension was given in view of the prevailing weather conditions and concerns over the health of teachers. Sharing the notification on its official X handle, the department said, “The state is currently experiencing extreme heat and heatwave conditions, with temperatures exceeding 45 degrees Celsius in many districts. Teachers are also doing work related to census and board exams during summer.” According to the department, temperatures are being recorded above 45 degrees Celsius in many parts of the state. Officials said the extension was necessary as teachers are also engaged in census-related duties and board exam work during the vacation period. As per the revised schedule, summer vacation for teachers will now continue from May 1 to June 7, 2026. Earlier, teachers were expected to return to schools on June 1. The state government said the decision was taken after considering both the heat wave and the workload being handled by teachers during summer vacations. However, schools will reopen for students on June 16.
