Chennai: DMK Party spokesperson TKS Elangovan said on Thursday that it is no longer a part of the India Bloc. To respect their sentiments, DMK will not participate in the India Block meeting. Earlier, there were rumors that DMK may not be invited for the meeting in Delhi as it was uncertain whether it was still in the block or not. The move came after DMK’s Kanimozhi Karunanidhi wrote to Speaker Om Birla requesting a change in the seating arrangement in view of the changed political circumstances. New seats have not been allotted to DMK MPs yet.The Congress, which contested 28 seats and won five as part of the DMK-led alliance, extended support to the C Joseph Vijay-led government in return for two ministerial berths. DMK officials called this action a “backstabbing” and a “betrayal”. The alliance lost the election and TVK received support from Congress, VCK, IUML, CPI and CPM to win the trust vote with 108 seats. VCK and IUML have also joined the government with one minister each.
