India-Russia relations: ‘It is useless to try to put pressure on PM Modi’: Putin said India-US relations will have no impact on Russia relations, praised economic growth
Russian President Vladimir Putin India’s growing cooperation with the United States does not weaken its long-standing ties with Russia, it said on Thursday, adding that efforts to put pressure on New Delhi over its ties with Moscow will not succeed.Speaking to reporters in St Petersburg, Putin said the United States was trying to put pressure on India because of its engagement with Russia, but “it is useless to try to put pressure on Prime Minister Narendra Modi”, according to Reuters.Putin further said that Russia does not see any negative consequences from India’s bilateral relations with any other country and described India as a reliable partner.He underlined that India remains one of the leading economies of the world and is currently witnessing strong economic growth. “India is one of the world’s leading economies and is currently demonstrating impressive rates of economic growth,” Putin said.The Russian President also expressed confidence that bilateral trade between India and Russia will continue to expand significantly in the coming years.“I am confident that bilateral trade between Russia and India will reach $100 billion in the coming years,” he said.According to news agency PTI, he also said that India is a great nation and democracy that follows its national interests.
