BJP team meeting at PM residence to finalize RS, MLC elections. india news

New Delhi: Ahead of the elections for 24 Rajya Sabha seats and MLC in some states, BJP’s Central Election Committee (CEC) held a meeting at PM Narendra Modi’s residence on Sunday to finalize the names of candidates. The CEC includes Union ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh and BJP president Nitin Nabin, and its meeting took place a day before the filing of nominations for the Rajya Sabha elections. Soon after the meeting, the BJP released its list of 10 candidates for the MLC elections on 16 seats in Maharashtra, a day before the deadline for filing nominations. It is rare for BJP CEC members to hold a physical meeting ahead of the RS or MLC elections, and there is a view that top party functionaries may also have deliberated on other important political matters, including the impending change in the national team of office-bearers of the organisation. The dispute between top officials of the state BJP and its two Maharashtra allies, Shiv Sena and NCP, over their share of MLC seats may also have prompted the BJP top officials to intervene. As the standoff continued, Army chief and deputy CM Eknath Shinde had raised the matter with Shah. The 24 Rajya Sabha seats are spread across Andhra Pradesh (4), Gujarat (4), Karnataka (4), Madhya Pradesh (3), Rajasthan (3), Jharkhand (2), and one seat each is vacant in the four northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya and Mizoram.
