The government on Friday urged Dhaka to speed up the verification process of suspected Bangladeshi illegal immigrants to facilitate their deportation to the country. The Ministry of External Affairs said that as far as deportation of these people is concerned, a bilateral mechanism exists for this. “We refer these cases to Bangladesh to verify the nationality of these people. And once it is verified, we proceed with the deportation process,” External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, citing several requests in the past from Bangladesh to speed up the verification process. “We hope that these will be expedited as soon as possible so that the deportation of people living in India illegally can proceed in a smooth and efficient manner,” the External Affairs Ministry spokesperson said. The official further said that for all citizens of India, including Bangladesh, there are laws in India to deal with those who are staying here illegally. “And they will be dealt with accordingly,” he said.
