India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak on Monday said he has not received confirmation on whether Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya have passed their fitness tests ahead of the ODI series against Afghanistan, but said he has heard that both players are performing well.Rohit and Hardik have been named in India’s squad for the three-match ODI series, subject to clearance from fitness testing at the Center of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. Hardik is recovering from back spasms, while Rohit suffered a hamstring injury during the IPL. Both players did not play many matches during the tournament.“To be honest, I haven’t received news whether they’ve been approved or not. But I’m sure they’ll be there.” From what I heard, they are fine, but they will have to go and undergo a fitness test or whatever the rules are,” Kotak said when asked about the fitness status of the duo.Kotak also outlined India’s preparations for the ODI series. He said the ODI team would assemble on Monday and Tuesday before a training session under lights on Wednesday. The team is scheduled to leave for Dharamshala on Thursday.Kotak said, “But the ODI players will be involved, they will be involved here and there can be light practice the day after tomorrow in the evening. So there can be a light practice session.”The update came after India completed their one-off Test against Afghanistan in Mullanpur in under three days.After declaring the first innings at 564/8, India bowled out Afghanistan for 152 and enforced follow-on. The visiting team was then bowled out for 112 runs in its second innings and India won by an innings and 300 runs, achieving its biggest win in Test cricket history.Debutant left-arm spinner Manav Suthar starred in Afghanistan’s first innings with figures of 6/33, while Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav shared seven wickets in the second innings.
